I can't seem to find something like this. Anyone has stumbled upon a vaping version?
There is this company : Missions or Misiones (not sure now and too lazy to go back to check) that have many interesting flavours but they were adamant that they were not intended to be vaped. Anyone know about these guys?
Never heard of this company. But AFAIK "accurate" rice flavors for vaping aren't really available.. and workarounds are pretty damn hard to get right if at all possible. Sushi rice is a bit bland and doesn't have much of an obvious flavor. But rice in general is somewhere between 'nutty' and popcorn-ish. So I'd start by trying a nut flavor that isn't obvious like FA Walnut of TFA Toasted Almond (vs. something more distinct like Pistachio or Hazelnut). And combining that with a popcorn (but not buttered popcorn) type flavor like TFA Kettle Corn? It could be fairly hard to get the ratios right though. I'm still chasing it... Rice pudding can more or less be faked because if you've ever had rice pudding it's just super sweet vanilla pudding mostly with the texture of rice and maybe hints of it's nuttiness but the rice flavor isn't really upfront at all.
I've seen that Vape Kitchen & Craft Vapery have Mango Sticky Rice flavors, so it must be somewhere and somewhat readily available in bulk.
Mango Sticky Rice is more of an aromatic rice and no it's not readily available in bulk. Whatever they mixed up is likely made from components that give the impression of sticky rice vs some kind of 'rice flavor'. For example, HIC has a mango sticky rice flavor that consists of kettle corn, walnut, sweet woodruff, and cardamom for the rice base. Aromatic rices are probably easier to do than 'Sushi Rice' but even then most recipes I've come across leave something to be desired.
If anyone's interested in trying out aromatic rice flavor HIC has a mango sticky rice flavor. I won't reveal the entire recipe as he sells it online but the ingredients that form the "rice base" are as follows:
1% TFA Kettle Corn
1% TFA Sweet Woodruff
0.5% FA Walnut
0.25% FA Cardamom
tbh I haven't got much mileage out of this combination. even after a solid steep it tastes a bit more like fenugreek to me than aromatic rice but YMMV. it might work better as a combination than isolated from the recipe but I haven't tried his actual recipe yet.
Sushi rice itself, as was already noted by /u/dbbldz123, doesn't have much of it's own taste, indeed, popcorn and nuts combination might work.
But if you're after the taste of rice you get in your usual sushi, then you probably seek rice vinegar. You would probably never find anything like that, so sake flavors could also work.
Not really. I'm looking for the flavour of cooked white rice. Something that is flour like. Not baked. It does have a flavour. Bland but very particular.
Edit: No idea why you downvote this. I'm a grown up woman who has cooked for 20+ years for a family. I know rice and flour have flavour. Lol. And they don't go with just anything.
If you look at aroma compounds that make up rice they are pretty complex but two stick out... hexanal (fruity/grassy) and 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (nutty/popcorn). In my so far limited experience... combining elements that have these flavors (or similar ones) can get us close... but never close enough. I've found that once I start adding other flavors into the mix that delicate balance between those two easily gets thrown off. Some people have suggested adding acetyl pyrazine and it makes sense in theory but hasn't worked well for me.
There's a chinese company that makes flavors like this. Search the sub for it... I think red bean was one of the other flavors that may help you find the reviews.
Proper sushi rice actually does have a distinct taste, it's made with vinegar, salt, and sugar. I don't DIY too heavily myself, but probably something like a horchata flavor, minus the cinnamon? That could be a good starting point.
