This goes out to New Zealand! Pavlova: A Scrumptious, Fruity Cake [RECIPE]
submitted almost 10 years ago by testaccount54

For those that don't know, Pavlova is a New Zealand dessert comprised of a meringue cake topped off with (most commonly) kiwis and strawberries, although a lot of fruits can be used.

I've wanted to do something with Kiwi for a while now, as I'm a huge fan of it's succulence and tartness. The major improvement this recipe needs, IMO, is a better Kiwi flavor, but the base is absolutely solid in my opinion and I love vaping it. So, while I search out that Kiwi, here's the first finished version. You can shake and vape it, but it won't taste right, give it 3-4 days of steeping for everything to homogenize before hitting it.

Pavlova v1.0

6% TPA - Kiwi Double

3.5% CAP - Sugar Cookie

3% CAP - Juicy Lemon

3% TPA - Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

1.5% FA - Meringue

Onto the breakdown:

Kiwi Double - A decent enough kiwi flavor, but I don't know if it captures the essence of kiwi very well. There's not enough tartness, although it tastes pretty good. It doesn't taste enough like kiwi, though, and I think that's my major problem with it. At 6%, it's almost prominent enough to really cut through the creams that we're playing with, but it still needs a bit more fruitiness and sharpness to not get lost in the mix. This is where...

Juicy Lemon - comes in. It's a solid lemon flavor because, unlike TPA's, it's not too harsh. It's really good for this mix because it's very subtle, but offers up that freshness, brightness, and tartness that the Pavlova cake utilizes. At 3%, we're using it to backend the Kiwi Double and elevate it, giving it more of that "fresh kiwi" quality without becoming a flavor note in itself.

Cream Base - It's hard to talk about it individually because the cream base in this recipe really depends upon the interplay of VBIC-SC-M. The sugar cookie offers the base to build on, with its sweetness and a very very faint hint of crunch. The VBIC offers up more of a body to the vape, making sure that it tastes like you're eating a cake instead of just fruit with cream. The meringue helps to compliment both, building on the sweetness of the other flavorings. I like to think of the combination of these flavorings as its own separate flavoring, because it's just so hard to tear apart.

Final Notes:

Firstly, thanks to /u/Enyawreklaw whose funfetti is one of my favorites and led to me playing around with Sugar Cookie/VBIC. To improve this flavor, I'm thinking that another company's kiwi is worth trying, but as is I am VERY happy with how it turned out. It's definitely ADV contender for me. You may also consider using TPA's Strawberry Ripe in the mix as it's another common ingredient, but I wanted to avoid making strawberries & cream. If anyone has other ideas on how to potentially improve this mix, please let me know! Oh- just remembered. I attempted to give it some more crust (not just what Sugar Cookie offers) with INW biscuit, but it didn't turn out well. I don't think I like that flavor very much. I'm going to try using graham cracker clear, but if anyone else has other ideas for how to give it a bit of crunch, that'd be amazing!

Will need to sub the Lemon with Peach but will give it a mix tonight.

I'm not sure if Aussies have learnt to work computers yet but if they have you may get some wander in here talking crazy about Pav being a Australian dessert, just ignore them.

Do you have any other vendor's lemons? I don't know if peach would sub in well, but I'm definitely interested in your thoughts!

we claim anything good from NZ as our own.. lamingtons anyone? Lol

I'll be bookmarking this, a little passionfruit is common with pavs in my family so may add that and decrease the lemon.

NZ'er here. Will get the concentrates for this on my next order and give it a shot.

Might try it without the fruit as well, always preferred my pav with just a scoop of ice cream. Canned peaches were always the go to in our family, might give it a shot that way as well.

TFA Cheesecake (Graham Crust) could be another one worth a try to add some crunch to it.

TPA's Juicy peach is a great flavor, definitely try using that in place of (or with) the kiwi, I'd probably do a 4/4% of each in that case.

CGC is a flavour i've considered, but I haven't had good success with it in the past. It's got an... odd flavor for me.

I've never had much luck with TFA Juicy Peach, has a weird skin/pit flavour to me. I've got FA Peach and CAP Peach, one of which will probably do the trick.

Yeah, I think I know the flavour you're talking about, almost a white pepper type note. Shows up strongly in some mixes and not so bad in others for me.

Cheers for the recipe, will probably be a few weeks until the concentrates I'm missing come in, but once I've given a shot I'll let you know how it goes.

I mix CAP peach and CAP apricot to get a nice bold, rounded off peach flavor. It comes out tasting like a whole ripe peach. Would highly recommend. I mix at a 2 Peach to 1 Apricot ration.

Oooh. TFA's butterscotch, brown sugar extra, vanilla custard all have a sort of brown sugar/burnt sugar/hokey pokey type thing going on. I'd start with some combo of those and a good milk chocolate to finish it off.

This is interesting. I've tried to make a pav before and never thought about adding anything 'cake-y' or 'cookie-y' to it since there isn't flour or butter in the original.

Yeah, there's no real butteriness to this recipe. The sugar cookie doesn't impart much of a cookie flavor, just a creaminess and sugaryness with the faintest faint hint of cakeness

FA Apple Pie @ ~1% might work.

Thanks for the share. Sorry if someone already said but FA cookie and Cap SC go nice together. Let it sit and it is a real nice combo.
