FLV Strawberry tastes off.

Hello again, /r/diy_ejuice

I got some FLV Strawberry from my most recent order.

I made some of /u/enyawreklaw's recent Strawberry Cream recipe.

I let it steep for about two days and gave it a quick taste. It had an overwhelming cough medicine taste to me. I had used most of the flavors before and I suspect the FLV Strawberry for causing this.

Just to make sure I didn't royally screw up the recipe I made another smaller one and tried it with no steep, same medicine taste.

I took a small drop of the concentrate and tasted it, and it seemed to be the cause.

So now I plan to steep for another few days and leave the tops off for a bit to see if it calms down.

Has anyone else had an experience like this with this concentrate, recipe, or at all?

Is there alcohol or anything in this flavor? Could it be an inconsistent strength that made the 1% called for way too much? Bad batch? Should I feel guilty for buying so many flavors and my all time favorite so far is Mustard Milk with two ingredients? HALP!

I didn't really care for FLV Strawberry, CAP and TFA Strawberry and Strawberry ripe are much better in my opinion. Plus 4oz of TFA strawberry is $5! If only I could get FLV Rich Cinnamon for that price

Some people just don't like it - I've heard it described as tasting "dirty" and have experienced something similar myself.

It does however pair well with other strawberries when used at lower percentages, you might just be extra sensitive to that taste. I don't really like it on it's own.

EDIT:

This post got me experimenting a bit and I'm finding a ratio of TFA Strawberry Ripe / FLV Strawberry at 7:1 quite delicious!

I don't care for it at all. I made some hard candy with it last night and even it tasted like straight up medicine. My mango cactus recipe turned out quite well as candy though, and the mexican coffee liquor flavoring was pretty good as well.

light corn syrup, sugar, water...it's pretty easy. I just watched this video and looked up a recipe and it turned out pretty well. Next time I'm going to add some citric or malic acid to give it a little extra something, it was a little too plain. The flavoring amount I just guessed, dripped some hot mixture into a bowl of water so it solidified and tasted it, adjusting accordingly.
