Anybody else like to write out their recipes by hand?
submitted over 9 years ago by DeathToTheWind

I like to do this, I'll write out everything by hand. PG to VG ratio, the ml, the nicotine, the flavor percentages, etc. Idk why but its like a mini puzzle and its the only recreational math I'd do.

That reminds me, I have to get better at plugging: Last Week of the All The Flavors Beta! https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/104694584242389910959

When are you going to post where to get the scale supplies? I'm chomping at the bit, here.

Sorry, but when you mentioned "plugging" in a DIY eJuice thread I thought I stumbled onto a drug ROA post on accident.

I keep all my recipes in notebooks; a notebook can't crash and delete everything.

But I do much more recreational meth than just when I'm mixing.

Nothing better than tweak mixing

I write down my percentages/flavors in a book but then I'll plug it into a calculator. It's nice to have a book on hand for quick reference or to jot down an idea.

Yes Sir , i am still a "Day Timer" guy and hate electronic planners , don't even own a smart phone .

I don't get phone calls , ever , if my phone rings i know it's the wrong # . I like that type of freedom though , i like to be able to do whatever i want whenever i want .

I also MUCH prefer reviews that are NOT videos , i like text .

I'm mostly the same way with videos vs text. I can't stand watching a video on something that can easily be explained in text, people seem to think I'm crazy.

I was against smartphones for a long time, I got one in the last year only because it was actually cheaper than my old prepaid plan and I didn't have regular internet access at the time, but it does come in handy sometimes.

If i can find a smartphone plan cheap i would go that way just for all the other stuff it can do .

I despise watching video's as you do .

I'm a left-handed creative genius. All of that adds up to incredibly shitty handwriting. I don't write down anything. I fill out all forms in PDF at work and I won't have you people make me feel bad about this!!!

I used to write all my notes in a notebook but then I found Evernote and never looked back

I used to keep stacks of moleskines until I discovered evernote, probably about 4 years ago. Now I've got megs of stuff I can pour over anytime I want to.

I recommend a Pilot Metropolitan fine nib, and a nice Rhodia note pad.

Im more of a broad nib man myself. I had a white broad lamy and i used a red noodlers ink, but i lost the pen. Ive tried clairefontane but i have to say rhodia is the best tbh

As a full-time time college student, my brain already hurts from all these classes. I don't have time to sit down and write out and do all the math for each recipe I make.

Whenever I have recipe that I really really like, something that I vaped at least 500ml of, I'm not bored of it and I know I'd like to vape it in future I'll write it down in my tinny pocket size notepad, it's like quarter size of a4 sheet of paper, I vape everything at 70vg/30pg and 3mg nic so I'm not too concerned about doing any extra calculations and I simply write my recipes for 100ml batches. Easy to turn into 1l batches as well but if I require some fine tuning then I also keep my recipes on e-liquid-recipes.com

I use to, now i just use the juice calculator.

Wouldn't that create the problem that if a recipe tastes like shit you can't just write it off as bad you would have to go back and check you didn't mess up the percentages?

I hand write all of my recipes. I only use a calculator to figure my VG amount, as everything I make is MAX VG. I try to keep the common percentages of my frequently used flavors conversion to grams handy. Most of the time I will just calculate it to grams for every recipe.

I keep a notebook with all of my recipes in it, as well as the amounts needed to make up a 30ml so I don't have to keep going back to the e-liquid calculator every time I make a batch.

I too write all my stuff down. Makes the process much more immersive and fun. Feel more like a mad scientist or something. Haha

When I started DIY, I had a composition notebook to record all of my recipe notes and maths. It was fun at first. The concentrations and unit conversions were fun to work through each time, the notes were fun etc. The fun wore off after a while though, probably because I had to maintain similar hand-written for my thesis work.

I use a spreadsheet for all of my recipes now and life is much easier. Would recommend.

I write it all in my notebooks; recipe, revisions, and tasting notes. Never bothered with a recipe or calculator program, it's faster to just do it in my head.
