Flavor of the Week: MELON
submitted over 9 years ago by Helfrd0771Valued Community Coordinator

The purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and it's many uses.

We're not just looking for you to post recipes you have containing the flavor of the week, but looking for you to share your process as you develop a new juice using the flavor of the week.

This should help us all to better understand how certain flavors interact, and give us all a launching point to perhaps discovering new wonderful recipes. Please post new recipes created using this flavor as well as any and all tasting notes as main posts. Thought process is encouraged also.

This thread will NOT be in contest mode so the best flavors and reviews of those should move their way towards the top.

While I definitely encourage you to branch out with this flavor and use some more rare flavors, I would encourage everyone to keep it in mind that others will not be able to try your recipe and comment or offer assistance if they do not have the flavors you are using. I would also encourage you to use this week's flavor as the "main" flavor in your recipe although this is not required.

You BETTER sample and offer tasting notes on your recipe. Good luck to everyone!

This Week's Flavor is: MELON

Please note: This includes all melon flavors. Examples : Honeydew, Cantaloupe, Watermelon, and the likes

Unlike in the previous monthly contest thread, I am NOT limiting this to any specific flavor from any specific vendor. After all, our goal here is to come up with perhaps some unique uses of the weekly flavor or combinations others may not have thought of before. This should allow for maximum participation as well!

I am really happy with this one :)

sticky juices I named it this because its got all these juicy sticky fruits in it and it even feels sticky and sweet when you vape it.

2% FLV Wild melon -------- this one is a great melon medley, no doubt

8% FW Mango (Natural). This new Mango flavor from FW is extra dank btw

1% FA White peach ---------'nuff said

1% FA Summer Clouds --------- a fruit mix that has some melon undertones

3% Cap Golden Pineapple ------- IS this a melon? Its like the aardvark or porcupine equivalent of a melon, all armored and pointy

1.5% FW Gummi Candy (really lends the stickyness)

0.5% EM

Sucralose to taste

I'm not well versed in melon flavors, but I do know that mango and melons can give off a putrid, rotten flavor if used at high percentages, reminiscent of a durian fruit.

Do you not get any of that flavor with this recipe?

by abdadaover 9 years agoI will rip you a new one if you don't use the sidebar & search.

Oh man the durian fruit! They discovered some previously only lab-made volatiles when analyzing its aroma composition.

And after a little research, ie. Google, i found that some sick bastard thought vaping it would be a good idea.

lol. Sir I would not share any recipe that gave a putrid taste when vaped.

by Vurveover 9 years agoMixologist

Fair enough 😊

Some people just seem to perceive the flavorings in these melons juices differently. I love eating real melons, but can't stand to vape melon as anything other than an accent (watermelon excluded). Just get a strong rottenly sweet flavor. Meanwhile, I know people that love their melon and mango vape juices.

you're extra dankk

My personal spin on the monster melons clone by cuttwood.

The original calls for 5% of mango cantaloupe and papaya.

My preferred recipe is:

  • Papaya(TFA) 7%
  • Mango (TFA) 5%
  • Cantaloupe (TFA) 5%
  • Fresh Cream (FA) 2%

Papaya

I love papaya and after testing I found that at 7% it was definitely the main note but still fit in nicely with the other fruits.

Mango and Cantaloupe

At 5% it is more of a background note but it is still prevalent enough to combine well with the Cantaloupe and cream to form a good solid background.

Fresh Cream

At 2% it is very subtle but it still is enough to give it a creamy taste as well as adding a little bit of sweetness to it also.

Two recipes, both watermelon

Strawmelon

  • TFA Strawberry 7%
  • TFA Watermelon 5%

one of the first mixes i made, almost 2 years ago. surprisingly (becauses its a 2 flavor fruit mix), it actually improves a lot after a week of steeping. Freshly made, the watermelon is very "Rind"y and after some steeping its much smoother. The more experienced mixer in my thinks that 0.5% TFA Dragonfruit would aid this mix, but i haven't tried it.

Strawmelon V3

  • CAP Sweet Watermelon 3%
  • TFA Strawberry 4%
  • TFA Strawberry (Ripe) 3%

This is a much more "candy" type mix, CAP Sweet Watermelon is a really potent but delicious flavor. Its like a candy watermelon with no sour.

I'm defiantly gonna have to try this one (mostly because I actually have these flavors)

Upvoting for creative naming of juices. Jokes aside, I have tried various versions of strawmelon waterberry and can't for the life of me get watermelon as a main. Any luck with that?

by Eizoozover 9 years agoOne of "The Damned"

If you push CAP Sweet Watermelon to 4.5% I and drop the strawberries to match, i bet the watermelon would be very dominant.

