How to Make Flavor Shots. (Pre Mix Flavors)

Been getting this question in my inbox over the past few weeks probably 10 times or so, So I figured I would just write a post about it lol.

Though it has been answered before, I figured I would write a post specifically on this.

Here is how I do it (and How I suggest doing it)

Figure out how much of a flavor shot you need to make. personally I mix 1 Liter at a time (1,000ml) of all my flavors. so to figure out how many ml's of total "flavor shot" I need is simple.

Add up all the flavor %'s in your recipe and get the total flavor %

say your total flavor % equals 14%. Now we simply take how much we need to make of final product: 1 Liter. and get 14% of it.

Obviously 14% of 1,000 is 140. but say you have a weird number you want to make of total recipe...like 140ml or something. well, let me show you how to do that

now let's go back to my example of mixing 1,000 ml's of final product.

now that we know we need to make a 140ml flavor shot. Let me give you the "DrMcLovens Shitty Flavor Shot Math Formula"

now unfortunately IDK how exactly to make this look like a formula if there is a way, but bear with me here.

A% "divided by" B% = T

after that

T% "times" Q = Total Ml's of that flavor

...the...what did you just say doc?

okie, lemme explain.

A% being you single flavor % in the recipe (A.K.A Bavarian cream 4%)

B% being the total flavor % of the recipe. (remember the 14% example)

T being what A% "divided by" B% Equals

Q being Total amount you want to make. (remember the 140 ml's of total flavor shot?)

ok so lets do a final example for you.

we have a 1,000 ml batch we want to make of final product.

we know that our total % of flavoring in the recipe is 14%

and we know that flavor 1 is Bav Cream at 4%

TIME FOR:

#"DrMcLovens Shitty Flavor Shot Math Formula"

4% "Divided By" 14% = .29 (or .28571429 to be exact)

29% "times" 140 = 40.6ml's that go into the flavor shot!

simply rinse and repeat that formula for each flavor and wuahlah. flavor shot=made!

alright...hopefully that helps...maybe?

edit: fixed math...lol ironic right?

EDIT: SORRY for the confusion. I guess I didn't make this clear. this method is for making a set amount of flavor shot that equal the flavor needed for a set batch size. so you can just dump all of it in.

ELR does this automatically for any recipe - Just press the blue wrench, then pick "Make flavor base" :)

Just went to ECR calculator. put the entire recipe in, the only blue wrench I see just gives me copy as blah blah blah options

what wrench am I missing?

Formula: (idk how to make it look like code and I'm on mobile so bare with me.) Use this for figuring each flavor. Repeat for as many flavors as you have.

Set Y as the total flavor percentage.

Set X as the percentage for the flavor you're adding.

Set Z as the total amount of finished ejuice being made.

X is the only variable that will change; Z and Y are constants for the recipe.

(X/Y) Z=mL of flavor X is quantifying.

i always just convert percentages without a predetermined target size in mind.

Example recipe:

5% Sweet Mango (CAP)
4% Acai (TFA)
3% Dragon Fruit (TFA)
2% Raspberry Natural (LA)
1% 10% Citric Acid Solution

Math Part:

5+4+3+2+1=15 (total percent of flavor)
5/15=0.34
4/15=0.27
3/15=0.20
2/15=0.13
1/15=0.06
34+27+20+13+6=100

Concentrate recipe:

34% Sweet Mango (CAP)
27% Acai (TFA)
20% Dragon Fruit (TFA)
13% Raspberry Natural (LA)
6% 10% Citric Acid Solution

This does basically the same thing, but it allows you to input it into a calculator and make variable batch sizes without having to do further math.

Fantastic write up. I've always wondered this, but feared being shunned by all of you assholes (love you guys). Using your example here, would you just add this mix at 14% to each bottle? Shame me.

It would be simpler and more accurate to multiply the percentage by the final amount, wouldn't it?

4% is actually .04 ... 1000ml * .04 = 40ml.

I'm pretty sure your additional .6 is a rounding error because you did the math twice and discarded the precision.

This works for any amount - want to make 37.6 ml? 37.6 * .04 = 1.504, you need 1.5 mg of bavarian cream.

I imagine a different way of doing flavor shots, like what MBV & the like do...its like an extra percent of total flavoring..

All I read here is how to make a flavor base with shitty math, & the way I read it it sounds like he's just premixing individual flavors into bases instead of recipe-bases. I don't even

it's a flavor shot that will be the correct proportion. so you literally just dump that flavor shot in. no measuring needed. because it is pre mathed to be the exact amount you need to dump into Xml bottle

Soooo, it's a flavor base, & not a flavor shot. & it depends upon the size of your bottle rather than something I premix & add at 14% or 16% or 12.5% to any sized bottle. Seems overly unnecessary. Or I'm not comprehending, or both.
