I keep waiting for someone who wants this to be a recipe sub to just create one, and we can funnel traffic that way. I've thought about it myself, but frankly, I'm not interested and don't want to be the "owner" forever.
Hey guys.
r/diyjuicerecipes/ belongs to me.
it's been open for 6 months. Has some stuff. Been meaning to copy & paste some more stuff.
Feel free to contribute or whateva
Thanks, I will start posting here. Hopefully everyone also adds to http://e-liquid-recipes.com/
We really do need a recipe sub so that recipes are seen and discussed.
No matter how experiences some people are about mixing the newer mixers will still need to hear all the basics and ask whatever questions need asking.
Even the recipes on this sub end up archived, hence the reason to use the http://e-liquid-recipes.com/ site also.
I would say to just comment on the site, but it will never get seen by other users. The site just has way to much junk on it that no one is willing to sift through.
This would help good recipes get the proper rating on that site also.
There is so much junk and duplicate entries (for both recipes and flavors) on that site. I've been using it often and I really like it, but I wish it would get cleaned up a bit. Maybe they should give new recipes, let's say, one week to get some reviews. If a recipe doesn't get at least X amount of reviews, it should automatically be set as a private recipe.
Muahahaha, people will never get away from the Hand of MOD!
And just to fuck with him a bit, /u/notcharlesmanson
oh hey i finally did a fucking sidebar && a description for the campus sub.
Also added a few extra links to the sidebar, like FOTW & a "Have $100 and want to start mixing? Click here" links.
Pft, I can unmod you as fast as you can ban me c;
buahahahahahahahahha /u/notcharlesmanson
Looks like there's some work to be done adding content.
I didn't know about that sub, but thank you for posting because I checked it out and those recipes are very helpful. Much more helpful then most things posted on here. You gained a new subscriber! Hopefully other people will contribute.
Only a couple hand-fuls of people found out about it, based on subreddit traffic information. I only told one person about it. I never meant for it to be a thing, just a place for me to post shit, & I never really posted much because Life.
You're welcome, tho! Maybe it'll take off. We've gone from 14 subscribers to 121 subs since I posted it, 19 hours later.
I'm actually kind of OK with r/DIY_eJuice being a shit show even if that means people endlessly bitching about cyber bullying and obsessing over how to organize things. Let's just back to the damn mixing desk already.
Did I miss something this week?
past couple of weeks yes tho a couple of the more wack threads have been deleted. the war between ppl who dare to suggest following rules and entitled newcomers demanding something or other. the general trend of people showing up with hurt feelings indirectly calling people out or prophesying the death of this sub... when it's fine. wayyyyyy too many damn feelings happening.
honestly the monthly recipe contests do everything you need. its more important to get the insights from people discussing things in general.
The bad part is that the majority of people visiting the sub don't go down through the monthly discussing the flavor concentrates as much as I would like to see. You don't see hardly any opinions like you do on an actual post. Then there is the Clone Thread that doesn't see much activity also.
I visit several resources a day for recipes and flavor information. I am also getting tired of all the bickering on this sub. Too much Elitists vs. Newbie.
I agree, but apparently a lot of people just want to post their recipes to a main page. I think que's idea would allow them to fulfill their desires for notoriety and save this sub at the same time. I say definitely keep the monthly thread too for people with no interest in browsing another subreddit (like myself)
I read the post about the problem with recipes and considering there are several different sites that offer recipes then I also think having a recipe sub would be more work than it is worth. I suggest we continue to send people who are looking for recipes to e-liquid-recipes.com. They have the software already in place and even though there are a lot of bad recipes there, it also has lots of good one.
ELR is a dope site for sure, but your correct it has a lotta bad recipes. People seem to post whatever they mix, like they don't know the "public" box is checked or something. Literally 20+ of the same unicorn milk clone, but with different VG\PG ratio and Nic content. But it's an awesome site, and I still use it all the time (I'm kinda new though).
So if be down for a recipe sub is the recipe quality is more consistent. Sounds like a dumb thing to say, but it's to easy to post a recipe on ELR, lol. Maybe if people had to make a new post and type everything out it would weed out some of the obvious crappy non tested or tweaked mixes.
> Maybe if people had to make a new post and type everything out it would weed out some of the obvious crappy non tested or tweaked mixes.
It does not seem to. :)
I don't see it being a big job to down-vote posts that aren't well thought out. I do it all the time. It takes me about three seconds. If other people did it also then I wouldn't even have to click on but one fourth of the bad ones. Other users would have them down-voted already.
The problem is people are up-voting dumb shit and then complaining about a sub of dumb shit.
If it is too hard to click an arrow the proper direction then Rule 6 should just be changed to No Post under X amount of words.
We all need to rate whatever recipes we make. To help the ratings become more trustable. This will help us to know that a recipe is crap
Very true. I can say I have mixed a few and not rated them. Although I am new and letting stuff I mixed off there steep. We can't judge until at least 7 days minimum I think. Would be cool if the site had a setting that made you rate a mix 7 days after you made it. Of course the site wouldn't know you mixed it if you just read the screen and made the exact same nic and base ratio.
One other issue also is I'm not really sure which one to vote on when there like 5 of the exact same version posted. Guess I need to search the mix, select the first one posted by date, then rate it. That would also make the original creator get the higher rating.
