Okay, after learning so much from you guys, it's time to give back. I present to you... Avocado Custard!
submitted over 9 years ago by thedirtyprojectorOne of "The Damned"

Now I know what you're thinking... Avocado and custard? Yes, avocado and custard. Before you call me a troll and click on the 'Report' button, just hear me out. Initially, I thought it was bizarre, too. How could something that goes into a savoury dip like guacamole taste good in an ejuice?

Well that all changed the minute I tried one at my local B&M. Yes, someone was crazy enough to mix up an avocado ejuice. And that shit was fucking amazing. Creamy, milk, custardy. It has everything you love in a custard, topped up with the rich smooth consistency of avocado. I still can't put my finger on the taste... If you've ever had sliced avocado or an avocado smoothie, it kind of leaves a pleasant and silky after-taste on the mouth.

Anyway, after weeks of trail and error, along with a few wasted $$$, I believe I have come up with a delicious and simple avocado custard that can be built upon and improved.

Without further ado, here is...

Bravocado Custard

  • Duomei Avocado - 5%

  • TFA Vanilla Custard - 3%

  • TFA Bavarian Cream - 2%

  • TFA Sweet Cream - 2%

  • TFA Vanilla Swirl - 2%

  • TFA Marshmallow - 2%

  • TFA Cotton Candy - 1%

THE AVOCADO

The Avocado I have comes from Duo Mei, a popular flavor manufacturer in China. They ship internationally, and you can order it here

This flavor is vital because it's the foundation of the recipe. I used 5% because Avocado has an innately mild taste to it. Keeping it at 5 brings out the rich and milky taste that we want. There's even a very faint hint of sweetness.

THE CREAMS

Vanilla custard, bavarian cream, sweet cream and vanilla swirl is one of the many "creamstone" recipes I use. I opted for a lower percentage because I wanted the avocado to shine. The custards merely act as a background note to accentuate the star, which is the avocado.

THE ENHANCERS

Cotton candy and marshmallow are a given. I use them to help smooth the juice out and give a hint of sweetness.

THE VERDICT

This recipe is delicious and it's a certified shake and vape. I made 10ml and I finished it all up. I've gotta make a 30ml bottle and let the creams come out to play.

You can build upon this recipe and make many other things. The results are truly endless. For my juice line, I'm planning to whip up an Avocado smoothie with banana and strawberry.

But you do you and see what you can come up with! Enjoy!

Interesting!

I use avocados to make cheesecakes and protein shakes -- it's a neutral fatty flavor. Never realized someone sells an avocado flavoring, that's awesome!

Agreed... There's a place in Austin that sells an avocado blended margarita. Picks up other flavors nicely, and consistency of a milkshake

My vietnamese friend introduced me to sinh to bo, a vietnamese avocado smoothie... Shit's too good, seriously. I add a few mint leaves to it personally.

I don't drink alcohol usually but on my last cruise I tried an avocado-based sangria! It had very little avocado in it, but the texture was really really creamy.

What place??? My wife and I would love to try that!

Curra's on Oltorf. It has a fairly low alcohol content and is quite filling, try it as a dessert! Also if you haven't been their food is great-interior Mexican as opposed to tex-mex.

Dude, that's the word I'm looking for! You're right. It has this rich fatty aftertaste.

There's just so much potential with this flavor. It works really well on its own but now that you mention it, I could see it working in cheesecakes and malted type drinks, too.

What was the minimum size you were able to acquire from Duomei?

I contacted them through http://www.duomeiflavor.cn/

E-flavors are here

What does this avocado flavoring taste like? Avocado is such a texture heavy flavor and I don't really taste anything when I eat it except for that neutral fat /u/abdada talked about. Are there any interesting characteristics that you taste in this ingredient?

edit: also that company sells a Red Bean flavoring...I may have to make an order

I'm emailing with them about getting some samples to the States. They also do custom flavors, maybe I can finally make that buttered green bean!

