I see a lot on this sub about precision in mixing juices. When I'd first started, I was all about following every procedure available in the side bar, getting exact measurements in my syringes, wearing gloves, wearing goggles, ect.
I've noticed myself getting really lazy when it comes to mixing my juices. Using syringes is tedious and messy, and until I get myself a scale and some squeeze bottles I don't see myself being as meticulous as a lot of you guys are.
I've mixed enough to roughly measure "good enough" by the level the juice is at in my bottle. I put enough VG and PG to get a rough measurement of my ratio, do anywhere from 1-3.5 ml of nicotine depending on how I'm feeling, and then I completely wing the flavoring.
I haven't had any problems with it yet. I don't really need gourmet flavored juice, just a hint of some flavor is good enough for me.
I was just curious as to whether or not there's people who do anything similar!
It's not called lazy, it's called "mixing by weight" when you get fed up with syringes.
Haha as soon as I get my next paycheck I'm definitely getting the stuff to mix by weight.
I just don't know what to do for lats since I won't be sucking VG in a syringe anymore :(
I mix lazy now. I prefer 3 or so mg of nicotine at about 70% or so vg. I order my nic at 6% in 100% vg so that is automatically 1/2 of every mix I do. Such a low concentration of nic is pretty safe to handle too so I don't worry about safety much. Then it's a squirt of vg and a squirt of pg and a few drops of flavor. Shake it and vape it.
I make 16 Oz bottles. I measure in plastic beakers. Super easy.
i make one batch of vanilla custard and i lazified it for myself a bit. i toyed with the numbers so that the main ingredient (cap vanilla custard) comes out to roughly 4oz. so i pretty much just buy a whole 4oz bottle and dump it in. the rest is easy. the batch comes out to something like ~985ml or some odd number.
oh and instead of measuring out the 700 some odd ml of VG (because even with my 100ml syringe, fuck that) i just have the bottle i mix with, it has a line where i measured the exact amount the first time.
I have a coworker that described his mixing about like that.
I don't mix yet, but I'd probably start out all anal retentive, and then as time wore on I'd probably relax my technique a bit...
This is exactly how my progression has gone.
I used to mix everything very precisely, dot all the I's, cross the t's, but at this point if I just need a quick 30ml to take out the door I'll wing it without a real recipe.
I think, like anything, once you do it for a while, you start to learn the things that make a difference and those are the things you pay attention to.
The stuff that doesn't make much difference, you eventually don't give the same priority to.
I'm looking forward to mixing, but have to use up some juice first...
I just made a first draft of my first original recipe tonight. I based all of the percentages on levels used in some other recipes I mixed in the last week. It boiled down to 'some of this, some of that, a little that, oh and the nic!'
Worked out fine though. Not what I was hoping for, but that's kind of the whole point of a first draft.
Well i am not one to freak out and dump a mix because i might be a few ml off here and there , i don't sweat it when i add a few more or less drops here or there either .
I can never tell the difference anyway , that can be called lazy mixing i suppose
I don't just pour flavors in and judge by eye though , i may eventually get there but not at this point . That would mean to me "i just don't give a shit anymore " lol.
I like good tasting juice , i want more than just being able to taste a little flavor
I do that when I'm looking to go off into a different flavor or just need something a little different. Mostly I do shake and vape of fruits that seem good together (watermelon, cantaloupe, menthol; lychee guava; ect.)
Although most of the time I stick to whatever is in my rotation & has been steeping
I'm very lazy. Once I discovered mixing by weight, I suddenly didn't dread the idea of mixing. Zero cleanup!! (So Kong as you're careful)
I'm so lazy that my measurements are frequently off by 0.1 or so, or 0.02+ depending on how fast I was dripping it and usually by what the total I was aiming for. Especially my PG and VG, I frequently go over.
Still tastes yummy.
Of course if I'm trying out someone else's recipe, or if I'm mixing up something new, experimenting, etc, I try to be much more precise. But a recipe I mix frequently is just about always slightly off.
When my diy order first comes in, i follow recipes somewhat precisely. I almost always wing it with pg/vg no matter what though. As soon as i start to run out of a few key flavors, i "freestyle". I am poor so this happens a lot. I am the only one who vapes my juice, so my standards aren't super high.
I've gotten super lazy about handling 100mg Nic. When I started I wore gloves, and chemical safety goggles. Honestly the gloves are a good idea, because that shit will eat up your skin if you get any on you... But I just rinse off my hands in the sink and try not to touch any orifices.
For actual measuring though I am still super anal, because mixing by weight is already easy.
My method is only a touch more accurate, and by no means precise. I use 15ml & 30ml polypropylene Falcon tubes with significant (10%) error and eyeball my stuff by percent. It's super-fast and I've never had a problem with overflavouring or a 'bad' mix. Mix/measure in the tube, cap, shake for a while and pour into bottle. Washing the tube takes like 30 seconds, and you can toss it if it gets shitty. I worked in a laboratory for a long while so I might just be good at estimation, but I honestly think anyone could do it this way and end up with halfway-decent juice provided they don't overload on flavour and maintain reasonable expectations (ie. don't expect super-powerful flavours to work well).
