It still needs some work, but surprisingly came out pretty damn good for a first try at a more complex recipe (my first recipe was a simple 3-ingredient Cap'n Crunch with Crunch Berries juice). Tastes great after only a day and a half of steeping, so I can't wait to see how it is in a week. I've already mixed up a 30 mL batch in case the 10 mL tester I made first doesn't last a week (it's already more than 1/3 gone).
- 4.5% TFA Strawberry (Ripe)
- 3.5% TFA Banana Cream
- 2.5% FW Cake (Yellow)
- 2.5% TFA Bavarian Cream
- 1.0% TFA Graham Cracker (Clear)
- 1.0% TFA Sweet Cream
I tend to like things very creamy, but if that's not your thing, just drop the percentages for the Bavarian Cream and Sweet Cream to 1.5% and 0.5%, and bump up the Strawberry (Ripe) and Banana Cream to 5.5% and 4.0%, and it should be more to your liking.
Please give it a shot and let me know how I did with this, made with just 3 days of experience mixing. Any ideas on possible improvements to the recipe or for another similar recipe would also be appreciated.
Nice recipe. I'm gonna mix this up when I get home tonight. I've been playing around with similar flavors this week. (Excuse the formatting I'm on mobile)
TFA Banana Cream 6% TFA Strawberry Ripe 2%
Great shake and vape, good right from the get go. Decided I wanted some more cream notes. Supplemented
FA Meringue 2% TFA Cheesecake graham crust 3%
After a day it seems strawberry has lost his way, so I'm thinking of doubling it to 4% and seeing how it goes.
Banana Cream is a pretty potent and "forward" flavor. Even at the ratio I used (4.5% Strawberry Ripe, 3.5% Banana Cream) the banana is stronger than the strawberry. Of course that's what I was going for (a banana cupcake with strawberry icing, not the other way around), but I'm just surprised that it worked out the way I wanted on the first try.
Mixing up 5 mL batches of each individual flavoring as the first thing I did when getting my DIY supplies was a great decision. If I hadn't done that, I probably would have done something like 8% Banana Cream and 2% Strawberry Ripe, which would have made the strawberry barely noticeable.
I like the banana being more prominent. I have a few just Banana cream and Strawberry ripe in different ratios and % to see where I like it best. 6% of the Banana cream is good, if that's the only cream your working with. I found out that adding meringue and the Cheesecake graham crust only aid in the disappearance of the strawberry completely lol. But when it was just the strawberry ripe at 2% and banana cream at 6% it was awesome. I'm anxious to get home and whip up yours. Been looking for an excuse to use my yellow cake
If you added Dragonfruit into that you've got yourself some Nana Cream :P
It's currently in my cart lol. First order of DIY supplies came last week and already have round two picked out. Compiling more ever dat
I'd like to mix this up but I'm going to have to sub LA banana cream for tfa, anyone have a good % suggestion for that swap?
There isn't a good % for a swap of TFA and LA Banana Cream, because they are dramatically different flavors. A substitution of these two will end up with much different profiles in the finished juice.
Awesome. The only Flavor I need to get is the Bavarian Cream. You think it would still taste alright without?
The TFA Bavarian Cream is definitely one of the more important flavors here. I definitely recommend getting some -- it's a very rich and flavorful cream flavor that is just plain awesome in recipes like this. Do you have any other cream flavors by TFA or another manufacturer available, like TFA Whipped Cream, FA Vienna Cream, FA Fresh Cream, etc.?
I'm really not experienced enough to know for sure, but maybe increase the TFA Banana Cream to 4% and the FW Yellow Cake to 3% in order to recover some of the creaminess and richness lost from the deletion of the TFA Bavarian Cream.
You might also increase the TFA Sweet Cream to 1.5% as well, but the butyric acid in this flavor has a "distinctive" aftertaste to it that I'm a bit iffy about going over 1% with it. I've heard it called "Sweat Cream" here before, but it definitely tastes great at a low percentage mixed with other flavors.
So I'd start by just increasing the TFA Banana Cream and FW Yellow Cake first and giving it a try. If it's not quite creamy enough for you, then add in the extra TFA Sweet Cream.
But like I said, I'm brand new to this; it's only my second recipe, and my first recipe had only 3 ingredients (I've mixed a couple of other recipes, but they weren't my own, so it's not the same). If there are any more experienced mixers with better advice on what to replace the TFA Bavarian Cream in this recipe with, please let Vapin8 know what to do.
Ill have to get some Bavarian cream. It's in a lot of recipes. I do have Fa Vienna Cream and also Fa fresh cream. I'll try upping the % on the banana cream and yellow cake. Thanks for your suggestions.
Damn, have everything but the Graham Cracker.
Guess I'll try it with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
So after a week of steeping, the flavor has definitely changed. I think it's a bit too creamy now....and I tend to like things very creamy.
I think I'm going to either reduce the Bavarian Cream and Sweet Cream, or maybe even keep all the percentages where they are but substitute TFA Banana Nut Bread for the TFA Banana Cream.
Actually I'll be trying both! It's great being able to tweak flavors just the way you want.
