Or it was labeled incorrectly and they fixed the error?

Seems most likely to me.

FNG labeled it. Supervisor noticed and went "Uh, those labels that were on my desk... what did you just slap them on?"

I called Capella and asked them why and they said it was only a name change. Feel free to call yourself. 760-650-0200

It tastes the same, smells the same... I dont see any changes.

Edit

One thing that I find different after I spent more time with it.

First the smell is a bit less sweet. I can smell the sweetness when I smell "butter" and I do not smell as much sweetness with Golden Butter. (My previous gallon of "Butter" is a lot older than this gallon and could be why...)

The taste is still spot on, and It works just as well in the receipe that I have been using "Butter" in.

Golden butter sounds more glamorous so obviously it tastes better.

Does it smell like it uses butyric acid?

no

edit

a very light scent of something that could be butyric acid. Not as heavy as others that contain butyric acid. Could just be fresher than my other "butter".

maybe they just changed the name, as sweet butter is no longer carried on their site?

The original 'butter' flavor is discontinued which is a shame. I am not sure I can sub golden butter in for my flavors that call for butter... Is sweet butter discontinued as well?

Sweet butter was the original and has been discontinued and replaced with golden butter, which to me is the same.

just a name change, looking at their flavors, there are "sweet" and "golden" I expect to see more with name changes to "Seeet ..... " and "Golden ......"

They re-formulated it to make a flavor without diketones...

So no one is going to ask? Fine... You ordered a gallon of it without knowing beforehand what it was? Or you called before found out and the double label was just a coincidence?

Flavor companies probably have to deal with trademarks and such the name change. Happened to TFA with a gum flavor.
