So yeah, I am in a vaping slump.
It's not that my mixes are bad, they're all great, but I don't particularly like any of them, if that makes sense?
I don't know what flavour profile I want. I mix one up, vape it, and go "eh, not really." then move on to try something else.
I used to vape a bunch of different flavours, now I tend to just mix up 120ml each week and vape that same flavour, but it's not exciting anymore. It's just something I do.
What do you do when you get into a vaping slump? Do you buy juices to try something new? Do you buy more flavours and experiment more?
I am quite simply bored of mixing, but I enjoy it at the same time. I am a paradoxical enigma of clouds and flavours.
Can relate 100%. I will make 15ml of something, decide that I love it, then make 120ml of it and realize I don't really love it as I thought.
Weird, I'm in exactly the same mood right now. I keep buying concentrates hoping to find that holy grail of mixes to keep me hooked but keep failing. The last mix I couldn't get enough of was Wayne's oatmeal cookie and then vapers tongue kicked in to ruin it for me.
Imo , you get to a point where the whole vaping thing becomes much less exciting then it used to be .
It takes awhile though but do something over and over for long periods of time it's going to happen , just human nature.
We like excitement day in day out and unfortunately life rarely offers that , your just going through the motions .
I believe taking a break and not thinking about it for awhile can give you a fresh perspective .
Solid advice for anything really.
I sometimes take a couple of days away from what I'm developing at the time and just vape something simple like
- 2% TFA Dragonfruit
- 0.5% INW Dragonfruit
- 0.5% INW Raspberry
Super simple, tastes like a gentle raspberry and dragonfruit flavour. It tastes alright but after a couple of days I'll be able to see things in the juice I was developing that I'd missed because I was too close to see it.
I'm in the same boat. Even stuff I used to like it's just meh now. It's weird cause I had no problem smoking the same brand cigarettes for ten years lol
Haha, well cigarettes are cigarettes, no exciting new flavours. I guess we're spoiled by the literal millions of flavours we can have, but can't find that unicorn.
Exactly mate. Marlboro Lights always tasted the same, every time. Reds weren't that much different.
I say try something unusual. Mint, or chocolate, anything you wouldn't normally think of.
You could start with 3% TFA Blackberry as the base and work from there. If you can tame TFA Blackberry at that %, I would think the final product would be delightful.
I also concocted this recipe that really clears up my vape tongue or whatever they call it. And no, I wouldn't attempt to sub out CAP Horchata with TFA version.
Otherwise, if I get bored with my mixes, I have a couple friends who really like to blow their money on "premium" juice and end up not liking some of them. So, I offer them a trade, which ends up with me trying something I would never make, but hey, it's something different for my palette.
I haven't tried TFA Blackberry yet, but I just put it in my cart.
Also, that recipe sounds incredibly intense, and I will try it.
I've found TFA blackberry to be unbearably strong, overpowers mixes at 1-2 drops, such a good flavor though, can't wait to find something it works with.
It's crazy to read everybody saying tfa blackberry at 3% is crazy, I make something my girlfriend calls "HeavenBerry Pie" it's 3%Tfa blackberry, 1%Cap Strawberry, 1%Tfa Blueberry, 1%Tfa cranberry, .5% Cap Dragonfruit and I don't know the percent of Bavarian Cream but like... Say maybe 1 drop per five or ten mls? I play around with the Bavarian cream each time I've made it. Can't quite hit the right spot with it.
Edit: I'm wrong, the other berry flavored are more like 3% as well. I'm bad at math. Also drunk. Sorry. I also use 5%Blackberry instead. That's what I get for not writing it down and doing the math in my head. My girlfriend corrected me.
If you haven't yet, try changing up your flavor profile. For a long time my flavor profile was a lot of menthol and fruit. To break it up, I switched to dessert flavors. Now I'm in a slump with 480+ml of cream and custard juice that I almost feel like I'm forcing myself through sometimes. It's a cycle.
Yeah I'm normally more of a dessert guy, currently vaping a Dragonfruit/Strawberry/Cream thing, it's not bad but yeah.
Tried some bright fruits the past few weeks, and while they've been good, they just haven't been hitting the spot. The last juice which really did it for me is Placid by ADK, but I'm in Australia and had a lot of issues getting it shipped here (customs refused two packages)
I've tried cloning it, but I have no idea where to start. So far, I've got:
TFA Strawberry 5%
TFA Honeysuckle 0.5%
FA Lime Tahity 1%
TFA Apple 1%
TFA Pear 2%
1 drop of malic acid/10mls
Have you tried Fizz's clone?
Ingredient|% :---|---: Honeysuckle (TPA)|4 Lime Tahity (Cold Pressed) (FA)|1 Pear (TPA)|4 Strawberry (TPA)|4
Flavor total: 13%
I add a drop of Quince/Dragonfruit per 10ml. It scratches the itch for me. I still have a bottle of Placid and fill up a tank occasionally. The difference between them is hardly noticeable IMO.
Do you have any good fruit menthol recipes? The ones I've made have been underwhelming :(
Bear in mind that taste is subjective. I enjoy this, but many people I've let try this have not.
7% TFA blueberry 5% TFA watermelon 3% TFA strawberry. PG based Menthol to taste. I usually do 2-3 drops per 30ml. Sweetener optional.
Edit: If this doesn't work out for you, maybe try picking up Hawk Sauce or Thug juice concentrates from MBV. Still some of my favorite menthols.
I have found for me straight fruit flavors for a short time will bring back the interest in multiple flavor juices. I just mix up some strawberry or apple juice without all the added stuff and that usually fixes the problem. Sometimes just taking a break with some straight fruit flavors will give me a new lease on life.
We all need a vacation once in a while and for me doing the fruit flavors accomplish's that for me.
