Crunch Berries, a fresh take
submitted almost 10 years ago by SuperKoopaTrooper

Ok guys, this is my first recipe and I'm proud of it. Its almost on point its so close but something is missing and I'm hoping someone who has all these flavors can try it and give me some input. As it stands now, its excellent, smells amazing and holds up well to vapors tongue. I just know it can be better. For that reason, I just ask that people do not substitute ingredients and if they do, to mention that before giving me opinions about it. Its my baby and I've been working on it for a few months now. My friends tell me they would buy this and not think twice at a shop but they probably dont want to hurt my feelings So here it is.

  • FW - Yellowcake 1%

  • FA - Meringue 2%

  • FA - Hazelnut .5%

  • CAP - Butter .5%

  • CAP - Custard v1 .5%

  • TFA - Strawberry ripe 6%

  • TFA - Strawberry 6% - Important

  • AP .5%

  • TFA - Graham Cracker clear .5%

I know the ingredients seem odd for a crunch berry cereal but give it a try guys and let me know. The first day it will taste syrupy but on day 2 its perfect.

I'd also like to thank DIYorDIE for getting me into creating ejuice and giving me advice like taking notes. otherwise this recipe just wouldn't be what it is currently.

Notes: The meringue and hazelnut give it a sweet cereal like base to work with. Accentuated by the ap at .5%. Both custard v1 and butter give it a mild cream taste while the graham cracker clear helps both the grain to come out more as well as aiding in the creamy taste. Last but the most important ingredient is oddly, TFA-Strawberry. at 6% it gives a well rounded artificial berry taste that goes well beyond just strawberry. While strawberry ripe helps make it sweeter and add more depth to the berry taste.

What does it taste like? Like crunchberries haha, it leans more towards the berries and its so close. I just am missing one thing I cant put my finger on. I've tried using the obvious tfa-berry crunch but it ruins the recipe and kills the berry flavor I feel like I nailed.

I mainly vape around 40-75 Watts on an rda, so my opinions reflect this perspective.

First read through/glance at the flavor - Its not actually too odd. If you actually taste steeped captain crunchberry milk, likely from the strawberry juice concentrate ingredient on top of the flavoring they use, is dominantly strawberry. It reminds me of nesquik infused with hints of other fruit with light cereal flavor, and a ton of sugar.

That being said, I do think diversifying the fruit a little bit would nicely round it out. The fruit flavors I mainly associate with crunch berries in my own taste tests also include blueberry and a hint of raspberry. I also taste something of a very subtle orange citrus type flavor.

Custards work really great in cereals at or under 1%. I would look at Flavorah's Vanilla Custard for cereal applications, its a perfect match around 0.50-1% to enhance the creamy milky body of the milk note. It isn't quite as heavy and allows the fruits to pop out a bit more in my opinion.

AP 0.5%. I'm more inclined to think that TFA Captain Cereal would be a better fit. It is a pretty good flavor that will give it more authenticity than acetyl pyrazine. AP is a little much for me at 0.5, I typically use it around 0.05-0.2.

TFA Strawberries both at 6%. 6% Strawberry Ripe would be a bit much for me in the way I vape, TFA Strawberry is more forgiving on a palatable range. TFA Strawberry is really great for its emulsifying properties in cereals as it contains triethyl citrate. It enhances other fruit flavors while remaining a prominent note so I like the addition.

Graham Cracker Clear 0.5% is fine, nothing really to remark on this addition.

FA Meringue 2%. Preferences vary on this one, I like it around 0.75% in cereal applications.

FW Yellowcake - not a big fan at the wattage I run, so I would leave this out.

What I think you are missing in the extra berry flavor, and light hint of citrus that is distinctive in cereals.

If I was going to adapt your recipe with how I vape (attempting to not change as much as possible) and my suggestions It would look something like this -

  • TFA Strawberry 6%
  • TFA Strawberry Ripe 2% - dropped to give a bit more space and reduce harshness
  • INW Raspberry 0.25% - subtle raspberry flavor
  • FA Bilberry 0.30% - tiny bit of blueberry note
  • FLV Vanilla Custard 1% - My preference over CAP's in cereal application
  • TFA Captain Cereal 0.75% - in place of acetyl pyrazine, balanced mix of pyrazines for cereals rather than 1 distinctive one
  • TFA Graham Cracker Clear 0.50% - little unicorn milk like, I'll roll with it
  • FA Meringue 0.75% - sweetness, enhancer to the milk profile
  • FW Hazelnut 0.50% - non specific nuttiness for the base, less distinctive then fa. creamy
  • FA Fresh Cream 0.50% - milk flavor that follows up on custard, smooth out the vape
  • INW Orange 0.25% - for a hint of citrus, little extra sweetness
  • TFA Sour 0.05% - to emulate the malic acid present in the actual cereal.

