Suggested scale to replace AWS LB-501
submitted over 9 years ago by speleo9

I recently had a AWS LB-501 scale bite the dust. I know it seems to be reddits choice scale for home diy, but does anyone have a recommendation for a different type to replace with? I'd like to keep the price below $50.

/u/queuetue, what's the price for components of yours?

Just in components, maybe around ... 35-40 bucks, plus the scale chassis, so about 50 bucks on Amazon. Maybe down to 10-12 if you buy straight from China. But there's a metric ton of assembly required, if you're not an electronic type. (If you're ok with circuits and Arduino, it's pretty plug and play)

Think I may do this as a side project, but I'll need something for mixing fairly soon.

Sign me up for the beta buy of those scales when you're finally ready for public tests. The all the flavors updates have been great.

I'd completely forgot about that project of his. Thanks for reminding me.

Doesn't the LB-501 have like a 10 year warranty?

It does. I've contacted them but have not heard back yet.

This is a good deal and acculab scales were made by sartorius, makers of some of the worlds most accurate scales.

That is a nice deal for that scale, but unfortunately it has a readability of 0.1g. I'm looking for 0.01g.

Yeah, I would like to upgrade to something nicer looking and more precise even maybe, just because I am a dork. The more futuristic and stupid looking with frills I'll never use the better! But I haven't found anything too exciting.

It's rare but I've found iBalance 601 scales on eBay for under $75. I own 3, best scale under $250 and regularly can be found used but in great condition.

Bought one on Craigslist last year for $50 cash. Love the double sided display.

All mine are used scales.

Oh, right, I should have mentioned: When I'm not using my own scale, I use this one

Would you recommend that over the aws?

"Recommend" is a strong word. :)

It's just what I use.
