What can you actually post in this sub?
submitted almost 10 years ago by Pixels_On_FireMixologist

I don't understand what can and can not be posted. This is a sub about making your own Vape juice at home. But it seems to me that all posts actually about making vape juice are forbidden?

Not allowed: Supplies you use to make vape juice, flavors your developed.

Allowed: _____________?

EDIT: Althought a smartass post, all my questions are answered. Thanks guys

I love this sub but you guys are coming across as buttholes to the new users. You can say the same things you're saying just in a more positive way. Internet has a funny way of implying a tone of voice into someone's head when they read something.

Lets all just be a wee bit more positive cuz i love yall!

Just finding this sub feels a bit like I walked into a conference room with 20k people and everyone stops talking to turn and look at me. Then the panel of Mods says "Can we fucking help you?"

I think I've only noticed ~5 regulars, 10-12 when they feel like dogpiling on a poor newb that doesn't have the inclination to piss back in their faces. Most of the ppl in the sub though are by and large good ppl...

>like dogpiling on a poor newb that doesn't have the inclination to ~~piss back in their faces.~~ read the rules or sidebar.

FTFY. If it's a newb that has a genuine question that we haven't already answered hundreds of times, we are extremely helpful.

It's when a newb asks what they can make with their flavors literally an hour after the suggest a recipe thread gets posted that people start teaching them the rules.

You seem to take offense, when I was only making a general observation. Generally speaking, there are a few ppl who dont give a fuck about helping new ppl, or if new ppl even come here. It can be 2 days before a monthly/weekly thread (that gets buried DEEP, if you sort everything according to 'new', rather than 'hot' in preferences.

And besides all of that... this is reddit. If people read every goddamned thing in the fucking sidebar before they ever posted to any sub they might have an interest in... reddit would not be what it is today. Perhaps you and others would be happy about that, within this little corner of the world you have control over, but all I have to say about that is... fuck that. Make a wiki or a dedicated forum, but on reddit you should accept that everyday there will be new people stopping by to annoy you to tears just because the day ends in 'Y'.

Have a great day.

Reddit needs to implement a font color for using the enthusiastic-lemmehelpyouwiththat salesman tone. I can't count the amount of times I've been called a cock on here when I wasn't even trying to be sarcastic or cockish.

"Read the sidebar" <---------- saying that a thousand times is definitely allowed.

You are referring to "what can't you post"

I was asking, what can you post?

10 points

by vapaioloalmost 10 years ago

Was being a smart ass. Cz it seems like nothing is allowed. Almost everything posted gets replied with, "read the sidebar".

I still like this forum. But, it needs a cold cruel wake up call.

All forms of cloning, questions, requesting help in cloning should be allowed. Especially on a DIY forum. It sparks discussion. This was really the biggest and maybe only leg up this forum has ever had.

Mods should be mods, and just delete content that sucks. Everyone hates mods that point to rules. Everyone appreciates the mod that cleans out spam. Pointing to a sidebar that is deplorable? -> its choking full of bad information, and good that users don't read through it.

Yet.. Since this forum wants to be a rulebook, and restricted to a one-page-view recipe reference for manufacturers.. All pillow banter that has flooded this forum should be against a rule too.. It's more nauseating than daily hand-checks. Has less content. And is more painful to sift through too.

What you posted was considered a "DIY Vape Mail." That's why it was removed. We recently added rules because of the amount of hand-checks and "look what I just made"s that we were getting.

To quote the rules: > 3. No "hand-checks", "DIY Vape mail", "review my order" or "what can I make with these flavors" posts - period.

And there's even a section stating what posts will be deleted:

> Posts which will be deleted:

  1. Hand-checks, Vape mail, Review my order, "What can I make with these flavors".
  2. Juice solicitations
  3. Clone/Recipe Requests
  4. Low effort "help" requests

This place used to be great but anymore it's just set up for stagnation. There are other forums that are much nicer and tons more discussion going on. Pm me for links and any diy questions you may have.

I just really like reddit. Unfortunately, this sub aint it. As I said before, a lot of good people here... but the rules are completely opposite to the spirit of reddit.

Having a discussion with someone that's talented and respected at what you want to learn is awesome. I think people forget that when they get to the next level. If that person shits on your head it's truly embarrassing even on the Internet and especially in subs like this where everyone kinda gets to know each other's personalities/quirks/sense of humor. There's certainly a dickish attitude towards the new users and that's truly sad. If we're talking about a community that wants to share knowledge with people about diy ejuice and you really care about diy, the community and teaching, then there shouldn't be an issue. The sidebar patrol doesn't inspire conversation and being mean will only push the new users away only to stagnate this sub even more. We were all new at one point and didn't understand how all of this works. Just be nice for fucks sake.

There are some very active good DIY Facebook groups as well. I find users generally jump at the chance to help others on them with the only thing being modded is attacks on users and advertising.

*Don't!

Don't want to read all the rage below, and after your edit, I'd still like to awnser.

Good posts are you posting a recipe, it's notes, a bit of a backstory of how it got there, and so on. Also great finds, for example "FA Joy and FLV Blueberry surprisingly go amazing together and these are the things I've done with it" Or just something that could bring some widely unknown knowledge to the table that people can benefit from.

