I have been trying out some apps, and i feel like most e juice calculators always lack some functionality and don't offer a full package. so i as a developer would like to set up a new platform that helps you to calculate your recipes.
i would also like to implement things like:
- keep track of batches (to keep track of your steeping)
- keep track of stock, to see if you have enough to make a certain recipe, and estimate when you will run out.
- to keep your notes and share them so it can warn you when you mix 2 flavours that don't go together that well, (or over flavour).
- allowing you to use NIC bases that are premixed if you don't really care about the nicotine dilution by the flavors
- if ELR allows me to use their API, share directly from the calculator to ELR.
- automatic calculation for the cost of the juice.
- calculate how much you saved by DIY.
- extra ingredient suggestion from your stock based on exciting recipies
- turn off features that you don't need. or don't want to use.
- steeping time suggestions based on flavors.
planned release platforms:
- Android
- IOS
later released on:
- Windows Phone
- Web
- Windows
- Mac
- (optional) Linux
- (optional) Tizen
Feature Requests:
- see that similar recipes and how you differ from their flavor percentages.
what things do you guys miss in e juice calculator apps.
A nice feature would be a percentage comparison to similar recipes, eg. you've got TPA Apple at 4% and see that others use 3%. Not very useful for single flavor recipes, but I guess it's nice for complex recipes.
All of that sounds fantastic. I use ELR and EJuice me up
The two main things that i wish I had was....
ELR needs to be able to have a flavour list, and a single flavour should encompass all the keywords, I don`t want to miss out on recipes because I spelled INW raspberry wrong or went with I rasperry know what I mean? Also being able to organize that flavour list would be fantastic as well into different categories.
Ejuice me up, what I hate most about that is that I can only put one weight input for flavours. ONE! THE MSDS IS DIFFERENT FOR ALL OF THEM!
easy versioning.
So you create a recipe, make some, vape some, steep some.
Then you tweak it, make some, vape some, steep some.
Then you tweak it more. and so on.
The Juice Calculator (side bar) is great. But I'd love to be able to 'create new version', and it forks the recipe.
I can then make notes, and (if previously mentioned features are there) I can track batches of that version.
Otherwise its A LOT to keep track of in a small textbox (or notebook)
That and auto-incrementing of version numbers.
So, if you version a recipe, then version it again (without registering a batch) it will give you numbers like MyRecipe: 2.1.1 My Recipe: 2.2.1...
so... {Recipe Name} : {Version Number}.{SubVersion Number}.{Batch Number}
The idea is that if you version a recipe, you might want to make a couple test batches to test a couple of tweaks, but they are still based off of the major version number
Further to this, it would be great to see diffs between versions.
So you see the percentage (or ingredient) diffs between a subversion and its parent version. Or compare 2 subversions side by side.
I'd really like to see something that let's me have different versions of a recipe but without having a huge recipe list filled with v2 v3 v4 etc.
So maybe you have a recipe called "banana pudding" in the list. You select that recipe and then from there you can select the different versions you have made. All of them with separate notes. That way your main list of recipes doesn't get out of control. It also let's you go back and see what worked and what didn't.
Is this already available in any app or website? Have I just missed it?
I would like to see the ability to transport inventory between platforms. Having to manually enter 200 flavors, and the accompanying notes, is quite the chore.
between platforms as ELR and the app might be a bit of a hassle ill have to figure out a system for that but i plan on using a azure cloud server as background so the between devices syncing data will be easy
you could also make an exportable CSV or XML file, and then add an import function across all platforms, so you could export/import then include like DropBox or OneDrive or iCloud syncing.
I've made an app for android with some of the features you've listed, not sure if you've come across it on Google play, it hasn't been out long
Some of what you want is definitely possible, let me know if you want any help :)
However some are not, ELR is holing to at some point make his own app so having access is very unlikely. I had people asking for the same thing on my post
IOS is a hard one too, last I heard apple are blocking any vape related apps on their store, main reason why I havnt made a IOS version yet, could put it on a website but wouldn't imagine everyone would be comftable doing that
All the best in your development, again if you want any help let me know :)
As just a personal DIYer, I tend to make small batches with whatever flavors I have on hand. I would love to see a "what can I make from inventory" option to bring up possible recipes from current stock.
