Taming FLV Pink Guava - Pink Panther
submitted almost 10 years ago by Botboy141Gunner's Gold Gourmet E-Juice

As the title says.

It's pretty unanimously agreed that FLV Pink Guava is an absolutely amazing flavor. It's also unanimously agreed that's it's virtually impossible to work with other flavors as it is just so overwhelmingly dominant.

Well, personally, being a huge fan of FLV Pink Guava with a little EM, that wasn't much of a problem for me the last few months. Recently though, I realized I wanted more.

I wanted FLV Pink Guava to remain as the forefront note in a recipe that I'm able to offer to my customers, but at the same time, i felt it needed to be tamed as well as to work with a few other flavors that would play off it extremely well.

Some of you may have seen me mentioning using FLV Lychee combined with FLV Pink Guava in the past. This was definitely the first step in delivering the below recipe to you. This was actually a really simple portion of the recipe as it's an easy 2 to 1 ratio of pink guava to lychee to keep them in line with each other, with pink guava remaining at the forefront but not being completely overpowered.

From there, well, what's next? I must have tried virtually every fruit I can think of, be it Lime, Kiwi, Dragonfruit, Mango, Coconut, etc. but nothing was really hitting home for me. Then I realized, why not make FLV Pink Guava more of what it says it is (when in reality it's more grapefruit than guava like), so I began playing with TFA Guava. As juicy and lovely as TFA Guava can be it just wasn't working. I went back to my old ways (and one of my favorite guavas for a complex recipe) and decided to utilize LA Guava here and it worked wonders using it at an even ration to FLV Pink Guava. It's not super prominent but it's present enough and adjusts the flavor of the FLV Pink Guava enough to really reel it in and turn it into something that you can enjoy.

After working with a few variations of that over a couple of weeks, I decided I really liked where it was but still wanted more. I went directly to one of my personal favorite flavors of all time, but one I don't typically utilize as a back up flavor due to it's strength. I pulled out the INW Raspberry (Malina) Concentrate. Using this at 1/6th of the Pink Guava and Guava adds a nice suble candy like background with a splash of the raspberry goodness that is INW Raspberry.

It still wasn't quite perfect but now I was honing in on what I wanted. After trying EM at a few different ratios, I realized that's not really what I wanted for this juice. It's relatively sweet on it's own but the EM was just muting the crap out of everything. I toyed around a little with some Sucralose and while yummy, I've been trying to avoid Sucralose and EM recently as one of my distributors wants me developing more juices free of extra sweeteners.

I decided to try a splash of Koolada, and BINGO. We've hit the gin card. I've finally dialed it in.

Ladies and Gentlemen, today I'm proud to present to you one of my simplest creations to date, and one that I am hands down the most proud of. Unlike many of my other creations that once they hit the BINGO stage they go direct to my site for sale, instead, this one is being released to you all first as a personal apology for me being such a slacker as a mod lately.

I'm sure I'll sell it eventually (but not in concentrate form as shit is just too expensive). I hope everyone enjoys.

Pink Panther (final)
3% FLV Pink Guava
1.5% FLV Lychee
0.5% INW Raspberry (Malina) Concentrate
3% LA Guava
0.25% TFA Koolada

I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving!

He's Back! Hey everybody, the Botboy is back!!!

Hope all is well with the new addition, and glad to see you are back in the mixing game. ONCE AGAIN YOU SOB YOU ARE MAKING ME BUY A NEW FLAVOR. Can I sub anything for the INW Raspberry, or is that another "key ingredient" that can't be substituted? I have FLV, LA, TFA, and FA, just not INW.

So why is this not breaking the rules? Because he wrote 10 paragraphs to go with it? I'm not hating, batboy is a great guy who helps a lot. But I don't see why he is getting praised for his recipe while my recipe was torn apart by you guys for not being in the monthly recipe thread.

That's exactly why. Because there are flavor notes, and details on the process and it merits its own post.

Yeah, it's more about the development notes and flavor profile notes than just a recipe. Your post included some of that, so I left it alone - but also because I don't want to discourage newer mixers. I appreciate you moving it to the thread though.

Haha, you're my guardian angel, answering my Pink Guava prayers, man! Still don't have FLV Lychee, though, so I'll save your post and try this when I get some. Great notes.

On the flip side you can throw in FA Grapefruit and make it more grapefruit like, had some fun doing that recently.

I tried FA Citrus Mix (primarily grapefruit with a bit of orange and hints of lemon/lime). I didn't try grapefruit by itself though come to think of it. Might actually have to play with that some in another variation.

I think this would be fun to make -

http://kristineskitchenblog.com/2015/04/21/grapefruit-ricotta-cake-with-cream-cheese-frosting/

Combination of FLV Pink Guava, hint of FA Grapefruit for zest, CAP NY Cheesecake, FW Yellow Cake, little bit of custard for body and vanilla note. Little CAP Buttercream for sweetness/frosting and mouth feel.

Something lighter I'd probably do would be a sorbet/ice cream.

Could be good except I hate FW Yellow Cake unless you stay @ like 20w

I've found FLV Pink Guava to mix fantastically well with a lot of tropical fruit flavors. It tends to add bitter notes to them, but pineapple, lychee, mango, tangerine, pineapple and peach all mix really well with it, and the pink guava doesn't overshadow it what so ever. I really recommend tropical flavors if you're trying to reduce the impact that pink guava is having.

I tried something like this but I found Lychee to really be something I couldn't nail down. CAP Golden pineapple and flv lime was my attempt but at 1% lychee takes over. I have FLV guava and I know that's a pretty solid front note in mixes. Looks good, I'll have to mix up soon.

/u/Botboy141 - I was wondering if you might think a low percentage of FLV Pink Guava & INW Raspberry had any kind of Fruity Pebbles/Loops taste to it.

if you were to add that to say some FA Bergmont / FA Orange.

With a Milk as the main flavor note,

Maybe even a Pineapple .. "Not sure which pineapple is more tropical and less candy"

Not Pink Guava. A hint of that note exists in INW Raspberry but even that's not dead on.

I absolutely hate this flavor. Tastes like nasty sour grapefruit IMO. I bought it because of /u/botboy141 raving review of it. Now it's just off in some drawer. Worst $7 spent. Ever :/

You are in the minority.

Everyone's tastes are different though.

Well I mean... that's more or less what guava actually tastes like haha. Do you like fresh guava?

I freaking love this flavor stand alone at 3% with 2 drops of sweetener per 10ml. I had an "Ah Ha" moment today. I vaped a tank of this today and when it was done I put in my peach tea with the few drops that of the guava that was left. I couldn't believe how much the peach was coming out. I don't know if it's because I had used bakers flavors peach or if it was the little bit of guava that really made it pop. Just a though! I'm definitely going to play around with this now!