Yes most questions can be awnserd in the sidebar, and the rules states what is and isn't a reasonable post, but don't forget that under that rule, it said not to even say anything to the OP, but to down vote, report and move on. So all of those grilling people about breaking the rules, aren't doing any better and are being counterproductive. Sorry you got the butt of the aggrevated hostilities that's been so popular here. I hope it's not the death of this sub, as this place was the motivator that helped me start my most important hobby.

There's a list of rules in the sidebar showing what will be removed. DIY Vapemail is stated to be subject to removal. Your post was showing your DIY Vapemail, so it was removed.

I searched the sub for a definition of "hand-checks" "DIY Vape Mail" & "Review my Order." These terms appear to be a "in the biz" type terminology that the mods understand but as a redditor popping my head in to talk DIY Ejuice they mean nothing.

DIY Vape Mail - I will send you vape stuff in the mail? "Hand Checks - No fucking clue

> Hand-checks, Vape mail, Review my order, "What can I make with these flavors".

Don't post pics of your gear because nobody cares and you are not a unique and special snowflake..

Don't post pics of a shipment of supplies you just received because nobody cares and you are not a unique and special snowflake.

Don't post "here's a screenshot of my order. How did I do?" because nobody cares and you are not a unique and special snowflake.

Don't post "What can I make with these flavors" because this sub is full of glorious research opportunities and you are not a unique and special snowflake.

Don't post clone requests because if it hasn't already been discussed (use search), nobody on the sub has it and you are not a unique and special snowflake.

All of that boils down to "Don't be a pest and don't be lazy".

That wasn't so hard, was it?

Feel free to post recipes you are working on. People are happy to chime in with suggestions, critiques, etc. That's what this sub is about.

To recap, this sub is about discussing diy eliquid recipes. This sub is not about pictures of shit nobody gives about. This sub is also not about expecting everyone to do everything for you.

So we can post recipes we are working on, but not completed ones without notes? This is why I haven't posted a recipe and don't plan to anymore. This is so vague, I keep reading different things, and the rule about it is vague as hell also. I love this thread so much, but I wish I could post a recipe without getting hated on, I hate sharing recipes on the monthlies. I do like to share recipes so others can try them, and I understand the ease of use with the monthly thread, however I like feedback too, not many people are it in the monthly, and they tend do get lost in it. I know when I look down that thread, I do it for about 5 minutes and end up doing something else, I do see some people actually looking at everything on it, but not many, and not enough to get a conversation going and help by critiquing my recipes.

I commented on the thread announcing the rule changes about hand checks... I too didn't understand the term, but asked that clarification of it be added to the sidebar. Given that my thread was deleted, I gleaned the meaning pretty quick.

If you want an example of what we mean by vape mail, search the term at ECR. It's pictures of stuff you got in the mail. A "handcheck" with an envelope and a shipping label in it.

-5 points

by tranceinatealmost 10 years agoMixologist

Bullshit. Have you never been on ECR? You know damned well what a handcheck, VapeMail, & Review my order threads are. It's literally their names; similar threads PLAGUE ecr.

by Pixels_On_Firealmost 10 years agoMixologist

I have used ECR pleanty, but only looking at flavors.

Wait no, what is ECR. I was thinking you meant ELR (e-liquid-recipes)

Have the moderators on this site considered a more passive approach? It is clear that you all put a substantial amount of effort into keeping this site the way you want it, but have you even considered the concerns other users have been voicing?

You make and enforce rules to ensure quality content, but I think you're placing far too much emphasis on rules. Some of your rules are so outlandishly complicated that they deter relevant discussion. Other rules (like your sidebar meme), deter new users from posting on this sub comfortably.

This is an online forum. Why should a regime of unnecessary rules based your own definition of quality content come before the content itself?

by skiddlzninjaalmost 10 years agoThat one moderator. You know, the honey guy.

Allowed: Recipes with significant notes; enough to incite thoughtful discussion

Tasting notes/flavor reviews

Questions that are not easily searchable or already answered in the sidebar.

Meta subjects about how to make the sub better

Information on aspects of DIY ejuice(manufacturers, vendors, nicotine, aroma volatiles)

Studies about specific aroma volatiles

I'm forgetting some, but I need to go to work now. I'll revisit this when I have time.

Can you tell me what a "hand check" is?

1 points

by skiddlzninjaalmost 10 years agoThat one moderator. You know, the honey guy.

Showing things off. "look at what I got/ look at my cardboard storage/ look at my first finished bottle/ look at my DIY station" posted as a link. If a link is posted IN a text post(explaining what is in the picture/recipe of the juice/deal you got/why your fucking cardboard box is better than other cardboard boxes it's okay to post, so long as it still follows the rules.(I really hate the cardboard posts, but if it helps users learn how to make one and organize their flavors, I allow it)

Essentially, don't post a direct link to the image. Post some text about the image(that follows the rules and contributes to discussion) and add a link to the picture you want to share.

Basically you can only post if you put effort into your post.

Maybe we can put a timer on the Submit new content page?

How about you actually read the rules, comprehend them, & then extrapolate from there? Its pretty simple, really.

edit: The first & last rules about Fight Club are: Read the damned sidebar. It is forever damned because you won't read it.