One suggestion I have, is when calculating the cost, have the ability to allocate shipping to the various items in an order. You could just enter the order right off the PO and have it add it to inventory and allocate the shipping to the various items. I'm an accountant by trade so can help with that if need be. Also, when adding inventory to what you already have, an option to just enter the new order, and the software recalculate the cost based on LIFO or FIFO, or WA. The one's I have tried are irritating when you have to manually adjust the cost per ml for every item when you purchase more.
IMO just having this available on iphone will be a major + for the community.
Most of those things are already covered by the recipe calculator found in the sidebar.
"Keep track of batches (to keep track of your steeping)" It can also print labels to attach to the bottle.
"Keep track of stock, to see if you have enough to make a certain recipe, and estimate when you will run out." It also has a feature to remind you to order more or add them to a shopping list.
"Keep your notes and share them so it can warn you when you mix 2 flavors that don't go together that well, (or over flavor)." I make notes from day one and through the steep cycle.
"Allowing you to use NIC bases that are premixed if you don't really care about the nicotine dilution by the flavors." Yup it does that already.
"Calculation for the cost of the juice. " It tells you exactly how much it cost to produce the batch if you input all the information in the ingredients Inventory.
i agree that that one is definitely feeling rather complete. however i always mix on an other location then near my computer and don't feel like printing the recipes. so it would be nice to have it run on your phone and or tablet.
If you could take that calculator and make it an iOS app, I would buy it. Definitely.
Completely agree. I use eliquid recipe manager pro by composed chaos. I think it has all the features outlined including importing and exporting both flavor and recipe databases. Unfortunately it does so in sql db format which kinda makes it useless if you don't know how to convert that data to something you can use elsewhere. An app that connects with Dropbox or google drive to sync data would be incredible so you could use it cross platform. The other complaint I have of all the apps is they are ugly AF and the ui is terrible. I'd love to help on that end if you need. have done a fair amount of front end design experience.
Another vote for being able to use data files from [whichever desktop application] accessible from the cloud on a mobile device.
Crack that part and release it as v1 (building a user-base) before figuring out what you can offer for subsequent generations that [whichever desktop application] currently does not.
What I do is have 2 recipes for 1 flavor. So say it was a StrawNana Flavor. My 2 recipes would be named StrawNana RAW and StrawNana PREMIX. The StrawNana RAW is used to make the StrawNana PREMIX and the StrawNana PREMIX is used to make the Final product So say the RAW recipe calls for 5% Strawberry and 2% Banana, the Recipe would be entered as such (No Nicotine, VG or PG because it's just the recipe for the StrawNana Flavoring) and the Recipe for StrawNana PREMIX would be 3% Nic, 7% StrawNanaRAW. Anyway, I usually make 120Ml of StrawNanaPREMIX at a time.so what I would like is a calculator to make 120Ml bottle of Premix. The way I do it now is I enter into the calculator just like I am making Eliquid but I usually have to go up to 2000Ml, add up the amount of flavoring and see how close I can get to 120Ml. Where as if I just enter 120Ml into the PREMIX calculator, then it's done....
This is what I'd like:
When you buy a concentrate/bottle of VG/PG/Nic, you enter the amount you bought into the app. When you mix, you tell the app the volume of juice that you've just mixed up and it calculates how much of each concentrate you have left. There is a page on the app titled "Purchase List" or "Running low" or something, so you don't have to trawl through all of your juices whenever you make a concentrate order just to realise that you should have bought another bottle of Dragonfruit and now have to pay another load of postage.
Over time, the app could even analyse your usages and calculate re-order points, sending a notification to your phone telling you that you need to order some Graham Cracker pretty sharpish or you'll be vaping crustless pies for the next 2 weeks.
Versioning would be awesome. I will be the first to buy the app or donate if it's done right.
Another thing I found lacking in the calculators I've tried is the option to "save as". Let's say you have a banana custard recipe and one day you decide to make a raspberry custard with the exact same base but only subbing banana for raspberry. With the current apps it's a pita because you have to reinput the whole recipe. It would be very convenient if you could only tweak one flavour and save it as something else.
Another thing, if you are willing to go the extra mile, you could make it so that people can see recipes in a modular way. Think Java. Let's say you have combos of flavours (bases, or fruit mixes) that you know go well together. You could group them so they can be reused afterwards in another mix. Ideally you would have a flavour list and a combo list (with bases, main notes, etc sublists).
