Some notes on a few of my favorite flavors.
submitted over 9 years ago by [deleted]

I saw the post /u/enyawreklaw made earlier about how this sub needs more flavor notes, so I thought I'd post some notes for some of my favorite flavors. These are in no particular order. I'm trying to post uncommon(ish) flavors to help widen the spectrum of flavors for people. Believe it or not, even flavors you think you know well, there are still likely more uses for it that you haven't discovered.

  • Blackberry TFA- For starters this is a very potent flavor, in fact I ended up ruining my first few tries at a mixed berries and cream by using too much of this. This is by far my favorite berry in the right circumstance. I love the sweet high notes that I get from this, and if there's any flavor that makes me say that I don't necessarily mind floral notes, its blackberry. TFA really knocked this one out, it's a killer flavor in my MKB and I only add 1 drop/20ml. In my opinion, capella and flavour art did a shitty job on this flavor, they're completely floral and tastes like perfume. I'd suggest this being used at 1.5% tops for a main note, 1% for a mid main note, or .5% for a light background note. I have tried it at 2% and it was alright but still not the greatest. In .y opinion this is an incomplete flavor per say, as it's only really decent when used with another berry to balance it like blueberry, or even better strawberry. I have a darkness scale of berries in my mind and this is the darkest next to black currant, and it does an amazing job at darkening strawberries.

  • Blackcurrant FA- I didn't like this flavor in all the other brands I've tried including, INW, FE, and FW. I was really hoping FE would do a job considering their amazing lemon. I gave up on this flavor, and I didn't even know the true taste of a blackcurrant, and than I found flavour art's. Also I realized I did have something very similar, Forest Fruit Mix FA. I'd start using this at 1%, maybe even .5%. I've ruined so many flavors with over use of this one, not that it's bad because it's absolutely delicious, but not when when you want a black custard like I'm working on now.

  • FW Blueberry- After searching for the best blueberry flavor, and in the process realizing that blueberry actually isn't my favorite berry at all, I finally found the godsend of all blueberry flavors. This is one of flavor wests gems, and I don't think anyone else does it any better, although when mixed with FA bilberry it's even better. This is really more of a bakery flavor in general, just like any blueberry, but it can work well in fruit/candy mixes I suppose. It's pretty potent for a FW flavor, start with 2.5-3%, although 7% FW Blueberry with .7% bilberry FA, and .5% Forest Mix FA makes an amazing berry base for custards.

  • Marshmallow CaP/FA- This is my favorite marshmallow hands down. It has a nice authentic sweet marshmallow flavor to it. Adds a pretty good amount of body, but is amazing in conjunction to Marshmallow FA, which has more depth and body. The mixture of the two with about 1.5% each makes a nice velvety marshmallow note in the background depending on the mix.

  • Kiwi FA- This is one of my favorite flavors in general. I haven't been able to get it to fit into any bakery flavors besides a marshmallow mix I call MKB, but I still love this in fruit mixes. It has some stellar high notes to it that are some what natural and fleshy, but also a little candy like. The taste is different depending on the mix. When making a simple strawberry kiwi, it works awesome at 3% with 8% Strawberry TFA (or a half and half mixture with ripe), along with .2% Fuji FA. The Fuji brings out some tartness from both the strawberry, and the kiwi.

  • Fuji FA- To be honest, I don't even really like apple, but this is so much more than just apple. Fuji is the tartness in a flavor you didn't even know had apple in it. It works well as a main note, or a background note. My favorite use of this is in with my cereal base at 3% with 1% Cinnamon Danish Swirl CaP, .5% Cinnamon Crunch FLV, and .01% Rich Cinnamon FLV.

  • Strawberry MF- I first bought this when /u/notcharlesmanson told me that he replaced Shisha Strawberry with this flavor. I diluted my medicine flower flavors to 10% with PG right off the bat when I received them, so when I mention a percentage, it's the diluted version. If anyone is wanting to do this, ECX sells 5ml MF flavors for 10$, which beats paying double for 3 times as more when you could potentially not like the flavor. Simply take 9ml PG, and 1ml MF flavor to make a 10ml mixture. I use this at nor more than 1%. I've been told by numerous people that you do not want to use the actual flavor over .1%, which says a hell of a lot about this flavor. I like to throw in .2-.6% of my dilution to take any edginess off of other strawberry flavors. Try adding more of this and less of another, or use in conjunction with Shisha Strawberry INW, and Strawberry Ripe TFA for a natural strawberry flavor.

  • Lemon FE- This one is mainly an additive for me unless I'm making a citrus vape for my girlfriend. I add this to just about everything with a berry in it, and it helps the flavor immensely. Just add 1 drop for every 20ml for a nice boost in brightness to any berry. It also works as a fruit mix lemon flavor, using a few drops of it to brighten up a strawberry custard is one thing, but I don't think it would work well as a lemon bakery flavor.

  • Torrone FA- This is one of the best flavors I have come across. I have never used it as a main note, and I don't plan on doing so either. It's a nougat flavor that can vary in taste a lot. I love using Torrone with meringue FA to add a powdery sugar flavor to some thing like /u/enyawreklaw did to rhodonite, which is where I learned of this flavor. It works awesome in cereal flavors to add nice touch to any bakery flavor. I haven't gone over .35% with this one. I would avoid going over .5%, and if you don't feel free to let us know what it's like in higher amounts

I will update this from time to time and add more notes.

Thanks especially for the note about FA Kiwi. This may be the kiwi I am looking for!

Also try MF Kiwi if you're looking for an all out authentic Kiwi. It's way too authentic for me, but in small amounts it can change the flavor of you main Kiwi. I used to be a Kiwi fanatic, sadly I got sick of it.

