What do these new regulations mean for us?
submitted almost 10 years ago by Fawgmachine

Does anyone know forsure if it will effect TFA, FA, FLV, FW, etc.? I know some of these flavor companies are from another country which is likely good, so do you guys think they will continue vending to companies like bcv, ecx, and gremlin? From what I've heard, is that there is something that will most likely be passed (not sure if its only in my state wisconsin or all of them) that will change the date from what can be on the shelves from 2007 to 2015, meaning that all companies that were around already are allowed to still be in business, as well as products that we're already out before right now will still allowed to be produced and sold. Pretty much saving us from out non vaping doom. I will no matter what figure out a way to always DIY and vape. I plan on buying at least $2000 worth of flavorings over the next year as well as 5-10 IPV D2's 5-10 random small/large mods along with a handful of different RDA's, RTA's and wire. Do you guys think that's silly? I dont know about any of you, but since being clean from drugs and negative people for the first time in 10 years, vaping and DIY has been my only hobby. Instead of watching TV I try new builds, make new flavors, and chat with you guys and I wouldnt have it any other way. I'd really hate to lose it. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to know what was going on for the DIYers and what you guys plan to do.

** HR2058 was what I was talking about. Basically it can change the grandfather date in our favor. You can read more about it here. I strongly urge you all to do your research and stand up for vaping!!

I think we're going to be fine. Whatever happens will happen and the solutions to these disgusting regulations will arise right here on this sub. I have the utmost faith in the ingenuity of the people here to figure out loopholes so we can keep doing what we're doing. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if there's a massive influx of people looking to DIY when this crack down happens and the community will probably end up even stronger than before.

I'm likely not going to buy more flavoring than I can use because I believe the flavor industry will figure this one out but I would buy everything that I think I might need in the interim period where they are figuring out loopholes. They can't ban 'flavors in PG' since aromatic compounds are used in food, cosmetics, candles, air fresheners, drinks, etc. Flavor vendors will probably need to adapt and change their marketing and labeling possibly add disclaimers like 'Not Intended for Electronic Cigarette Use'.

As far as hardware... I don't think customs will crack down on mods being imported from China and frankly wouldn't buy too many mods or atomizers because the technology could still likely get better and cheaper as time goes on. But it couldn't hurt I suppose.

Nicotine on the other hand seems like a very good investment.

I have been sourcing places in Mexico. I figure if steroids and other stuff like that is making it across, it shouldnt be too hard. I also have friends in TJ that can just cross the border and mail me some nic. So i figure I will be alright.

Flavor companies turn a blind eye to vaping, as they are meant to be used in food products...so no, they shouldn't be affected.

When it comes to nicotine concentrate, i know wizard labs has their website setup to make it seem like a place for lab equipment; despite only selling vaping essentials. Doesnt say "electronic cigarette" on there once so loopholes like this might keep them safe as well

As to the part of your comment about flavors being intended for food... The pbusardo tour of flavor art (with the interviews of the FA heads), and flavorah's webpage/reddit comments, to name just two examples, indicate the opposite. Not sure how much it matters, but figured it's worth pointing out.

FlavourArt is one of the companies who has been the most forthright and proactive in educating consumers, doing research, and openly marketing towards the vape industry. The sad thing is this will probably end up making it difficult for them to skirt regulations. If you check the leaked FDA guidance documents there is a section that specifically states that even 0 nicotine eLiquid or flavors (a.k.a. components) will be considered 'tobacco products' and subject to regulation.

Yeap. It's pretty heinous irony.

While I'm sure some companies do directly mention their product to be used in eliquid, there are plenty that don't

I plan on stocking up on a lifetime of nicotine considering I lower my nicotine usage like .05MG a week/month. If need be I can be at .5mg nic even. I don't plan to be on nic for the rest of my life, my worries are being able to make as many flavors as I am able to now.

When the anti-vaping laws went into effect in North Carolina, Bull City Vapor dropped liquid nicotine concentrate from their menu and kept on chugging along.

All of the deeming reqs indicate that there must be the intent to mix the product with nicotine before it becomes a "tobacco product", and so long as the vendor does not sell nicotine they will be able to continue selling flavors and the like with impunity.

