I have recently started working at diy ejuice, so I get to sniff pretty much every flavour available. I decided to myself that I am going to make a chocolate mint.
Now the thing is, I fucking hate mint flavours. and chocolates are the most difficult thing to nail down. I knew this was going to be a tough bastard, but I also realised if I make the chocolate good enough, the mint will cover what the chocolate is missing. I decided that after 8 is the profile Im after...
first recipe
Cap Double Chocolate 1
Cap Chocolate Fudge brownie 1
TFA Cocoa Rounds 1
Cap Cool Mint 1
INW Natural Mint 1
My god, I put too much goddamn mint in there. It was everything I hate about a vape and was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooo minty. I wasn't about to take out both of those mints however. I smelled those mints, and I knew that they were the exact style of mint I was going for in a mint chocolate. I quickly made another batch, knowing that the chocolate was perfect. At this point only the mint needed tweaking.
Cap Double Chocolate 1
Cap Chocolate Fudge Brownie 1
TFA Cocoa Rounds 1
Cap Cool Mint .5
INW Natural Mint .5
I gave this a hot water bath and vaped it. My god, the mint is perfect! The chocolate is noticeable but just slightly overpowered by the mint, but in a good way. The mint carries the chocolate and lets it be a really good supporting role. I have found an excellent chocolate base. The only issue is... this isn't an after 8. An after 8 has a bit more chocolately flavour. I realised what I made was a spot on yorker peppermint patty. Great for breakfast and when you want a cool flavour in your mouth. my god, its like eating it.
This recipe was a lesson. First lesson is that you can go super low on percentages and still get a tonne of flavour. This was also a lesson that trying to nail the flavour profile is all good, but sometimes you can emulate the opposite of what you're going after.
Enjoy my friends :)
I made a York for my brother the other day. You got to try FLV Creme de Menthe its very good in a recipe like this.
In any case good notes and not bad for just getting starting. You are approaching mixing the right way, thanks for sharing :)
I've heard some good things about MF's dark chocolate flavor I'd probably look into that + creme de menthe for an after 8. Add throw in a little vanilla and hint of cream/milk type note to smooth it out as well.
I've been mixing for a good six months now. It wasn't until this job that I really found myself actually mixing well. Sniffing each flavour, testing them out based on what I want them to do versus what I can make them do. I had to stop selling because my stuff just doesn't compare to what I make now :) Thanks though :D
I kinda wish that I knew DIY was hiring :P
You located in Abby?
Yup!
Cool man! I have a crazy work schedule, but if you wanna swap juice/recipes sometime (although I don't have many) I'd be willing to do so :)
