Howdy folks! I'm a little overdue on this one because I ran into some issues and have been super busy with work, mixing, holidays, and all the other generic excuses. Today, I bring you the second round of my tasting notes from the Flavorah flavors I ordered a month or so ago.
Miss part 1? Find it here!
As a reminder, I consider my palette awful, compared to some of you, so YMMV and as always, ^taste^is^subjective!
Flavors tested in a 30 PG / 70 VG mix. Dual fused clapton coils, 2 24g Nichrome80 claptoned with 36g Kanthal, .11 ohm at 90 - 100watts.
Each flavor mixed in a 10ml batch and vaped in its entirety, to make sure I get a good feel of the flavors.
###Crunch Cereal @ 3% > After falling in love with Cinnamon Crunch, I had HUGE expectations for this flavor. Unfortunately, this flavor doesn’t do it for me, at least not as a single flavor vape. To me, it’s a cross between the old Corn Pops cereal and a Captain Crunch without the berry notes. It’s bland and it doesn’t quite do it for me. Perhaps it could shine as a background note to FA Meringue and various fruit flavors but as a standalone it’s very bland. There’s a slight cream aspect to it, somewhere in the background to provide a distinct cereal taste but it honestly just tastes like a toned down Acetyl Pyrazine with some cream added to it. This one did steep for 2 weeks before I tapped into it, so the cream note may have not been as prevalent when it was fresh – unfortunately, I didn’t try it fresh so I can’t comment on that.
###Milk & Honey @ 3% > I think my nose is starting to play tricks on me. I mixed all these up and never labeled them but kept them in the same order (in a line) as I have my flavors stocked in my flavor cabinet. Not knowing what flavor it was, I uncapped this and took a whiff and thought it was Peanut Butter. After checking my flavor cabinet, I realized it was actually Milk and Honey, peculiar. Anyways, re-wicked my atty and took a couple of draws and couldn’t quite figure it out – I didn’t taste any real ‘milk’ flavor but I could certainly make out the honey portion. After getting about 2-3ml’s through it, I finally figured out how to describe this flavor in words. Imagine a bowl of honey nut Cheerio’s that have sat in a bowl of milk. Now dump out the milk and eat the Cheerio’s. That’s the best way I can describe this. It’s incredibly sweet but not in a bad way, after all it is a honey flavor! Certainly a very viable stand-alone flavor but the honey is almost too much. Perhaps at lower percentages, it might not come off as so strong. I did let this one steep 2 ½ weeks before tapping into it. It’s a good flavor to pair with other creams and/or bakery type flavors that need a little honey-esque sweetening. Not sure if it would work with bright fruits but again, everyone has their own preferences. I want to revisit this at 1% at some point. **Update, after vaping ~7ml of this I started picking up on some creamy milk base in the background, 3% may still be too strong but it’s a damn good standalone vape
###Mocha @ 3% > Ah, the never-ending search for a good coffee vape. I ordered this instead of FLV’s Coffee because Coffee was out of stock. Unfortunately, I don’t find this flavor appealing. Instead, I vaped about 6ml of it, couldn’t take it anymore and put it away. I’m a huge coffee drinker and I have a mini-starbucks setup in my kitchen so I know it’s not that I dislike coffee. Sadly, I think that I’d rather drink coffee than vape it. The vape itself does have a very distinct coffee smell and taste and it’s got a nice creamy feel to it. However, it’s lacking something, perhaps it’s because I always add vanilla, caramel, or some type of creamer to my coffees. I’d revisit this with some of those flavors added in and tone back the coffee to 1-2% but as a standalone I’m not impressed. The first of Flavorah flavors to disappoint me but I won’t point the finger at Flavorah; I think this is just a case of, “it’s just not for me.” So there you have it, it smells and tastes like coffee should but I’d recommend pairing it with another flavor such as caramel, vanilla, or even butterscotch. This does NOT have the burnt coffee bean flavor that a lot of other coffee vapes tend to have. This steeped for ~3 weeks before I touched it.