This one is my ADV! I called it Arthur Denny, named after one of Seattle's founders. He was a teetotaller and this recipe reminded me of a virgin cocktail for whatever reason.
All flavours are TFA and sorry about my lack of formatting. I'm on mobile/can't be bothered.

Honeydew - 4% Cantaloupe -1% Apricot - 1% Pear - 5% Strawberry - 3% Sweet Cream - 0.5%

The honeydew is the front runner in this one. The cantaloupe and apricot add a bit of depth to it. Pear lends a bit of tartness to balance out the sweetness in the melons and strawberry. Just a dash of sweet cream rounds it all out and blends the flavours a bit. You can add some koolada to help cool you down on a hot day or to remove some of the sweetness without killing the overall flavour.

OMG MELONS!!!!!

> When I first started DIY my goal was to clone Watermelon Crack by B-X Vapor. While I've never succeeded, I get distracted easily, it started me on a journey to find my favorite melon flavors. So, without further ado, here are some short reviews and a couple recipes.

--

  • Watermelon Colorless (LA): Not a real Watermelon in a good way. It is sweet, bright, and has a candy taste to it that reminds me of hard candies. This is one of my absolute favorites.
  • Watermelon (FLV: Sweet, juicy, slightly candy like but still realistic. This is a great pair with other melons but doesn't stand on its own well.
  • Wild Melons (FLV): Sweet Baby Jesus. This is my favorite melon flavor by far. It stands alone well but is best paired with a watermelon and/or strawberry.
  • Watermelon (FA): Real, a little under-ripe for me. This one is good paired with another to round things out a bit but is just not my favorite...it is great in some water though.
  • Cantaloupe (CAP): Eh alone but it complements other melons really well. Seems to be a realistic cantaloupe but is a bit "dark"
  • Double Watermelon (CAP): Again, it is a bit of a eh alone but it can round out another Watermelon if used at 2-3%. Kind of rindish and dark.
  • Honeydew Melon (CAP): Another that plays well with others but not alone. I find it a bit harsh and only use it at 1-2%.
  • Melon (LA): Very weak, I almost thought it tasted like strawberry, weird. Not recommended by me.
  • Watermelon (INW): One of my lease favorite INW flavors. I enjoyed it at 2-3% with LA Watermelon but won't buy again.
  • Jungle Juice (FW): Is this a melon? I'm not really sure. It has a bit of a melon taste along with heavy menthol. It is decent alone but I prefer to use it as a complementary melon along with the menthol in some of my coolers.
  • Candy Roll (FLV): This has a very slight watermelon taste. It is almost weird. I don't recommend alone but at 1% it works great as a sweetener with other melons. I also find that it adds a bit of "wetness"

> Melon Lime Something Bichin  > > Ingredient|% > :---|---: > 10% Menthol|0.1 > Candy Roll (Flavorah)|0.75 > Dragon Fruit (INAWERA)|0.5 > Koolada 10% (TPA)|0.75 > LA Watermelon (colorless)|2 > Lime (Flavorah)|0.75 > Lime Tahity (Distilled) (FA)|0.5 > Marshmallow (FA)|0.75 > Strawberry Shisha (INAWERA)|2 > Wild Melon (Flavorah)|3 > > Flavor total: 11.11% > > Remember to rate it at e-liquid-recipes.com! >

> This is my most recent melon creation. It is sweet, bright, and lightly cooled. The lime and melon are predominate but complement each other very well. The strawberry adds a little depth along with a bit of sweetness. The "secret ingrediants" are Candy Roll and Dragon Fruit. Candy roll adds a bit of wetness and sweetens the mix while the Dragon Fruit adds a tang that you feel on the exhale but can't tell what it is. > >** Recommended Steep: Great Shake and Vape but is best after 48hrs.**

> Melon Crack  > > Ingredient|% > :---|---: > Cactus (INAWERA)|0.6 > Cantaloupe (CAP)|1 > Honeydew Melon (CAP)|1.5 > Jackfruit (TPA)|1 > Jungle Juice (FW)|4 > Koolada 10% (TPA)|1.25 > LA Watermelon (colorless)|2.5 > Lemon Sicily (FA)|0.25 > Marshmallow (FA)|0.5 > Watermelon (Flavorah)|3 > Wild Melon (Flavorah)|1.5 > > Flavor total: 17.1% > > Remember to rate it at e-liquid-recipes.com! >

