Need help with fixing a recipe--too much butyric!
submitted almost 10 years ago by CoolHandMike

Hi all, I'm wondering if there's any way to "fix" a mix I made that has too much butyric acid. Here's the recipe:

  • Strength: 2 mg
  • PG/VG-ratio: 40/60
  • 3.75% French Vanilla (CAP)
  • 3.75% New York Cheesecake (CAP)
  • 5% Vanilla Custard v2 (CAP)
  • Flavor total: (12.5%)

This is a take on Grant's Vanilla Custard from e-liquid-recipes.com, but I had to sub in the vanilla custard V2 since I didn't have any V1. In hindsight 5% is probably way too much, but I didn't know any better, and now I have about 120 ml of Grant's Vanilla Vomit that I'm really loathe to just pour out. Why did I make so much? Because one, I thought I remembered making this in 30 ml and liking it, and B, I got cocky. Oops, lesson learned, etc.

I guess I could simply add an equal amount of everything minus the custard, but I'm really afraid I'd end up with 240 mL of Grant's Vanilla Vomit Lite instead of something half-way vapeable. So I ask you guys, is there any hope of salvaging this mix? What have you guys done in similar circumstances?

Thanks in advance! -Mike

Let it sit for a while. VCv2 gets better, it just takes time.

Especially if it's somewhere warm, with the nipple top off.

The way I see it, you have two options: you either throw it away, or convince yourself that it's good when its not.

Your big mistake was buying CAP Vanilla Custard V2 to begin with bro .. Rancid shit that is

It was part of my first DIY juice buy, but I'd only ever used it in small doses. Didn't see what the fuss was all about until I made this.

This. I would stay away from V2s of Capella's creams and custards (VC, FV etc). V1s are so much better it isn't even funny. Other categories of V2s are fine IMO (Graham cracker, double choc, raspberry etc)

If you don't want to risk diluting the whole 120mL try diluting a small amount to see if it's feasible.

Split it into small amounts and try adding some fruits, might cover it up a little but I doubt it. Could be a fun experiment.

Let it age for a bit, it may die down a little, maybe take some out and age it with the cap off.

Or third option - calculate how much it cost to make, realise it's not that much, and dump it ;-) Life's too short to vape shitty juice!

I actually prefer "Grants Vanilla Custard.. my way" with Cap Vanilla Custard V2. Use v2 at the same exact percentage as v2. I have a 60ml bottle of it that I've been aging for the past four months

Doesn't seem to bother some people. I have a friend who I gave all of my v2 mixes to.

I don't see the problem with VC v2's ratio as much as the New York Cheesecake ratio... it's really high, even at 3.75%. If you even just take a slight whiff of the bottle, you can tell it is really strong.

I'd say try it at 0.5 - 1.0 maximum.. If you want more graham cracker than cheesecake, try TFA's Cheescake (Graham Crust). But yeah, drop that Cap NY Cheescake right down and you'll taste a lot less of the butyric.

EDIT: I should clarify that I use Cap Vanilla Custard v2 quite a bit and 5% really isn't that high... all the same, you're better off with v1 for taste, if you're not too concerned about the D...

you literally have to steep v2 for a month to get the rancid out. even at 2%.