Liquid nicotine, having been marketed in advance of the proposed 2007 grandfather date, will not require a PMA to continue to be sold. Because of this I believe that there will be a split in the vendor community between companies that sell nicotine/labware/mixing supplies and companies that sell flavorings, base, and all sorts of non-nicotinated goodies.

Long story short, we may one day have to source nicotine internationally, but if I used to be able to walk into a head shop and buy a "tobacco water pipe", I'll be able to get a refill on my TFA strawberry when the bottle runs out.

Hope your right. Vaperstek nic is European. Ordered a liter today as well as about $125 worth of flavors from BCV.

Nicotine is the last thing I would worry about. That's been available pre-2007. I wouldn't worry about mods, either, because they're relatively easy to DIY.

I would mainly worry about atomizers and flavorings from Flavorah and Flavor Art. Atomizers, because they're obviously purpose-built for vaping so they fall under the FDA regs, and because there's machining involved that would be very difficult to DIY. FLV and FA, because they advertise as being intended for vaping so they'll get boned hard by the regulations. INW might fall into this category too.

BUT, the if the grandfather law changes none of these will be an issue! I mean it sucks, I'm sure there is so much more technology ahead of out time in terms of RDAs, even new wire (looks at SS on the X Cube 2). Haha speaking of that, if the grandfather date changes to 2015, smok is going to be hella popular seeing as they have one of the only mods that function with supporting SS.

Yes, this is why getting the grandfathering date changed is important.

The DNA 200 can handle stainless steel just fine. I run SS 430 dual coils on my vt200, and would totally recommend that wire to everyone using temp control. 430 has a higher TCR than other SS alloys (almost equivalent to titanium), so it's usable on most mods. But I think the DNA 200 could also run SS 316/317.

I'll be getting a DNA within the next few months when/if the prices drop.

For active diy vapers right now, not much. Selection and availability of flavors and gear maybecome worse and prices may go up, but nothing massive if you stockpile on nic and coil supplies.

For current smokers who might be looking to switch? More or less fucked.

> stockpile on nic and coil supplies.

Nic maybe (I'm at 0mg, so it doesn't worry me), but coil supplies? I know the FDA are egregious assholes, but do you think any regs against nickle wire would stick?

There's a bunch of us working on surefire ways to get nicotine given the regs in the form they are in now passes. There will be a supply issue though. After talking to some flavoring manufacturers, it seems like they will be just fine on that end, which was something I was super worried about. FA and INW might be a little more difficult to get though, but time will tell. I think the only issues that will really come up is supply on nic, hardware, and innovation. I can say that if you're not preparing now, you might want to just to be safe. You don't want to be on the shit end when half of the consumer base is trying to get their hands on FA Meringue.

by Fawgmachinealmost 10 years ago

Yeah I suppose I'll buy a few 120ML of all my favorite FA and INW flavors.

At least innovation has kind of hit a ceiling of some kind not sure what use I'd have for a 400W mod. Although it would have been cool to see what other completely different off the wall aerosolizing technologies might have arisen.

yeah that's kinda true. I would love to see temp control done right though. hopefully we get it within the next two years

I'm with you on getting hardware that will last, and not require other purchases (coils). I'll probably buy more nic before I need it and keep a good stock of it. I'm about to try out out a couple more vendors before I get any large quantities. I use VT right now. It's good, but expensive. I'm clean too (going on 5 yrs) and I agree, this definitely passes the time in a productive manor.

Using them now after trying the others and I prefer their nic. Quality stuff, would certainly buy again.

Definitely the best quality I've used and the price is incredibly competitive.

VT? Is this a flavor vendor or nicotine or both? Yeah vaping and mixing as well as building on and rda/rta really make my sober life enjoyable.

What happened?

by magespooksalmost 10 years ago

I've been self sufficient for at least a year. In my circle of friends we can make our own boxes, juice etc. I'll go back to dripping vs. tank if needed. All my tanks are RTA's. In the short term at least we will be ok. Nic is my only real concern.

by Fawgmachinealmost 10 years ago

If nic is all everyone's worried about, I'll sleep easy. I'll just stock up. Man I wish I had a circle of Vape friends. Only vapers i personally know is the few who buy my juice and theyre kind of tools.