> At a glance, this one looks similar to the first but the flavor is much different. The Melon medley of Cantaloupe, Honeydew, Wild Melon and the 2 Watermelons all blend well and assist one another to become a sweet, tangy, deep but bright and sharp melon flavor. The Jungle Juice complements the melons well and adds the menthol while the koolada adds a heavy cool to the vape. The "secret sauce" in this recipe is Cactus and Jackfruit. The cactus adds a bit of wetness, while also imparting only a bit of cactus flavor while the jackfruit leaves you with a WTF at the end with a sharp note that isn't harsh but you can't quite tell what it is. > >Recommended Steep: Overnight

I hope someone enjoys at least one of these as much as I do. :)

> If someone has both FLV and FA Cantaloupe it'd be great if you could please review or rather compare them and post your opinion here coz there's not a lot info on them two out there. I'm using Capella's which I generally like but it doesn't exactly taste like melons to me

I've posted this here a few times before, but it's still ordered every week at my house so might as well post again.

Obama's Mouthwash

Ingredient|% :---|---: 10% Menthol|1 Cactus (INAWERA)|1 Koolada 10% (TPA)|1 Raspberry (INAWERA)|0.5 Watermelon (LA)|3 Watermelon (TPA)|9

Flavor total: 15.5%

Roommate's cannot get enough of it, very juicy, sweet watermelon menthol with zero coil gunking. Makes for a great adv.

Looks good. The TFA watermelon isn't too much at 9%?

1 points

by helloiamyourpeepawover 9 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

Nope, I've found TFA Watermelon can push a little past 12% and still maintain it's flavor. Cactus for juiciness, raspberry for tart background note. Very simple recipe

TFA & LOR watermelon at a 3:1 ratio gives the very sweet taste of TFA's watermelon but cuts down on more apparent notes and smooth's into a well rounded watermelon candy

Does any one have any experience with FA Red Summer (Watermelon)?

I just can't seem to get it to come through in a mix. For example:

LA Coconut 0.5%
TPA Dx Bavarian Cream 5%
Patchouli Vanilla (NN) 1%
Red Summer (Watermelon) (FA) 5.5%

It mostly taste like a coconut cream with a hint of watermelon. What I was hoping for was a watermelon cream with a hint of coconut.

by pink_er_pantsover 9 years agoProud Sidebar Reader!

I started at 5 and realized it's too much. It's a weaker FA flavor, but 2 - 3.5 is where I like it. Often supplementing TFA watermelon along side

1 points

by jackwk41over 9 years ago

I recently started using red summer and haven't been too impressed by it. I much prefer cap's sweet watermelon or, my person favorite, TFA's watermelon.

I'm excited to see what other people post! I'll be posting my work on a cool honeydew cream I've been playing with

... TFA Honeydew is harder to work with than I thought...

3 points

by whazzisover 9 years ago

Just figure out how much you want to use...then cut the amount in half.

It's extremely potent even at 1% for most of my mixes. I love the stuff though.

3 points

by Klamath9over 9 years ago

Yeah, Ive been messing with Honey Peary clones I've found online that have TFA Honeydew at 3 - 3.5%. Ive taken the Honeydew down to .5%, and it's still completely overwhelming. I don't understand how the makers of those clones tasted their recipes with the Honeydew that high and thought they were anywhere close to right.

2 points

by br4d24over 9 years ago

Ugh I know the feeling, Been trying to make a good honeydew flavor for a while and its hard to work with. My first mix using it was way too high % and it is harsh as fooook!

INW Melon is great, I like it mixed with Shisha Strawberry and a little FA Coconut. I'll see if I can find the percents when I get home.

1 points

by WickAndWireover 9 years agoMixologist

Were you able to find those percentages?

2 points

by JohnLaCuentaover 9 years ago

Here you go:

  • Shisha Strawberry (INW) 2%
  • Melon (INW) 2%
  • Coconut (FA) 1.5%

I like it but that's the only version I've tried, some INW Coconut should be nice in there as well.

1 points

by JohnLaCuentaover 9 years ago

Damn, I totally forgot about that. I'll set up a reminder and check them today. From what I remember the flavor was pretty strong and not perfectly balanced but still really good. Might need some fine tuning if you want something perfect.

I've been playing with melon flavours for a while now, and finally found something worth vaping.

It all started with a bottle of CAP cantaloupe and then escalated..

  • Cantaloupe (CAP) - 4%
  • Cotton Candy (TPA) - 0.5%
  • Dragonfruit (TPA) - 0.5%
  • Lemon Meringue (FW) - 0.5%
  • Marshmallow (TPA) - 0.5%
  • Sweet Strawberry (CAP) - 1.5%
  • Sweet Watermelon (CAP) - 5%

I normally whip this up in 40PG/60VG
