Some time ago I was bored with my regular recipes so I decided to play with some flavors I don't normally use. The following recipe was born:
Pear Type
French Vanilla (cap) 2%
Honey Clover (la) 1%
Marzipan (fa) 2%
Pear (tpa) 6%
The flavor was nothing like what I expected. The Pear was obviously supposed to be the main flavor note, with the honey to sweeten. That didn't happen. The two flavors combined to create a fruity, floral flavor that tasted neither of pear or honey.
The marzipan would in theory add a slight sweet nuttiness. Which it did to an extent.
Finally the French vanilla, to act as a blender, really only seemed to lighten the mix.
Overall it wasn't bad, just nothing like I expected. Next time, if there is one, I might use fa almond instead of marzipan.
All that said what experiences have you all had making/mistakenly making unique flavors/recipes? Please, for the sake of everyone being able to learn from one another, include some information about why, or how you came to make such a different recipe.
My most unique would be my INSIFIOT, it was an attempt at reverse engineering Orphan's Tears just on anecdotal evidence and a comment someone made here. It was interesting because it introduce me to adding a hint of cinnamon to non-bakery fruits, like strawberry and kiwi.
- 10% TFA Straw Ripe
- 5% TFA Kiwi Double
- 5% CAP VC1
- 1% TFA Cinnamon Danish
It's good as a shake and vape, but if you really want something delicious, let it steep for 2-3 weeks and let the cinnamon steep into the fruits. Really interesting flavor profile, and a juice that I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing.
BTW INSIFIOT stands for I'm not sure if it's Orphan's Tears.
You're gonna make me go cinnamon crazy the next time I put a flavor order in haha.
Cinnamon is just a really great flavor that doesn't get enough play in the premium market.
Kirk and I were collaborating on this, he ultimately ended up with my original bottle of Orphan Tears and attempted to clone it. Promised it would be done months ago, at least an attempted recipe. Claimed it was close, but didn't want to give up a recipe. Asked for my bottle back, he said he would send it with the recipe he came up with so far. Haven't heard from him since.
This recipe is definitely not orphan tears, but it's good nonetheless.
If you could, what seems to be off, or missing with it?
TFA Peanut Butter - 3% TFA Watermelon- 6%
Two great tastes that taste ~~great~~ rank together?
My most interesting has probably been my attempt at a lemon bar sort of thing I was trying out when I got INW Lemon Concentrate. Spoiler alert: it was fucking terrible. However, if you like the sound of lemon popcorn, here ya go!
Ingredient|% :---|---: Biscuit (INAWERA)|0.5 Graham Cracker (Clear) (TPA)|4 Italian Cream (Hangsen)|2.5 Lemon concentrate (INAWERA Flavours">INW)|0.3 Meringue (FA)|1 Sweet Cream (TPA)|1.5
Flavor total: 9.8%
This shit sounds delicious, now to order these lemons! Haven't tried either of these two.
It's just INW Lemon Concentrate. Don't mix this recipe, though. It sounded good in theory and tasted amazing the first day. After that, it turned buttery and lemony. It was literally like you squirted lemon juice on popcorn. On the plus side, take out the lemon and you have a spot on popcorn after a few days haha
Pecan pie. I naively bought 30ml tfa pecan thinking I was going to be the first to make quite possibly my favorite dessert ever.
All different %
Tfa pecan
Cap tfa fa caramels
Tfa brown sugar
Tfa pie crust
Diff sweetners
Tres leches
All the creams
I must have wasted a couple hundred mls of base before admitting defeat. That was in my early days, when I was too impatient to try my flavors standalone. If I had done so, I would have known that you cant do shit with pecan.
I literally just got a bottle of tfa pecan yesterday that I was looking forward to trying out. Damn. Was planning on mixing with peanut butter and hazelnut though, any recommendations?
Hey try it yourself, you may like it. The only recommendation I'll give is try it at 3% standalone. To me I didnt even get a nutty taste, just kinda...something.
Everyones palate really is different. For example I was excited when I bought fa biberry, because I see it so often mentioned. But I cant stand it....
I am interested to see what you think of it!
Have you found any good "nutty" type flavoring? I tried Pecan in a mix and it tasted way too sweet and artificial even at low %. I think some type of nut (almond, pecan, etc) would be a nice touch and something I'd want to try in a few recipes but not sure if there are any good options.
Do you have a recommendation for a pecan? I've been liking for a good one also. Fyi la pecan sucks.
Not sure if it counts as unusual but I haven't seen many recipes with FA's Jaggerbomb so here's my attempt to recreate my current favourite tipple in vape form.
Despite the name, I don't really get any Red Bull type flavour from FA Jaggerbomb. Side by side, it's pretty close but I think the Cinnamon can be upped a little.
Ingredient|% :---|---: Cinnamon Ceylon (FA)|1 JaggerBomb FA|4 Madagascar (Vanilla Classic) (FA)|2 Super Sweet (CAP)|0.25
Flavor total: 7.25%

Tried a different take on Key Lime Pie. I had an order of some obscure flavors come in and I was really excited to try something new. It came out really floral and the bergamot totally took over. I'm new to diy so I'll chalk this up to a learning experience.
Bavarian Cream (TPA) 2%
Bergamot (FA) 2.5%
Graham Cracker (CAP) 2%
Key Lime (TPA) 3.5%
Whipped Cream (TPA) 2%
That's a lot of bergamot haha that stuff is pretty stout! This looks really interesting though I actually like the idea of adding bergamot to a key lime pie flavor. I might have to try this and dial down the percentages. Have you tried FA's whipped cream? It doesnt get a lot of love around here but to me it blows TFA's version out of the water! Thanks for the strange recipe though I definitely enjoy seeing these creative combinations
I didn't get TFA whipped cream because it had a safety warning. Didn't look to see what was in it, but decided against it. I think I'll take the bergamot down to .5% and probably go back to TFA graham cracker crust.
I like the idea of this recipe. I recently bought Ripe Vapes -VCT and love it. Anyway I know they make a flavor called Pear Almond which uses Marzipan. I'm going to create this profile without even trying the original but I fully intend to use FA Almond with TFA Amaretto. Amaretto gives a good marzipan flavor and the almond will boost the flavor as a whole. Something to consider.