Seasonal shift. Days are getting longer so boredom sets in. Happens every year around this time, not just with DIY.
Set your alarm clock an hour early tomorrow. It makes a difference.
Days have been long here since September :P I'm Australian.
Already getting up at 6:30AM, I need that sleep haha.
That does make sense though.
Whenever I start getting to that point I start messing around with completely different flavor profiles than what I'm normally accustomed to. We all love Reddit and ELR, but let's face it...many of the recipes are just riffs on another recipe. Very few things are new, so try to find something that is different than what everyone else is fucking with.
Dabble with some Citrus, mess with some florals. Mix Grapefruit with Zen Garden. Mix Oba Oba with Nangka, etc.
I also sometimes find myself going back to tasty 1 and 2 flavor mixes from time to time. I really love FW Ecto Cooler. I really love Peach/Pineapple. I don't always need decahedralrhodonitechurrocreamynipplescotch all the time. Sometimes simple is better!
Whenever I'm in a slump I tend to revisit my flavors that have been neglected. Sometimes this will lead to new pairings that I enjoy but, equally often, it leads to pairings that I know to avoid in the future. For inspiration, a little research on flavor charts/flavor pairings might be beneficial. [This] (http://nouveauraw.com/raw-recipe-templates-and-development/flavor-prfiles-that-pair-well-in-recipes/) has helped me in the past.
I hit this sometimes. To curb this somewhat I mix exclusively in 15-30ml amounts weekly so that I'm never vaping the same stuff all the time. In addition I set aside around 4 15ml bottles each weekend to do something like that cooking show chopped. I toss 10-15 flavors in a box then blindly pick out 3 to try to make something new with. It's lead to some pretty fun results, if nothing else it helps keep things fresh.
Dude that is a good idea. I'm so doing that.
It helps me make it fun. Sometimes after awhile it feels like more work and less fun. It helps me with finding ideas that sometimes just don't come after staring at a wall of flavors and just drawing a blank.
Some of my favorite vapes have started this way. Every once in awhile I'll run into a combo that I just can't bear the idea of, but most times I can come up with something fun, and tasty.
I hadn't created something new I a long while. Then my buddy came over we had a few drinks and randomly made juices. It was fun and both juices came out pretty good, ya they might need some final tweaking but I'm enjoying them so far. Maybe you guys could try that too? With a local fellow tit chucking friend I mean (:
Maybe try a good fruit mix like Wayne's Misty? It has been my ADV for a couple of months now.
Care to share the recipe?

I don't think it needs suclarose. Also, I've had good results with FLV Blueberry instead of Boysenberry. If you can though, I recommend making it exact.
Edit...WTF typo
I feel for ya. Im in a slump and only been doing this for like 2 weeks lol. Just cant seem to make ANYTHING I like. Its all perfectly vapable, nothing to pour down the sink or anything, but.. its just not tasty.
more of a general response here... but sounds like you need a break or a change in perception. This has happened with every hobby I ever got into. It's pretty natural to want to seek out new stimuli. I think too much obsession over a thing can lead us to feel less excited about it once we come down from that initial high or some of the illusions have been revealed. But I'd be a much less interesting person if I stuck to one just thing and somehow maintained that same level of passion in a single lane forever. Not a big deal. There are plenty of things to be passionate and excited about out there. Mixing is sometimes really fun for me and sometimes it feels like a chore. I think it's easier to not put things like this on a pedestal or expect too much from yourself. Just do stuff and maybe reflect less on whether you're "really into it" or not and appreciate those rare moments when your actions align perfectly with your will and you are genuinely psyched about whatever it is you're engaged in. If I was a doctor I would prescribe you with equanimity towards all your passions and a mega dose of "allow yourself to discover something new".
Here's my suggestion, either buy a premium juice unlike anything you've made on your own, use it til it's gone, then after its gone go back to your DIY flavors and maybe your tastebuds will be impacted by the flavor since you haven't had it in awhile! Either that, or try making something wacky
Start mixing it up (no pun intended), use different flavors like cucumber and avacado to challenge yourself.
There's an avocado flavour?
I'm not entirely sure.... I think I missworded that a bit, I meant try to make an avacado flavor by mixing others. I did a little research and all I found was oil concentrates. Which would not be good.
This is happening to me right now. I've been thinking and buying a few juices from companies I haven't tried yet that I know aren't full of sugar. I want to see if it can help get my creativity going again. Partially inspired to try Placid by Adirondack because of the way I hear that they use pear. I love pear but want to see how they are treating it and maybe Ill get some ideas there on how and what I want to do with pear.
Pear is tricky, it's a very subtle but overpowering flavour. It doesn't take much to totally ruin a recipe, but when it's used well it's damn tasty.
Placid is freaking amazing, it's sweet, tart, sour and juicy all at the same time, with a great flavour. It's a strong strawberry and lime inhale with a hint of honeysuckle and pear on the exhale. Some people just plain hate it though. I love it and it's crack. I went through 30ml in literally 8 hours.
Buy a lot, let half of it steep for 3 months if you can. It just gets better.
Im wondering how strong the strawberry is. I cant make strawberry an ADV for me but its nice once in awhile. For the most part I dont really like strawberry though.
Pear and Apple work together really well. I think Pear and Berries work well together as anytime I see anything that is berry related like a Berry Lemonade, pear juice is in the ingrediants somewhere so they must have some kind of working connection
I feel ya there. One thing that helped me out of a recent slump was finding a flavoring that really interested me, was new to me, and testing it out in all sorts of different ways to see what would work. Made it fun again. Another thing that helped was a random flavor challenge lol, I don't necessarily recommend it though. I put all my flavorings in to a randomizer and picked the top 5 to see if I could make something yummy with them.
