Even if you're not new, you may want to post this in the Weekly New Mixers thread that was just posted earlier. This is a good question and it'll likely help a lot of the people in there.
From my experience, I got better results when using PG based. Not only is it less troublesome than working with VG based (having to shake the fuck out of it due to hotspots, etc.), but I think it does help blend a little better in Max VG mixes, which is what most people use it for.
Also, the amount of nic you add is usually way less than the overall flavor percentage, so using 100mg/mL is going to be almost undetectable for people without a PG sensitivity.
the overall PG/VG ratio should have a larger effect on flavor perception but probably depends on the recipe, flavors, brand of nic, and personal preference etc. I'm a flavor junkie, but not a huge fan of throat hit so I might end up using more flavor to get what I want out of a mix that's mostly VG. concerning just the nic I think PG is easier to handle and tastes better to me and others. But I went from WL 100mg/mL VG nic to NN 100mg/mL PG nic so not sure if I'm the best judge in that regard.
