So the last week or so, I've been going back and forth trying to fine tune a root beer recipe (most results were disastrous - not good luck with Lorann's sassafras), so I took to deep searching this sub and other sources for ideas or thoughts, and happened upon this post by /u/ReverendSaintJay. At the end of a great posting about trials and tribs of using a magnetic stirrer heater, was a little recipe:
- TFA Root Beer - 8%
- TFA Wintergreen - 2%
- TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream - 2%
Well, I have all those so I mixed it up (and gave it a 30min stir at 50C). Pretty damned good! A bit dry / chalky on the exhale though (that's, IMO, the wintergreen components) but really good! So I fooled around with it a bit more. My memory of A&W Root Beer back in the day is super creamy and a nice vanilla flavour to go along with the sassafras/wintergreen. So I have TPA's Root Beer Float, and I had to make a choice - am I going for A&W Root Beer, or A&W Root Beer Float? I went the latter:
###A&W Root Beer Float ###
- TPA Root Beer Float 7%
- TPA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream 1.5%
- FW Wintergreen (I like it better than TPA's) 1.5%
- FA Madagascar Vanilla (Bourbon) (boosting VBIC's vanilla): .5%
- Optional - to really "cream" this up, add 2% TPA DX Sweet Cream
- 50/50 PG/VG
This requires a nice steep - I'd guess 2-4 days shaking every morning and evening; I also have a magnetic stirrer heater so I gave it a half hour, high rpm 50C spin.

Have you tried FW Root Beer Float by chance?
Just wanted to thank you again for this recipe. Vaping it now and it's lovely! As it turns out, growing up here (South Africa), we had a bubblegum simply named Wicks Bubblegum, no flavour name. And as it turns out, it was root beer flavour.... The company didn't market it as such, but as soon as I smelt it, it was instantly familiar.

Oops my bad, was thinking about the sweetest cream I have that could boost the recipe, and for some reason I always think TPA's Sweet Cream is made by FA :D

We don't get Root Beer here. Am I correct in thinking it tastes like a "minty cola"... more or less?
Root beer is its own beast. Doesn't really taste like coca cola (even a minted coca cola) at all to me. It's closest cousin is birch beer.

Great looking recipe, I'm going to give it a shot! Quick question (for anyone that can answer): I have both FA Vanilla Bourbon and FA Vanilla Classic (both ordered from eliquidmart.com). Which one is "Madagascar"? Your recipe indicates it would be the Bourbon, but looking at BCV, they have it listed as "Madagascar (Vanilla Classic)".
I'm totally confused.
Madagascar Vanilla = Bourbon Vanilla. Bourbon is one of the islands (now called Reunion) in that region where vanilla is grown.
