Looking for Licorice root flavoring
submitted over 9 years ago by Coffee2Code

Hey people,

I'm looking for a licorice root extract, as in the root of a liquorice plant. NOT BLACK LICORICE OR ANYTHING CANDY-LIKE

You can get them as chewing sticks, but I'm looking for a way to turn that into flavoring or buy a flavoring somewhere.

I've seen licorice root extract in a candy I like, so I wondered if it's also available as e-juice flavoring.

Have you tried "black touch licorice plus" from FlavourArt? It's a true licorice root flavor with a back note of tabac its not a candy type and it has some bitterness and spice to it.

I'm not sure that'd be safe to vape, but you can get extracted licorice root from health food places.with just vg and water in it. you could probably find alcohol extracted too. You need to research if thats ok to inhale. Some spices and roots and such are a very bad idea to vape. I've never seen a non "black licorice" ejuice flavoring though. btw, the extract is pretty nasty. (edit: I forgot about FA Black touch [licorice plus] I have it but I've never used it.) http://www.flavourart.nl/en/liquid-black-touch-flavor-licorice-flavor-plus.html another thought is, isn't "black licorice" just licorice root flavored, as opposed to twizzlers or something?

Found this on wikipedia:

Most liquorice is used as a flavouring agent for tobacco, particularly American blend cigarettes, to which liquorice lends a natural sweetness and a distinctive flavour and makes it easier to inhale the smoke by creating bronchodilators, which open up the lungs.

[....]

Excessive consumption of liquorice (more than 2 mg/kg/day of pure glycyrrhizinic acid, a liquorice component) may result in adverse effects, and overconsumption should be suspected clinically in patients presenting with otherwise unexplained hypokalemia and muscle weakness.

I have red licorice (candy) flavoring as well as just anise (related to the same plant)

I'm interested in this too.

I had a look recently, but came up with nothing.

Hmm, i wander if you could grate some licorice root, then put some in a bottle with PG, and let it soak for a week or 2, then filter out the solids.

I know this can be done with ginger, and teas, and what not.

Maybe ask over at /r/Deeper_DIY

Just an option if you cannot find anything suitable.

Wait a second, can this be done with Koolaid too?

to get koolaid flavor? probably but it would gunk coils to all hell and the final product would need lots of sweetener

It might be simpler to just find out what makes koolaid taste like koolaid (its probably easily available flavors) and go from their

The koolaid juice ive tried (Roybot Sauce Flare) was delicious, tastes exactly like koolaid, and was gunked up coils within a couple days, kept it away from my tanks.

Surprisingly I havent seen a lot of Koolaid recipes, I saw one with Lorann Grape but I dont have any so I cant exactly try it. I do have INW Grape which I havent tested in mixes yet, TFA Grape Juice/Candy dont quite fit the flavor profile unless im missing something flavor wise.

I may just try to make an extract from the flavor packs and see how that goes.
