Vanillin concentration?
submitted over 9 years ago by jomobro117

So I'm pretty new to DIY juice but I'm already loving it! Having moved towards trying to create more complex blends, I quickly came across vanillin.

Naturally, I did my research and I think I have a firm grasp of what it is and does.

However, there is some ambiguity in concentrations. For instance, a recipe I'd like to try calls for 4% vanillin (to be clear, that's in the entire blend, not just the flavour concentrate). So my question is this - if I have vanillin crystals, do I add them to the mix directly as 4% of the mass of the whole thing, or do I need to dilute the crystals beforehand in PG?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the confusingly worded query :P

Typically vanillin is first diluted in PG to a %10 solution by volume. You would then use your vanillin solution at x% in the recipe

Yeah, that's the way to do it. 4% vanillin is still "burn your tongue" strength.
