We recently got a sample pack from Real Flavors and like the transparency of the company, but a lot of the flavors smell a little... 'off'? We were wondering what other peoples opinions were of them?
Hey there! Walt here :D
I needed a fresh start with a new crew PLUS I wanted to work on revamping some of the blends. My team is actually working on some blog post to help on mixing with VG based flavors. You are right that they are a bit harder but I promise you the results are way better.
Right now this weekends update will add 30 more flavors, PLUS 20 more coming in April. Phew!
Lastly we are opening up our flavor lab to companies that want a custom flavor. We had a shipment of grapes from from Chile just for one such flavor.
According to the website you just linked: ECX resells their flavours as NorthWest VG Flavors.
It's Walt's brand. He used to run Killer Flavors but got out of that and rebooted his line as Real Flavors.
They appear to be identical to the Killer Flavors line with a few additions. They're all VG, so they don't blend as well as PG-carried volatiles.
I use a few of them but never nailed a percentage.
Does flavor in VG mean that it has to be steeped for longer? how do they differ from regular PG based flavors?
Walt/Killer Juice had excellent customer service and their 99-cent sales were off the charts great. I stopped ordering from them a long time ago after a run of juice orders with far too little flavor. (I don't think it was a VG solvency issue.) I do remember him emphasizing that he valued transparency and quality ingredients, natural wherever possible. Glad to know he's still in the business.
He got rid of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE flavor though (CPT Crunch) -- maybe due to diacetyl or diketones, not sure. I still have 2 ounces left of the stuff and it's amazing.
I hope for big things from RF but definitely needs to release some recipes in how to use the flavors. They're tough!