I'm at work right now, I'll mix your recipe exactly as described and let you know what I think when I get home. In the meantime felt like sharing a recipe that would articulate changes I would probably make to it.

Thank you, ur input is actually helping me a lot. I was concerned that Raspberry would turn it into trix but I'm going to have to try it with that. I need to pick some more up and I hear bilberry is excellent. I'm a little hesitant on the orange as I'm not a fan of the citrus notes in most cereals but it seems to be a really low % and I'm gonna add that to my shopping cart too. Might be a great supporting flavor. I agree though, tfa- strawberry is kind of amazing. Yellowcake just seemed to give the strawberry a more rounded aspect to me, bringing forth other notes in the flavor, but I can see how people don't like it. Its the worst coil clogger and is highly dependent on wattage. As for TFA- Captain Cereal, how is it compared to tfa-berry crunch. I ask because berry crunch just took over the whole recipe at 2%. I've been working on this recipe with a 24g clapton coil, perhaps I should go a little more basic for the time being.

As long as you mainly have strawberry and little blueberry, you have the basis for crunchberries. I taste a very light hint of raspberry, start at 0.25% and see what you think. Totally optional, just a little more authentic for me.

Is there a replacement flavor that can be used instead of CAP Butter? I have everything else but that.

Okay a few things you're missing and THANKYOU for posting this. First off is creams.

  • 1.4% Fresh Cream FA
  • 1.2% Bavarian Cream TFA
  • .5% Vienna Cream FA (adds an ever so slight frosted effect) this is optional.
  • .3% torrone FA (not really a cream but mixed with Meringue this is amazing and gives an ever so slight powder sugar aftertaste)
  • 1-2% Marshmallow FA (I use a 2:2:1 ratio of FA/CaP/TFA at 2% so .8 .8 .4 if you have the flavors)

Now for the rest. The rest is great but I'm not so sure if strawberry is the only flavor. I know strawberry is easily overpowered so go super light on a few dark berries. I'd pick Bilberry FA and blueberry FW and possibly a little INW Ras. Also drop the strawberries a little. At least the Ripe. So try this.

  • 6% Strawberry TFA
  • 2.5% Strawberry Ripe
  • 1.5% Blueberry FW
  • .3% Bilberry FA
  • .7% Ras INW

Dude please work on this with me. I've been wanting a crunchberry flavor and I have all these flavors and MANY more.

This makes absolutely no sense. If you don't want people to creation with your experiment, don't upload it on a subreddit which happens to be about DIY.

I politely disagree. He would like an accurate opinion on HIS creation and asked what he could add to it, to make it that 1% better. You cannot give an opinion on something if you change it first.

That being said, I think we have all the ingredients except maybe the hazelnut, which I will order asap and try it out. Sounds good. I'll let you know.

I see both sides but tend to air on the side of nonsubstitution. It drives me nuts when people change 3/4 of the recipe and then have the gall to comment on the recipe. It's insane.

I agree. There seems to have been a miscommunication, maybe on both sides. I think the points are both valid. If you want to help make the recipe better/improve, as was asked, then subs and changes are required. If you want to give feedback on the recipe as it sits then yes no subs. How grey.

I think the OP misunderstand the diff between missing one thing and adjusting and changing a recipe to make it 100%. There is no black and white: it could be one thing missing or a combo of adjustments and or subs to make it right.

There are two or more questions here. The op sees it as one. "This is what I have made: make it and tell me what you think and what it needs. That one thing it needs." It is more complicated and that is what was communicated. Is the recipe as posted worth making and then give feedback? Is it worth developing into something worthwhile and share that? If so, then there are so many variations possible that to hamstring others attempts is silly. It would discourage others from wanting to work on it and limit the outcome. Just post the recipe or idea and if someone wants to help they will. If others substitute pay attention because they may find your solution.

The real point is: this is reddit so the readers will decide for themselves what they want to do. Embrace this and enjoy the creativity and madness that ensues.

I tried this recipe, but didn't have half of the flavors so I substituted in ten percent tfa honey and twenty percent tfa cheesecake in their place. This recipe is terrible! /s
