I'm just starting DIY. Got a bunch of flavors in the mail (before the VG base) and they all smell like a dead fart.

Is this normal or did I shit the bed with my first order?

CA Cake Batter
CA Chocolate Glazed Doughnut
FA Vienna Cream
FA Whipped Cream

I'm going for a Night Shift-with-more-cream-and-doughnuts flavor.

I learned early on that some flavors smell and taste differently. Dead fart seems a bit extreme but it may be the case, however slight. I'd say you won't know for sure until you mix them separately.

You act like "dead fart" flavor is a bad thing .

Dead Fart is my ADV

And a stellar choice for an ADV i might add, good call.

Your CAP flavors are (IMHO) lousy ones. A better cake batter is FW, and CAP CGD is horrible (and yes I tried Bronuts).

Your FA flavors are good additives / adjuncts, but not good as primary flavors.

I don't think you can make a good juice with what you bought.

Check the "my first order" link in the sidebar before you order again.

Sorry it came off so harsh, just wanted to lay it out there and not sugar coat it.

FWIW, my first order was a wash as well. I had three flavors in there (out of 8 total) that I've NEVER used in a recipe.

Spend a couple hours in the sidebar before diving in. I know the temptation to get going is strong, but it will save you from wasting a lot of money. Another good way to pick flavors is to buy the ingredients for highly rated recipes.

What do you think about these for a second order?

TFA Vanilla Swirl
TFA Graham Cracker Clear
TFA Banana Cream
FA Cookie
Ethyl Maltol

Where did you order from? Seems unusual.

Mix them separately at 3-5% and see if any of them taste bad to you

What do you mean?

he means mix each flavor in its own individual batch, without mixing flavors so that you can get a sense of what each flavor tastes like on its own.

I have had this happen a fee times with different vendors as I have been diying for some time. I'm starting to think they are selling expired product. Flavors do go bad over time and they do not denote expiration dates on their bottles most of the time. Plus if the companies are buying in bulk some of that juice can be sitting for quite sometime being they don't want to take a hit to the pocket book. How do we protect ourselves from this? Nah meen?

Most of what no have ordered the past year or so has always been fresh. I can tell by the color and smell. I've orderd from all the big vendors

You protect yourself by not buying "rebottled" concentrates and spending the little extra on "original" packaging. This means you'll have to remove some vendors from your list of who you'll buy from and some you may have to order directly from the manufacturer.

Not to worry, the FDA will take care of this for us. :)

They often smell different than they taste. Mix a drop or two into a shot glass of water and drink it to better understand how it will taste in an ejuice mixture.

If they were all in the same package I would assume it was due to something happening to the package. Just mix them up and see how they taste. My Vienna Cream does not taste or smell like fart so idk

I have most of those flavors and they all smell a little different. The vienna cream has a bit of a creamy alcohol smell to it, doughnut smells vaguely like chocolate and a bit of a doughy smell, and cake batter smells a little funky but I wouldn't call it a fart.

So what's the recipe for "Dead Fart"? Sounds like it could make a killing.

Yeah those flavors do have an odd smell to them. I'm guessing CA is capellas, the common abbreviation here is CAP. For all the sensitive bitches on here recently, I do not mean that in a hostile way!

Dead fart could make a nice background note in some sour flavors, like cheesecake or yogurt.

Just make sure there's no diacitayl in those farts, and you'll be ok.m

Did you pick someone's proven recipe and get this list or did you just order of the top of your head on what sounded good without knowing about these flavors?

I don't recommend that new mixers buy flavor to experiment with. Just leaning how to do the ratios and leaning what each concentrate does will be enough experimentation for any new mixer.
