submitted over 9 years ago by AutoModerator

OK new mixers, this is your thread to ask any questions you want of the DIY eJuice community. All posts are allowed, but we still encourage you to use the sidebar and search features before asking any questions.

  • Placing your first DIY order and want to make sure you have all you need?
  • Not sure about how to mix your first bottle?
  • Want to get started but aren't sure how?
  • Any other questions? ... then this is the thread for you. FWIW, the answers to the first three questions will eventually be found in the wiki (still in development); link at the top of the page.

Ask away!

How do you guys determine the sweet spot of your flavoriings? I made the mistake of adding as much of my primary flavor (around 9%) and then much less of the others (3% per adding up to fifteen) the end result was okay, but nothing stands out, kind of like everything being on a level plane.

The best way to do this is just trial and error, unfortunately. Very time consuming but you'll get the best results for your specific palate.

In our lab, we have our techs taste flavors at various loads in a 70/30 VG blend so we can get a good idea of where exactly that sweet spot is, and then use that average as our "optimal" flavor usage, which translates into how we do ratios of flavors for Crafter Basic.

I'm just starting as well but I noticed on ELR you can click on an individual flavor and users have posted recommended values.

Cool, thanks, I didn't know that.

No problem, also people recommend searching a specific flavor in the recipe search bar. Then look at the various percentages people are using in their recipes to give you a starting point.

I feel like since I have started making my own juices I have developed vaper tongue. Has anyone else gotten this when you first started? Im thinking about making several diffrent single fglavors just so I can switch between multiple flavors to try and advoid this. What would you guys suggest?

Over flavoring can be the cause.Just make sure to go with the lowest % of potent flavorings, and as low as total flavoring % as you can.

I almost always change flavors each time I refill my tank. And TRY to make sure I'm getting plenty of water. For me when I start to notice a weak taste, its a sign that I need to drink a bottle of water. And slow down vaping a little bit.

Everyone is different, but this works for me.

I have a few questions.

Where do you get your bottles? i like to only use glass bottles but I'm finding it kinda expensive to keep them around (I give juice to a bunch of friends and can't re-use the bottles)

Do you have different bottles when you try new flavors? If so what do you use? Do you have a link?

When you try flavors whats your preferred method? I've been used a single fused clapton in a velocity RDA and that seems to do the trick but I was wondering if there are any other ways people are trying their flavors?

How do you store your ingredients? Right now I just have my stuff in a drawer in my desk, no light gets in but it's just room temperature, is that okay?

  1. Plastic bottles from Bull City Vapor. 100 30ml for $35

  2. Bought a bunch of 10ml from above just for trying new flavors, but usually just do 5ml batches of single flavors.

  3. I use a tank exclusively, but have heard that a clapton coil holds a few drops without the need for cotton. Sounds good in theory.

  4. Everything I have is in a dark closet at room temp, except for nicotine. I follow the method recommended here for that.

You may laugh at the # of bottles but my god did I underestimate. Sometimes you will want to make 2 batches, one 4mg and the other 3mg to see what you like, or 65/70 vs 70/30, it's fun to play around to get your sweet spot and once you do throw it in the big batches.

This video helped me get a good idea of where to start when I was completely new to DIY. Mixing by weight is highly recommended.