###Peanut Butter @ 3% > Let me preface this by saying I’ve tried a lot of different peanut butter flavors: TFA, FW, and CAP. FW and CAP both give me too much of a peanut taste that makes me feel like I’m vaping peanuts and not peanut butter. TFA was always my go-to when I was trying to get a realistic peanut butter vape. It had a slight creamy aspect to it that really matched the taste of peanut butter and not peanuts. Unfortunately, with TFA Peanut Butter, I always had to add a little marshmallow and lemon juice to really make it shine. Flavorah, however, hits the nail on the head with this flavor! It’s smooth and creamy, with enough peanut flavor to really bring you that peanut butter taste. It did steep for 3 weeks, which might explain why the cream or ‘butter’ aspect really sticks out to me. On some hits, the peanut flavor does come out a little more so I’d have to say it’s closer to ‘chunky’ peanut butter than regular but it’s still fantastic! If you’re looking for a peanut butter flavor that actually suits the profile of peanut butter and not peanuts, get this – NOW! I’m in love, now to play around with some bananas and jam type flavors. To add, 3% is a fantastic standalone (with a steep) but you’ll definitely need to dial it back if you plan on using it in a mix as it is incredibly strong. 0.5% to 1.5% in a mix, I’d say.
So something happened on the next 3 flavors. I had Strawberry, Tropical Punch, and Watermelon left. Unfortunately, I got extremely drunk one night and vaped through them all and left absolutely no notes. (sigh) So I remixed them (at 4% each) and re-attempted the tasting notes.
###Strawberry @ 4%
> This is strange. This flavor is unlike any other strawberry you’ve vaped before. It doesn’t have that artificial strawberry candy flavor that I get from TFA Strawberry or CAP Sweet Strawberry nor do I get an authentic strawberry flavor like I get from TFA Strawberry Ripe. Instead, I get this flavor that’s oddly reminiscent of strawberry or jelly or jam. Funny how this flavor lands right after I wrote notes about pairing FLV Peanut Butter with a jam/ jelly flavor. It literally tastes like I just stuck a bunch of jelly/jam on a spoon and devoured it. It doesn’t have any strong sweet notes that some of Flavorah’s flavors seem to have. Instead it’s this really rich and creamy? strawberry jelly. I’m a huge fan of strawberries but there’s something about this one that strikes a really unusual chord with me. Perhaps it’s just not a very good standalone. I could definitely see this one being used with a variety of creams to give a strawberry milk flavor. Or hell, you could even pair with some peanut butter, banana, and some sort of bready flavor and you’ve got yourself the best damn PB&J sandwich with bananas. The possibilities are there for this flavor, I just don’t see it working on its own.
###Tropical Punch @ 4% > I can see where this flavor gets its name from. Inhale has a tart yet sweet citrus taste while the exhale bombards me with various citrus flavors. I can’t quite pick out what citric fruits are in this but there’s certainly some orange, maybe some pineapple, perhaps guava or grapefruit. I just can’t place my finger on it, there’s so much going on in this one flavor. While it does make for a decent standalone, it could probably work better with some additional drink and/or fruit flavors. Strawberry, lemonade, dark berries. Add in a touch of TFA Champagne and you have yourself a pretty decent citrus soda. I wouldn’t consider this an all day vape as a standalone but that’s only because I like my complex vapes. However, with some added fruits and bumping up the percentage (to 5%) you may end up with a delicious citrus berry punch. An interesting flavor and I’ll certainly be playing around with this one!
###Watermelon @ 4% > I’m really not sure how to feel about this flavor. Flavorah says this is a “traditional candy watermelon” but I’ll be honest, I’m not getting a candied watermelon at all. Instead, I’m getting a very ‘green’ flavor. To best explain this, I suppose it’d be easier to imagine what the pink / white portion of a watermelon tastes like at the very bottom where it meets the green exterior (unsure of the actual term for it). In fact, this seems to be the weakest Flavorah flavor I’ve had; for almost every other flavor I’ve tried so far, 3% has either been relatively close or too high but for this I’d be tempted to try it at 10% just to see if that ‘candy watermelon’ starts to show more. I was hoping to be able to use this in a Watermelon / Menthol mix but I think I may end up having to find a different watermelon instead. Try this at a higher percentage or with other watermelon flavors mixed in to support it.
##Phew, now I can finally vape through a couple 100ml's of blends before I start trying to come up with recipes incorporating these flavors.
I had a lot of fun doing this and keeping track of my notes, to share. I do plan on ordering a few more flavors from Flavorah for tasting notes but I can't make any promises when I'll be able to get around to it. That being said, if there's a flavor you want my opinion on, let me know and I'll add it to my list!
I very very rarely read reviews because the overwhelming majority of them are just over the top and the product is the best ever and can do no wrong.
THANK YOU for being real and calling it just like you see it , it's refreshing and honesty whether good or bad is always more helpful than bullshit.
