What was all the hype about? It almost tastes like I'm vaping grease. I don't get it.
It's almost as if taste is subjective. Also, there have been mentions that CAP Chocolate Glazed Doughnut is pretty inconsistent in quality and taste because it wasn't as popular before Bronuts. Stores had CGD laying around for a long time then Bronuts became hyped up and the result is you getting a concentrate that has been sitting around for a while. My CGD tasted fine from gremlindiy. I wasn't a hug fan of Bronuts either. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't blown away by it. The bavarian cream version was much better and I made a raspberry version that, to me, is much much better.
Chocolate flavored grease?
EDIT: Honestly, i didnt want to say anything, but it wasnt my cup of tea. Its too heavy for me.
From what i understand, CAP Chocolate Donut (or whatever it is) has very mixed reactions. Some people say it tastes like sand or grease or whatever.
theres a lot of wanye hate after the whole magazine fiasco and i understand why people are pissed but i don't think his recipe deserves to get shit on like it is in this thread. I've never even had bronuts but wayne is a big contributor to this sub and i think this treatment is fucked up
Edit: comment is more directed at commenters than you OP
I steer clear of drama, it's unproductive, but I see little of these pitchforks of which you speak. People are just saying that the recipe doesn't live up to the hype. Personally I appreciate anyone contributing their work, ideas, opinions and experiences. It's up to the reader to draw their own conclusions from it.
Publicly shitting on someone's recipe? OP didn't do anything wrong but the flippant disrespect of some of the comments disturbed me. We should be offering constructive criticism. It would feel awful if there was a post of your recipe you worked hard on and everyone commented on it saying it was bad and tasted like grease.
Edit: changed wording slightly
Some are just blunt and speak their minds, they don't mean any harm or disrespect. Then there are some that do and there will always be people like that no matter how offended you get. This "shitting on" is just the backlash of an overhype, they have probably tried to voice these opinions before but been drowned by all the praise. It is not aimed at the author but at the masses who won't shut up about how awesome it is.
I personally haven't tried this recipe, but it's never going to live up to the expectations of someone who listened to the hype and eagerly ordered flavors and waited days just to get to mix it up. No recipe will. And after reading the other side of the story in posts like these, people can perhaps get a more realistic expectation of what the recipe is and what it is not.
Which magazine fiasco? I am genuinely interested, I am a subscriber, thanks.

When Wayne released inthemix most of the /r/diy_ejuice community seemed to agree that it was rushed and stupid and that he should have offered the first issue for free. Basically he went from a respected member of the sub to a bit of a joke overnight. Not to disparage him at all I understand why he did what he did, but it cetaintly affected how people see him
Just don't write off Wayne. This one just wasn't for you. Me either. But I just mixed up my first batch of rhodenite, and this is the best thing I've ever vaped.
It's just a mediocre recipe with a heaping helping of hype. Some people love it, many I know don't care for it. I certainly fit into the latter category. To each their own!
It mellowed out for me about 2 weeks in. It's one of my ADVs now. I want to pull down the glazed chocolate donut some and throw in some kind of cream though.
I love it personally. Its a really good ADV. Its flavor doesnt really dull over the course of a day for me.
Bronuts was one of my first DIYs. I was extremely excited to try it, since I really like chocolate glazed doughnuts.
I have to say, he nailed the flavor. BUT, I don't like vaping it. I ended up giving my bottle away, and the person I gave it to loved it.
I've made several of enyawreklaw's liquids at this point, and they are all spot on in terms of replicating flavors. They are all also flavors I like when it comes to food, but none of them are a satisfying vape to me.
I've had this experience several times now, including with the mint oreo milkshake recipe I posted in a recent recipe thread. I absolutely love mint chocolate flavors - oreos, ice cream, thin mints, you name it. However, I can't stand vaping the stuff, even if I nail the flavor.
Basically, my #1 takeaway from DIY and trying so many different liquids is that food preferences != vape preferences.
Now I stick to savory flavors, tobaccos, and sour fruity vapes. Dessert vapes and dairy/custard flavors just don't do it for me.
same boat, so i alted the recipe with 1% tfa whipped cream, mellowed out the harsh edges and made the flavors more pronounce. it's decent, hardly daily. but joy and biscuit our amazing to work with....like oh shit im good a dyi
whipped cream is my go to for smoothing out dessert recipes.
I really enjoy the original bronuts. My only complaint and haven't been able to find, is that it gunks up my coils faster than average. Maybe the only thing I would change is add some additional FA chocolate and reduce the GCD.
That being said, again, I really enjoy the original.
I had the play-do taste the first time I mixed it but then it mellowed out. My latest mix adds the 2% TPA Bavarian Cream and I threw in .5% CAP Butter Cream and the chocolate taste is still there but not as powerful. I'm gonna up the Butter Cream to 1% to see how that goes.
I appreciate ENYAWREKLAW for convincing me to DIY and the effort he puts into his site/podcast/youtube, BUT....
So far, I've made 'Sicle, Bronuts, and Blackout. The only one that's been impressive is Blackout, but for whatever reason he wrote it for TFA Graham Cracker (salt, food coloring, corn syrup, WHY!?). I also noticed that his recipes either borrow a lot from HIC's mixes or stick to certain trends of marshmallow/meringue/joy. I have no skills at mixing, so I've been relying on premade recipes so far, but "Joe Schmoe" on ELR has impressed me more thus far.
I thought the recipe was good and I don't even like chocolate donuts! That being said I can't vape bronuts for more than 30 minutes, once a week! To be honest when I first started creating ejuice I thoguht all my diy tasted like grease while everyone else said this recipe is they best thing ever! At that time I did not understand 3 MAIN things Steeping, vg/pg quality and Nicotine quality. When I understood those things even my worst recipe tasted brother. The first month of diy was they biggest let down ever! Because my hopes where SOOO high!, and then they soon all went down the crapper! To me unless you have made at least 100 mixes you should have NO part in JOY. 2 years and hundreds of gallons later I still don,t understand it!
