When I make fruit e juices, they have a lot of throat hit. I'm using mainly Capella with some TFA flavors. Here's an example of what I'm vaping now and it has a throat hit. This is an extremely basic recipe as I was trying to eliminate what was causing it.
8% Capella blueberry 5% Capella sweet cream 2% cotton candy
3mg nicotine The remainder is VG
Any help would be appreciated.
Try your nic in VG. Most likely cause in most cases. Search you will find loads of info on recipes or flavours that cause too much throat hit. It is smart to know going in when you use one of them.
I almost hope that's not the answer since I just bought 120ml of 100mg/ml of nicotine lol.
Fear is my bag baby :) (my name is gaelic, it means man). You have to try it as those other flavours may be high and may need to cast off some nasty volatiles but, I doubt it is the flavour % or the flavours themselves. Usual suspects and all, test the nic in plain vg/pg base.
I have Nic in VG, and I still get too much throat.
I think its something down to ingredients, and haven't figured it out.
Too little flavour, and its all VG taste. Seems like the right amount of flavour means a throaty hit.
It's either nicotine or ethyl alcohol from your flavors.
If its not a nicotine thing, how likely is it to be an alcohol thing?
Even with a single/two flavour mix (mostly TFA), and its still too throaty, is it a 'wait for a couple days with the cap off' kinda thing? and then they smooth out?
This is something that I have struggled with. I have a nice flavour, but too much throat. If I lower the flavour, I get mostly VG flavour coming through.
Maybe It's my nic, but I store it in 10ml bottles in my freezer. And use 1 when I need it. But it might be bad from the supplier. I'm pretty new to this.

But I have made some very smooth mixes... often with things like TFA Marshmallow & FA Meringue.
Do these flavours smooth bad nic?
Just try your nic in plain vg or plain base. We could speculate all day. Scientific method. If it is bad get new stock. Wasting flavours to cover the bad nic is bad form and just silly. Edit: if there is alcohol in the flavours a short breathing period(during the short heat steep) only or risk losing the flavour as they evaporate as well.
It could be youre nicotine so definitely try a batch with no nic. I personally find Capella's blueberry to be harsh and tastes watered down. I would suggest trying FW blueberry or a different fruit flavor. Are there any other specific recipes that taste harsh?

TFA Mango? Yeah I think it would definitely be harsh as single flavor at 10%. Capellas sweet mango is a solid single flavor though. A lot of fruit flavors just arent good by themselves because theyre light, but adding more flavoring so you can taste it can make it harsh. If its not your nicotine it might just be the flavors your'e using arent the best for dominant or single flavor mixes.
does your nic smell a bit like wet dog?
edit: haha, yeah, I know it sounds silly. But if the nic has a slight "wet dog" smell to it, it is almost certainly oxidized and will give you that unpleasant peppery hit. Also, higher concentrations of nic (especially in max vg) will oxidize faster so this could be your problem.