Everyone's tastes are different but I agree with you. There's a lot of flavors that numerous people rave about TFA VBIC and FA Espresso being just two of many that I can't stand at all. There's no point in misleading people, if I don't like it then I don't like it, that simple. Though I don't want to steer people away from a flavor because I disliked it, I'd always recommend trying it yourself.
I will say this, out of all of the flavoring manufacturers I've tried, Flavorah is the most consistent and has a higher percentage of good flavors v.s. bad flavors (that I've tested).
Your comment ( if I don't like it then I don't like it) is what makes you so valuable as a reviewer .
The overwhelming majority of reviewers seem to have a very difficult time telling it exactly as they see it.
If reviewers can't do that then they have no business reviewing stuff because people expect "honesty" and that means telling the negatives as well as positives.
I'm impressed with your approach and i hope you stay that way.
Don't you get chocolate/coffee notes from the milk&honey ? I definitely do. It's a good standalone and I think it can work its way into lots of recipes.
Peanut Butter to me was not very creamy but I never gave it a chance to age three weeks. I use it to back up TFA PB to enhance the peanut, works beautifully.
I didn't get any chocolate/ coffee notes from it personally, though it definitely didn't smell like "milk and honey" before I vaped it. It was a really hard flavor to figure out and I didn't feel comfortable with it until I got 7ml through the 10ml bottle.
came here to ask if you got any coco from M+H , i got a definate choco taste to it at 3% up , as you say it is a complex flavour to try figure out , btw many thanks for the notes , much appreciated
Awesome post! The only one of these flavors I have any experience with is the Watermelon. I paired it with LA Watermelon Clear, some FLV Wild Melon, and some INW Grapefruit to make a great Grapefruit Melon Cooler (Menthol+Koolada). Don't count it out, its really good for the use you want it for IMHO.
Great stuff, really interested in that PB.
FLV Watermelon is so disappointing to me. I can see where it would be useful to enhance other watermelons but on its own its.. just weird. It tastes like watermelon rind but smells just like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. I was so excited when I first got it.
I agree with the PB to an extent, however all my mixes (PB&J), I tend to notice way too much complexity after a very long steep. I'll most likely drop the FLV PB some and add more TFA, I urge you to still use some TFA PB in yours. As for strawberry, that's what I used in my PB&J, PERFECT strawberry jam flavor and I thank you for the strawberry milk idea as I plan to try it at 3% with 1% Ripe, 1% Shisha, and 1% TFA with a but of sweet cream, marshmallow, and FW VBIC to make a strawberry milkshake. As for milk and honey, I'm lost and I find it too confusing to use in a mix. Perhaps even in a chocolate mix? I'm getting minor chocolate notes from it, and as backwards as it may be, I think it would add authenticity to my FA choc/cocoa in my twix Candy juice. Thank you so much for this review. I love my FLV flavors!
Care to share that Twix recipe? Havent had much success with the FA chocolates
here is the recipe %s are to the right of the flavor name, and here's the recipe to creamstone, but I think you'd be fine with a drop of sweet cream (TFA/cap)/10ML, creamstone is just my goto cream. It's matured into a good by now.
I've noticed that Peanut Butter tends to overshadow everything in a mix with a steep. I assume FLV will suffer from this as well but I haven't had a chance to play around with it beyond my initial tasting notes.
How can I make a PB banana without that happening?????
I wanna try milk&honey with FA Tiramisu to see what happens. It should work well with coffee/chocolate flavors. I'm also thinking Black Tea/Bavarian Cream/Milk&Honey might work but I haven't bought a black tea flavoring yet.
Thanks for posting this. It's funny, I was so excited to get FLV PB. TFA and CAP PB were on my very first DIY order and I didn't like them because I was looking for something creamier (and was also mixing them too strong). When I got FLV PB I tried it fresh and it was all peanut no butter. I tried creaming it up but ended up liking TFA better once I learned how to use it. I didn't think to set the FLV aside for a couple weeks and see what happened. Thank you.
When I tested it, some hits definitely had a more defined "peanut skin" taste to it than others. It was really odd as it wasn't the same vape throughout, even though it steeped for a while. Like I mentioned, if you're looking to get more of the cream portion, I'd probably stick around 1% and add some TFA Toasted Marshmallow and your preferred cream (CAP Sweet Cream for me)
Loved part one and two
Reading on my tablet and since you took quite a bit of time giving a full descrpription my battery is low ... loved allnof both posts one suggestion part 1 had the 1-10 rating part two it was missing ...those are always nice imo.
Thanks for taking the time to revirw all this.
