Don't get lax people. Inspect your equipment and supplies.
This is as much a warning to others as it is a reminder for myself. I keep my nic stored in the freezer broken out into 120ml bottles I picked up from an online supplier. I keep my working bottle out with my flavors in a bottle with a dropper top.
Inspect your bottles every time you go to use them. I went to mix like normal, grabbed my working bottle of nic, and started shaking the hell out of it. Well, it seems last time I used it, when I put the dropper top back on, the plastic cap split down the side. As I started to shake, my nic started flying everywhere. All over my hands, arms, and desk.
I got it washed off, and so far am no worse for the wear. This could have been a much worse situation, and could have been prevented by a simple 2 second inspection.
Total losses: about 10 ml of 100mg/ml still in the bottle that I tossed, a bit of pride, and the knowledge that the wife now has one more thing to give me shit about.
Since I never mix over 12mg/ml, I keep my nic diluted to 18mg/ml -- less oxidation risk and much safer in general.
Checking those wide mouth dropper caps is major! I use packer bottles for dispensing with pipettes and I've crached lids before.
I do the same thing (although I dilute to 36mg/ml mostly because I'm lazy about having to mix up another batch to mix from.) I keep my "working" nic in a 60ml bottle, and even if I end up spilling it most of what I've lost is just VG. The 100mg/ml bottle only comes out of the freezer once every month or two to mix up another working batch, so that stays fresh a lot longer too.
Yep, works so much better for me and my math is easier, too. Lately I've been diluting to 6mg/ml batches because most of my pals and customers aren't even vaping 12mg/ml anymore. If I can get everyone down to 3mg/ml, I can dilute to 4.5mg/ml and really make things easy.
I vape 6mg, but I stick with 36mg/ml for my dilution just because it's a good enough amount to keep me mixing for a few weeks, but still low enough to not worry about spilling some (yet to happen, but I'm clumsy.)
I have made a lower-nic dilution before, but I'm so used to using 36mg/ml at this point that I kept screwing up my juice. I'd forget that I was using a different concentration, and thus forgot to change it in the juice calculator.
I screwed my cap on way too tight once and broke it. I covered it with a ton of tin foil to ensure no air or light gets through. Even put a paper towel on top with a rubber band around it.
Even so obviously a little nic is going to get on the foil when I shake it up. Made the mistake of getting a little on my hand, not properly washing it, then rubbing my nose.
Took me a second, but I realized why my nose was getting increasingly warmer and warmer. Immediately washed it out after realizing it was the nicotine lol.
I think it's time for a new bottle
I hear ya... Today my roommate went to the gym after he mixed some stuff and I told him to leave the pipettes he used out since I was about to mix... He forgot to tell me which one was which and I wasn't aware he used nicotine so I ended up putting a drop of 100mg on my tongue which instantly turned my entire tongue numb. WONT do that again.
