Sup homies. Been a minute since I posted a recipe here. I finally feel I pinned down a good blueberry doughnut recipe and wanted to share it with you all. As for the strawberry variant, I haven't really worked that one out yet and for some reason the strawberry flavorings we have available just don't do too well in full bready recipes. They just end up feeling forced. Anyways, this recipe was a little easier especially since the deep flavor of blueberry works so well in bakeries. Here's the recipe...
##Bluenuts: A Blueberry doughnut with a touch of lemon.
Brand | Flavoring | Concentration ---|---|---- FLV | Blueberry Muffin | 4% FA | Cookie | 1.5% FA | Bilberry | 0.5% FA | Torrone | 0.5% FLV | Butterscotch | 2% MIX AT | 70VG | 30PG STEEP | SHORT | (Overnight)
> A bready and full blueberry doughnut with a touch of lemon zest. Not a doughnut with a blueberry glaze, but more of a blueberry muffin flavor where everything is baked in. This recipe is just asking to be played with and offers many different options. Also, you can vape this right after a nights rest which makes this a great recipe to make before bed if you're low on juice.
Flavor Notes
-
FLV Blueberry Muffin / FA Bilberry: As you'd except this is pretty much the entire base of the recipe. Now FLV's offering does somewhat of a good job creating an all encompassing blueberry muffin flavor, yet it lacks any real weight. FA Bilberry really helps pull out the blueberry from the muffin and does a good job of creating that baked blueberry flavor. You can up the bilberry if you want a little more, though I wouldn't go over 1.5% because it will really start to overpower the subtlties in the base.
-
FA Cookie: This adds the extra weight that is missing from the FLV flavoring. It also helps make the entire mix a little more "rough" and really adds to the bread. 1.5% is kind of at the higher end for this flavoring, but deep flavor from the blueberry helps round out those edges, and they really work well together. Honestly, FA Cookie and FA Bilberry alone would make for a nice quick vape.
-
FLV Butterscotch: This pretty much adds authenticity to the flavor and turn it from a muffin, over to a doughnut. The difference in flavor in their real life counterparts is very subtle (from a muffin to doughnut), and what I believe separates the two is that fried sweetness you get from doughnut that isn't in a muffin. This flavoring adds that.
-
FA Torrone: This brings everything together, makes everything a touch more velvety, and also adds the touch of lemon that brightens everything up and makes the recipe a touch more complex. If you'd like a bit more lemon, you can bring this up to 1%. I absolutely love this flavoring and in bakeries it's a cheatcode. This is vital to the success of this recipe, and without it you get somewhat of a flavor that's just too deep and dark. This should be in your arsenal anyway.

Options?: So one thing I definitely want to do with this is add some kind of nut in this. Such as walnut or pistachio. This flavor is on the deeper side and one way to play to its advantage is incorporate some kind of nuts. I haven't found anything to work right now, and I encourage anyone who likes this recipe to mess around with it. Also, if you want more of a lemon flavor from this, because it's quite hidden in here, I would try using Lemon Meringue Pie or something with a more smooth lemon flavor. Initially I wanted a lot of lemon so I was using these harsh lemon flavors such as INW Lemon Shisha and FA Lemon Sicily, and I just couldn't layer them in, in a way that fit. So I'd advise to try and utilize that Torrone in a way that will really bring out a lemon flavor from a smoother and creamier ingredient. Lastly, if you feel you want some more "crunch" or some more "bread" flavor you can use a touch more cookie or adding in a touch of AP. That should do the trick. I tend to like my recipes a little more softer and creamier so I'd understand if you feel there ain't enough bite to it.
And that's it. All these ingredients pretty much make sense, and nothing too crazy in going on here. I ran in to trouble creating this recipe by doing something that I always do when mixing and that's overthinking it. I would often use my brain instead of my palate to work out issues and it always leads to jumbled and confusing recipes. For example I tried mixing in all these different kinds of bakery flavors to create a base, when all I really needed to do was build from an all ready created one. I keep forgetting a golden rule in mixing that I always preach, and that's "less is more". So I hope you guys like it, I know I do. Please let me know your thoughts on it if you mix it up, it only helps! Also, I understand some may not like it just because I posted it and that's ok too. Just offer some useful critiques is all I ask. And lastly, I said I was working on a strawberry glazed doughnut recipe and I know a lot were wondering when it'll come out. I am still trying to work that one out, but like I said I'm having issues incorporating strawberry into a fully bready flavor profile. I'm just not having luck with any of the "main" strawberries available, but I am looking at more obscure ones to try. Ok I'm out. Keep mixing!
Gives me BlueNuts just looking at it man!
I like Almonds, but probably not for this mix.