> buttered green bean

That made me salivate. I have been thinking more and more about some savory vapes. Like salty carrots + ginger. Cranberry stuffing. Brussels sprouts with a splash of basalmic.

If Jones can sell a turkey soda there's no reason we can't do a turkey vape. Not saying it wouldn't suck, but this is 'Muricah, and if anyone's going to introduce a turkey vape it's going to be us. Or the Chinese - those dudes are crazy.

I've been trying to come up with a butter green bean flavor for almost 18 months now and nothing works.

I think the problem is the lack of "fatty" and the lack of "salty".

When someone actually creates a salty "aroma" for eliquids, they're going to crush it.

As someone who loves Avocado so much they struggle to make them "work" outside of normal seasonal availability (I have ripening techniques that vary between spring/summer/fall/winter, with wildly oscillating results - I do the same thing with tomatoes with decidedly sad but serviceable outcomes.) I can vouch for a spring-green, grassy, buttery flavor too.

I need avocados in my carb-free eggs Benedict recipe, like, year-round. It's the only thing that keeps me from lusting after english muffins. I love breads. So much so that I want to come up with a buttered toast vape.

I pick up the neutral fatty taste that /u/abdada describes followed by a mild dewey sweetness, almost like Capella Honeydew Melon. The only way I can use to describe the texture is creamy, it's a real type of creamy, not the bavarian cream or fresh cream you are accustomed to. If you have ever eaten avocado, it has that silky aspect. Almost gummy, but not quite. Almost buttery, but not quite that too.

Oh and Wayne, PM me. You have done a lot for this community. I'd be more than happy to ship a 30ml or 50ml bottle your way. Cheers.

that was a fucking perfect flavor description. I think I may have to take you up on that offer!

I've made avocado jell-o before, it's pretty fantastic.

Well, I would certainly have never thought of this...

When I start mixing, I'm going to come looking for this recipe!

by NeedsNewPantsover 9 years ago

As soon as I start mixing I'll do it too. I love putting some milk, sugar and avocado into a blender. It tastes like pistachio. Add some vanilla extract and it is a creamy sweet milkshake that will keep you full for hours. Brazilians do something similar with condensed milk.

Oh man, condensed milk and avocado sounds awesome. Unfortunately, it's hard to nail the condensed milk flavor.

/u/thedirtyprojector Wow, just wanted to let you know I tried this recipe. Damn it's good. I never would of thought of making an avocado juice until I saw your recipe. I did add 2% strawberry ripe, it's day 3 now and the custard is starting to come out. It's such a fatty vape, I love it.

by noodles1972over 9 years ago

Hmm interesting. Have you tried any of their other flavours. I'm based in China so i think i'm going to put an order in for a few to give them a try. I'm assuming you didn't follow their min. order quantity and order 50 Kg of avocado

2 points

by thedirtyprojectorover 9 years agoOne of "The Damned"

I tried Pandan which was decent. Red bean is okay too. Green tea is better than TFA's green tea which is too harsh and floral for me. Their macha is sort of like the powder they use to make green tea milk tea.

It sounds vile, but congratulations on making something different.

Minimum order: 50 kilograms

Anyone have another source for this? Or do they not enforce that minimum. I mean, I don't even want 1 kg.

This is interesting as I love anything to do with avocado. Someone call me when you nail a honey mustard pretzel vape and I'll give you all the monies.

Looks interesting and glad to see people are testing out some of these weirdo flavors :) Their avocado flavor stuck me as having more of a pear flavor than anything that resembled an actual avocado. Avocados most definitely have a 'flavor'. Anyone who has ever pan fried or deep fried an avocado will immediately recognize it... not sure that this flavor had it for me but it's not a bad one.

Did you get powder or liquid? 50kg of powder would make like 50000kg of concentrate, at least.

I've never done DIY. I'd rather buy from an experienced mixer.
