God I love DIY_eJuice, I've been on here every day and thought it's time to give something back (even if only small/has been done before).
I've been following labeling solutions for quite some time, and noticed one tread - it's not easy to find all the information you need in one place. Some offer Laser Printing, some offer Inkjet, Some offer weatherproof or expensive fancy label makers upwards of $2,000 for mid-range stuff.
I'm just a "home apprentice" dipping my toes in the water. I've got a inkjet printer and some free time - so I'll keep this quick, simple & cheap..
Here's the dealio:
- Have a Inkjet Printer
- Have a PC or MAC
- Buy some Avery Labels from Officeworks - Product number J8159.
- Sign up with Avery Design & Print online, it's all free!
- Make up some labels using your mad skills
- Follow instructions to print!
- Tell Damo & Darren to come over for a fog sesh and admire your hard work
Here is an example of my Label catalog
Here is an example of a few bottles Imgur 1, Imgur 2
I'm sure I've left out something along the lines, please feel free to chime in with feedback or questions (or delete if it's all been said and done before) Cheers all!
These look really good! As a side note, try these if you use glass bottles. No sticky residue whatsoever and they don't "roll" like the paper ones do.
So, just peel and replace with a new one? No more goo gone and scrubbing to remove the residue? Did you just save me so much time and the dread of cleaning my bottles?
Yesssss. I thought it was going to be too good to be true but when I clean my bottles, I literally just peel off the old label, wash, mix, wipe down the bottle with an alcohol pad, let it dry for a second and stick the new one on. No scraping away gummy paper with a knife, no Goo-Gone, no shredded paper from friction in my pocket, no unwanted peeling corners..nothing. It's like they made those labels just for us lazy fuckheads.
Thanks for this, these look perfect. The regular ones are annoying as hell to remove
No problem. I got tired of my hands smelling like Goo-Gone. They should have these at any Walmart.
Do they work with plastic also?
I'm just looking for something to keep me organized rather than use them for selling.
This is great! The ol small piece of line paper taped with scotch tape was getting old for me. Thanks for the info. I'll be trying this out soon!
That's exactly what I do now...
Just to quickly clarify some bits
- Great for vape-then-throw-away mixes. Cant peel these buggers off bottles easily
- You can use a ballpoint pen on these to fill in VG/PG etc
- If your looking to print out a sheet and fill it out manually, feel free to use this as inspiration
I dont yet know how to share my Avery labels, but if anyone needs help please ask!
Can you tell me what's the font you're using?
The fonts called "Pasifico" its in-built to the Avery design app. I've used 2 text layers (one in white, the background in color) to create a the shadow effect Example. I got the font inspiration from One-on-one flavors ;)
yeah, I'm an Illustrator user, so I know the pain of having to use 2 layer to make the shadow/stroke effect.
Anyway, thanks for your answer!
Banana Paddlepop? Is that somewhat inspired by my recipe? :P
Yup! Sure is buddy, +1 rep for the aussies ;D Like the label?
>* Make up some labels using your mad skills
this should be used by every marketing department ever. I am an e-juice manufacturer with a very nice label printer...that right there made me almost want to try this method hahaha xD
maaaaaaate, I think you know you have those mad skills already... mad skills pay those bills, 'cuz fancy printers don't come cheap ;D
Some kind stranger guides me through GIMP & Linux and you'll both get gold (just check my profile). [edit] both!
I use GIMP and Linux, but I just bought a thermal printer, Brother QL-700. The off brand DK1208 labels are the perfect size for juice labels. Brother provides drivers for LPR and a CUPS wrapper.
In the long run, this is way cheaper than the Avery method($9 for 400 labels vs $25 for 600 labels), and no ink or toner to replace. Only downside is that the labels will all be in black and white.
But if you really want to use this Avery method, GIMP has a plugin specifically for this. http://registry.gimp.org/node/132

Awsome.
I'm only a bit sad that the Brother QL-700 costs 3 times the US price in Europe, I'll have a look on eBay if I can find a cheaper one.
Meanwhile I've made my own summary to have all at hand (Gimp Templates + Samples from /u/BeardyBrah). https://www.evernote.com/shard/s216/sh/9bc5984b-0f09-4201-999c-2881796bc9fd/453d38632cb3261c8fabef4a2b5fb7b5
/u/BeardyBrah : could you share the background images only? they are awsome and I'd like to use some of them to add some more info (VG/PG ratio, Dosage, DOB) :)
Wow, that's an absurd markup on the QL-700. It's worth every penny of $50-$60 USD, but I probably wouldn't pay much more than that if I'm just using it for juice labels.
Thanks for the gold, but I was just trying to help another Linux user out. We brothers need to stick together.
Looks really good, but with the pre cut labels i always run in the problem, that it never prints in the right format. So 1 label which is slightly off, can trash up to 8 labels... This is really driving me bonkers. Allthough i used the software from avery to print on and also tried the word templates. Both are not correct for my avery labels :(
Been away for 4 days - cool to see the thread still being discussed :)
AND
To Mr. or Mrs. Annon who gave me gold for my first ever Reddit thread submission, Thank you so much!! It's really great to be a part of this community - and that was icing on the cake. Have a great christmas!
Well, I was considering making my own labels as the pre-made ones I purchased were not ideal. I also needed some more directions and say I would gild both. Now you can help me again by sharing your awsome background pics =)
Thank you kind sir! Unfortunately, I don't have an image library to share - I literally just google imaged the food item descriptions, changed search criteria to 'Large sizes only' and browsed through and picked whatever was most visually appealing.