It's my favorite Kiwi by far. If you're a kiwi fan you won't regret buying it.

Nice!

That Marshmallow Cap/FA sounds solid. Me try it.

Ever make 10% dilutions with FA?

Honey FA is the only FA flavor I've diluted. I'm normally fine using .5% ETC, if I had to use 5% instead it would mess up my total percentages and confuse me. I like to stay below 20%ish.

I just picked up bilberry the other day. I've only mixed a test batch so far. I love forest fruit mix. Now I've got to pick this up and give it a try.

TFA Strawberry and FA Kiwi is a godsend combo. Unfortunately, my lungs don't like TFA Strawberry, so I can't vape it :P

What difference does this have when compared to TFA? Seems like it does the same exact thing.

They are all very similar, but I've noticed differences in potencies when comparing FA, and TFA, and like I said, capella's has more authentic sweetness. You can not only get a deeper flavor from FA with less, when comparing it to TFA. As with any flavor when you go over a certain threshold it tends to taste off, which I'm sure that happens with TFA a lot sooner than FA.

Great notes, thanks!

Torrone is one hell of a flavor, at <.5% you can taste the nougaty goodness, past that a citrus note comes out like a real Italian torrone. Orange rind flavor, slight hint of lemon if you go above 1.5%. 2% is my max, although much more versatile in lower amounts.

I have forest mix but Ive never found a use for it. Also FA Bilberry is a key component imo to any blueberry. A must have flavor

I absolutely agree on the Bilberry. Blueberry is my personal fave fruit, and since I started mixing I've been on the hunt for the "perfect" blueberry vape. I picked up Bilberry about a month ago on a lark, dear god so tasty.

It adds a dark berry flavour to the foundation of the blueberry flavor and, at least to me, a tartness on the exhale. If you feel like your blueberry mix is shallow, add 1% Bilberry.

You could try HICs "blue" 3% citrus punch 2% fa raspberry and 1% forest fruits. I'm Mixing a batch as soon as my citrus punch arrives.

MF Strawberry isn't that concentrated, I've used it fine 0.50% undiluted.

Hmm really? Kiwi custard? What's the recipe? Not sure if that sounds good or gross. But yeah I had a marshmallow phase and I just had to try them all, besides flavor west lol

8% vc, 3% marshmallow and 1% kiwi with a few drops of smooth...its a clone of starship that i found somewhere, not my fav profile but few of my friends are into this and they say this is the most natural tasting kiwi desert that they have had...fw vc is a weird one but it just works in this i guess...gotta steep for a month tho i am loving fa kiwi mixed with baker flavors fresh strawberry..i go about 2-3 % kiwi depending on the cream base i add

Baker's fresh? I'll look into this even though I still have tons of strawberries to experiment with.

I've tried torrone at 1.5% with this recipe from HIC

Torrone Parfait

2.25% FA Lemon Sicily

1.5% FA Torrone

1.5% FA Custard (FA Vienna Cream will do in a pinch, but adds vanilla flavor)

0.75% FA Meringue

Maybe I just don't like Torrone but it's such a powerful flavor that's all you could taste. It never calmed down either. Two weeks after I made it I tried it again and all I could taste was FA Torrone. When you go that high all you get is some almond and chemical taffy flavor that is very floral. Very unique and hard to describe but it's off putting. I don't get any powdered sugar notes from Torrone that high. That recipe is terrible and it must be just a funny joke HIC played on people to release something like that.

TLDR: FA Torrone at 1.5% makes you wish you wish your mother didn't give birth to you and tastes like Satan's asshole.

Great notes, I adore FW Blueberry & TFA Blackberry (love TFA Blackberry mixed with TFA Key Lime). I've only had my FA Kiwi for a week (finally ordered it reluctantly after being disappointed by all the other kiwi flavors) but that is long enough to know it's a showstopper. Thanks for posting this, these will be very useful.

I wanna try that, I need key lime. It's probably one of the most popular limes. All I have is all the FA and FLV limes, so their all super potent, which isn't bad, I just want a chill lime if there's such thing. I'm glad my knowledge can be of use to some people. :)

When I use TFA Key Lime I back it up with FA Lime Tahity (Cold Pressed) at about .2 - .5 (depending on percentages of Key Lime) it gives it some much needed backbone so it doesn't come off flat in a fruit mix. I think it really is a key component when mixing TFA Key Lime and TFA Blackberry because otherwise they can end up fighting each other in the mix. All this plus a few drops of koolada is just the perfect summertime vape.

Sounds awesome I'll be trying this . I had a bad experience with koolada, but maybe I should give it another chance. I always wondered the possibility of making a milkshake taste cold with koolada.

I wish I had read your notes on TFA Blackberry before making a blackberry/blueberry cheesecake recipe last night. I concocted 3 different 15 mL recipes in which I mixed the TFA Blackberry at 3.5%, 3%, and 2.5% just as trials for bigger batches. Every single one was very potent as a shake and vape, made me pucker, and tasted like really shitty candy. I decided to give them a week or 2, I will probably still vape them, but definitely back the % down next time per my own experience. I want to note that 2% CAP Marshmallow toned down the tart Blackberry taste on one recipe quite a bit. I will post more notes as my mixes steep or the recipe becomes more refined.

EDIT: If you don't mind, what percentages do you generally use CAP Marshmallow? I try to keep it low (usually under 2%, no more than 4%) just because the liquid is extremely dark compared to most of my other flavorings, which can have a tendency to gunk up coils and/or just turn people off from it.
