Noob Question about avoiding harmful additives in Cream flavours
submitted over 9 years ago by hypnochimp

Hi guys, I'm looking to start mixing my own juice soon and I've been doing my homework reseaching whats what. I'm relieved to see Diacetyl has been practically eliminated as an additive but I'm concerned when looking at the recepies on sites like http://e-liquid-recipes.com that many of the cream flavourings come up with a warning that they "Contain Acetoin and/or Acetyl Propionyl" are there alternatives and/or are the dangers being overstated? I'm also concerned about many of the branded flavours I have until now enjoyed. Any help appreciated

Knowing exactly what goes into your juice is the best part of mixing yourself. The dangers from this stuff may be or may not be over-hyped (I think it is), but at least I can choose!

I'm relatively new to this, and I went through a similar period when I was mixing my first batches.

My opinion on this is a few points

>1.) There isn't enough science to definitely say what is or is not safe to vape yet. I generally assume anytime I'm breathing in something that isn't AIR, that it's harmful.

>2.)All the experiments and journal articles that I could find about diketones in e-juice have stated that the levels they found were significantly lower than was found in traditional cigarettes.

>3.)There is a noticeable difference in creamy / buttery flavors that do and don't use diketones. Basically, Diketones are bad for you, but god DAMN they taste good.

Like /u/ucoop34 said, the best part about DIY (besides the $) is knowing and choosing what goes into your juice and lungs.

I personally feel that if something contains significantly less of a harmful substance than cigarettes do, I'm ok with taking that health risk. And as far as flavorings are concerned, the difference is pretty huge.

OP, this guy gets it! Agree 100%. It's harm-REDUCTION. One day I will quit this too, but not today:)

The dangers are exaggerated.

TFA is the only aroma manufacturer that releases full ingredient spec sheets.

If you are concerned I'd use exclusively their flavors unless you can mix your own then send to the lab to test them for ap/diacetyl content.

I've got about 4-5 flavours with an assortment of those "baddies" in it and they are my favourite ones :D

Have 12oz of Vanilla Custard V1 because I thought it would be pulled after V2 came out.

What you do is type the words (sweet creams) and or (fresh creams) into the (search box) on "Bull City Vapors" website .

That site takes the time to show a "caution box" around the flavorings that have the bad stuff in them, just choose the flavorings that have no "caution warning" around them.

Not that other guy, but TFA has a line of "DX" creams that are supposed to be diketone free. I use them and they're pretty good but I don't think I've used the non-DX kind so take that as you will.

TFA Vanilla Swirl is a decent replacement for vanilla custards.

Those "bad/harmful" additives, are so freaking delicious! F the hype for me, until science proves otherwise(or death/disease/whatever). To me, the popcorn lung from way larger amounts of POWDERED diacetyl inhalation for many years, versus the rather minuscule PPM when vaped, hype is meh.....whatever. To each their own I guess. Smoked the nasties for 20+ years that are well known and documented to kill people, but I'm gonna freak out now over some shit like diacetyl? hahaha. no way

by abdadaover 9 years agoI will rip you a new one if you don't use the sidebar & search.

You want help but are unwilling to help yourself by typing Diacetyl into the searchbar here?

The only way to be assured that any batch you make is diketone-free is to have it lab analyzed.

I don't want to see an excellent and useful searchbar destroyed by repetitive and boring posts that could be answered in 5 minutes or less.

There's no reason why anyone should be allowed in any subreddit if they can't at least do a cursory search.

OP will get maybe a few hundred eyeballs. Maybe. Had OP checked the searchbar results, they'd have a LOT of great information.

Once they had information they can add to the usefulness of the archives by asking new questions based on what they read already.

If you think I don't help, fine. Others are in disagreement with you

If the searchbar were truly your concern, you'd happily answer the questions as they are asked, so that EVERY search would come up with the answer, instead of EVERY search coming up with you berating new folks who are just asking us to help.

Now forget about everything you know about anything. You are BRAND NEW to this. Let's go search Diacetyl and include only results in DIY_EJUICE:

https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/search?q=diacetyl&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

Would you be able to find the posters answer in that mess? Would you get what were inside jokes and what was factual?

Please, if you are a moderator, moderate and delete these threads. Otherwise, try to help others or, at least don't be a prick about it.

There's a reason new members are scared to post here. DIY EJuice is not known to have welcoming members.

You fight your search fight, I'll fight the "We are assholes fight"

/soapbox.

As my original comment made clear I'm aware of Diacetyl, I was asking about Acetoin and/or Acetyl Propionyl. thanks iwillnoteatgreeneggs.

To be fair, I spent ~12 hours over the course of 3 daays reading everything in the sidebar numerous times before I ordered my DIY supplies, as well as close to 100 other top posts. I forget where I found certain info and what exactly the info was. Give the dude a break man, we don't all have the sidebar ingrained into our brains.

Tell me honestly you have never tried to go back to something you read on this site and not been able to find it, and I'll call you a liar.