I have had a Hard time with Blueberry Mixes in the past, Blueberry seems to be one of those flavors that is ether too weak or too much like candy to myself. Never tried Bilberry though.
Have you tried like adding 0.50% FA Walnut to hit on that nut note? That would be my best guess. FW Pecan would also work.
Something I'd suggest trying would be throwing a like 0.50-1% FLV Sweet Coconut into the mix, goes quite well with the blueberry muffin flavor if my memory serves me well.
Nice use of the lemon/honey aspects of torrone in this recipe.
Thanks for sharing :)
We need to make a rule... You have to send your recipe to all the flavor vendors a minimum one week before posting. LOL I'm ordering as fast as I can to get ready for the rush.
I keep telling them this. Even if they wanted to play favorites and just tell some vendors... That might be worth a little store credit.
But the joke is on /u/Enyawreklaw this time because I have ALL of these fucking flavors!!!! It took me a minute to figure out what was wrong as I was reading the recipe. It was a very foreign feeling.
Your doing a great job bro! So my question, have you gave up on CAP glazed doughnut? I have made use of this flavor in a few cereal and bread type recipes but only at 1% or lower. Have you came to any conclusions about that flavor. This recipe is great however I use Flv blue muffin in a few blueberry muffin recipes, however I have came to they conclusion that Flv blueberry muffin made little to no difference at 3% to 4% I actually believe it tasted worse at they higher number, Also I fell Flv blueberry would be a great Candidate for this recipe! Keep up they great work!
Hey man, are you still going to post recipes to ELR?
I hope you do, I feel weird posting other people's recipes there, even when I provide a linkback. I think it's a great resource that seems to be losing traction.
Shortbreads is pretty good by the way. I'm trying to come up with a raspberry thumbprint cookie using SB's as a starting point.
Why do I refuse to purchase FLV?....there's something inside me that just can't pull the trigger...
They're pretty good but I haven't touched my flavors really. Its serious work individually trying all your flavors and finding what goes good with them. Feels like I "just know" what to put with others. Been trying to make this cured tobacco work for weeks but nothing is doing it for me despite it being a delicious tobacco.
Not bad, not bad. I think the blueberry is a little forward... It is a little "soft" and I'm not getting a whole ton of the donut (could be my coil, it makes Rhodonite less cakey/cookie as well). Keep in mind these observations are on a single, .5 ohm coil.
The lemon aspect is nice and adds what you said it does, but I don't know if I'm getting that full donut type aspect. It's a nice blend, might benefit from some powdered sugar. I don't really know what the butterscotch does, I haven't been able to taste it in any of my mixes, so it's kind of just there. The mouthfeel is full and it vapes smooth. Overall good juice, as I vape it, I'll amend it to add some suggestions for other users. Good work, Wayne.
edit: Have you tried a slight cinnamon bakery note? Cinnamon gives blueberries a baked feel a la liquid amber and really makes them a little less fruity. Not enough to truly taste the cinnamon but just something like cinnamon crunch or cinnamon roll where cinnamon is the secondary flavor. Cinnamon Cinnamon Cinnamon that's a lot of Cinnamons!
One thing going into this is I wanted to make sure of is that it's not too overpowering, much like bronuts where it just blasts you with full flavor. I wanted a smoother more streamlined flavor, with a touch of depth in the front (with lemon). I absolutely can see how it might be too soft, which is why I think a touch of AP or Cookie might roughen it up. Great notes thanks man! I'll see what I can do to improve it.
(Ps) I can completely taste the butterscotch but maybe that's just me :/
Mixed this up last night and tried it right away, and then this morning. Amazing change overnight. I would categorize it a bit closer to muffin as well - but it's also kind of like the more cakey donut you can get. Actually, Wayne - have you considered rethinking this as a blueberry lemon scone? Because that's what it tastes like to me, which is spectacular. The butterscotch combing with something in there even gives a bit of the essence of a frosted blueberry scone.
Glad you like it! Also, Blueberry Lemon Scone does make sense. I personally believe it tastes like a freshly baked donut but I can completely understand if someone is getting more muffin or scone. The differences between them are quite subtle, and incorporating the butterscotch was really my way of trying to pin in on that donut flavor. So any other bakery interpretation would fit to who ever is vaping it because of well...different palates. Thank you for your input, I'm gonna see what else I can do to make it more donuty?
Delicious either way. And to be fair, I am not sure if I've ever had a blueberry donut, actually. Probably better if I don't go looking for one, either. 😀
Hi Wayne,
Thanks for all that you do. I know you're a busy man and you're juggling a lot. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
This recipe looks tasty. As soon as I get some more bottles I'll be sure to give it a go. Any recommendations on where to buy?
