RY4 Help (recipe inside)

I recently received FA RY4 which I chose over Hangsen because of the reviews. I wasn't quite sure where to start and followed this recipe posted by a fellow redditor /u/vapeguy80.

FA RY4 2%
FA Vanilla Bourbon 1%
FA Caramel .5%
FA Vienna Cream .5%

I will admit I've only let this steep for 24 hours and tried a small sample on fresh cotton. On the nose I can hardly smell anything except the slightest hint of caramel.

The vape itself has depth and body and has a subtlety sweet exhale from the caramel. Overall the flavor seems mute and 'diluted' but has good potential.

This is my first time working with any of these FA flavors. Am I being impatient? Any suggestions on steep time?

Right now I believe the overall caramel flavor isn't present. The RY4 in its current state adds just enough of that dirty base to add the presence of tobacco without it actually being a tobacco vape.

Additionally I would like to see more from Vienna Cream and Vanilla Bourbon in this mix. I may potentially add FA Cream Fresh at 1% to compliment the other creams and bring out that RY4.

Thoughts/Advice?

I've only recently started with DIY mixing and FA RY4 was one of the first flavours I started playing around with, using much the same ingredients you have. My experiences so far for what it's worth:

It needs a least a week of steep.
It's not a strong flavour, for my tastes I need to go to 5% to get much from it.
For a fuller creamer flavour, I like FA Catalan Cream with it and this one seems to go well with tobaccos in general. It's got a spicy citrus note in it, may not be everyone's taste but I like it. Try 1% on top of the 0.5 FA Vienna.

My latest mix which turned out OK but not the wow I was hoping for, was this one:
FA RY4 5%
FA Caramel 1%
FA Vanilla Bourbon 0.5%
FA Catalan Cream 1.5%
FA Vienna Cream 0.5%

I also tried for a dirtier version of that one with 1.5% FLV Virginia added. That was OK too, a bit more of the extra tobacco hint I'm after in my RY4 but still not quite there. I might try some FA Soho or FA 7 Leaves instead next time.

Overall I'm slightly disappointed with FA RY4 so far, I'm finding it a bit thin and gutless.

For a great RY4 that's pretty much a one flavour mix out of the can I highly recommend FA RY4 Nutzilla, it's one I've hardly seen any mention of but try it, it's terrific. I'm guessing it might be FA RY4 Legend (not tried it, just guessing) with some FA Nut Mix spiked in there. I've gone through nearly a whole bottle mixed at 10% on it's own. An extra 1 or 2% Caramel is also good with it but that's about all you need.

This is great. I'm glad you share a similar experience with the flavors. Your feedback is much appreciated. Thankfully my friend bought Catalan Cream in the same order I purchased these flavors. I didn't think I'd be interested but it sounds right up my alley.

I will use your recipe and try 5%. Even after almost 4 days steep time the FA RY4 seems mute. I may try as others had recommended Hangsen and INW. Also if you like custard and tobacco vapes you might want to try the Ripe Vapes VCT clone floating around. I bought the real deal a few weeks ago just to get a feel for a commercial tobacco type and fell in love. I only hope the recipe is close or at least a good starting point to the real deal.

I haven't used FAs ry4. But I've used a few of their other tobaccos. Try it by itself at 1, 2, and 3% to get a better feel for it. FA does a great job with their tobaccos and many have different notes at this ranges.

I've been doing TFA RY4 Double at 8% and TFA Caramel Original at 5% with a few others (MTS, etc) and after about 3 weeks of steeping the tobacco starts to really come together on the exhale. Try giving yours at least 2 weeks and see what you think. Working with tobaccos is the hardest as it takes the longest to tweak recipes.

I figured it would need a long steep time. Unfortunately I got to the point where I ran out of my usual flavors and just received my CyberMonday order which contains everything that requires steep time.

Lesson learned. I trust this flavor will round out. I suppose I didn't consider the steep time. And also I will need to always have something shake and vape worthy on hand.

Never used FA RY4. I use Vienna up to 1%. I've never gotten enough flavor out of FA Vanillas. I'm hooked on TFA Vanilla Bean Gelato and DIYFS Holy Vanilla when it comes to vanilla.

Yea, I usually don't turn to FA for tobacco flavors. TFA Ry4 would def make my list of top 5 flavorings though. In most of my blends I've found the magical percentage around 1.5% It's a good shake and vape but it takes around 2 weeks to develop its true flavor and 3 weeks total to hit peak flavor.

If you want quality tobaccos I'd stick to TFA (solely for ry4 and ry4double), hangsen, and inawera.

If you are shooting for a tobacco juice, I can tell you that ry4 by FA itself won't satisfy the tobacco aspect. It has never, for me, by itself. Letting it steep longer would be a bigger plus.

I don't think Vienna cream really contributes to this recipe; I would drop it.

I would recommend picking up some other Tobaccos to mix with the FA ry4. Flavor express ry4 is a great one to mix with it.

FA ry4 is almost identical to TFA ry4d in my opinion. A little stronger though. I get no tobacco and no caramel. Only maple.

I've never used FA RY4 but I used to use TFA's RY4 double quite a bit back in the day. Needs like a month of steeping if you really want it at its best. With these long steep time juices it's kinda best to make a few varieties and steep em like 2 weeks atleast then pick which one u like the most n work from there.

You could bump the vienna cream up to 1% if you want a bit more of that, it's in a few recipes I use at 1% so it wouldn't be too much.

Never used fa vanilla bourbon so I dunno bout that but if u want to see more just bump it up .5% or something. You could also try a rum flavoring plus some vanilla flavor you have/like.

The main thing I wanted to say though is that TFA RY4 double is great and 4oz costs 8 dollars you just need a wholesale account (which is free and easy to setup) at perfumersapprentice.com so if you run out of that FA RY4 or want to try another I would highly recommend that.

I've heard many good things about TFA RY4 double and will be adding it to a future order. I think I underestimated the steep time of these flavors. It wouldn't hurt to mix a few varieties and let them sit for a month.

Also I will let this one steep to determine if it needs more cream. So far everyone has confirmed this recipe is no where near maturity so I can't give it an honest critique at this time.
