me and a friend are going to start making diy liquid soon and before we start we have been making calculators to calculate things like the cost of a 30ml bottle of diy juice or the percentage of nic and flavorings base on amounts used. what are some features for a calulator that you would like or that would be useful when mixing DIY juice. Right now it is just an .exe file but we may start a web version of it if it becomes useful and feature rich
Rod Brown's Juice Calculator has more features than I've found a use for and is only missing being able to export recipe data to other formats (other than excel) and/or being able to upload directly to ELR (which would be +really+ useful).
Yeah, it does most everything I want and everything I really need. I would like to be able to search recipes containing an ingredient though.
I'm not in front of my computer, but I thought I remembered being able to do that some how...
Now I'm embarrassed. Found the search under edit... and it works exactly like I want it to. Brings up a list of all of the ingredients with check boxes. Check an ingredient and hit search, lists all of the recipes containing that ingredient. Now I can find out why I have FW Monkey Fart on my shelf and how many recipes it's used in. :b
Don't know how I missed it but thanks. Now I can say it does everything I want it to. :)
There are a number of must haves:
- PG/VG ratio that is scalable
- Scalable nic mg/ml and amount
- Save aromas with notes on the aromas
- percentage down to .00 (ie. 2.54%)
/not musts, but convenient would be:
-
Scalable cost. Enter what you have on hand and what you paid and it spits out a cost per ml, cost of recipe, and then if you but more at a different size and price, it scales what you have and dollar cost averages your on hand stock.
-
Real time inventory - You enter what you have on hand in your aromas, and when you build a recipe, have a button to deduct from inventory. Then you could build a "what to order" page
If you need help with the formulas, I have all of these built into a spreadsheet - I'm no programmer so it's not pretty, but it's functional for my needs.
the one thing i saw missing from my favorite app is the ability to tweak your nic VG & PG ratio. IE: you can only pick 100% PG or 100% VG.
Sadly, i use 50/50 so i have to math, every time.
Also, if there were a possibility to link to ELR (recipes, stash, etc) that would be awesome too
Would a drop down menu of predefined ratios work or would you prefer manual input of watch part of the ratio?

I had this app and it's very customizable. Has the feature you are looking for. But the save function is sort of broken. The first recipe you create in a session gets deleted after quitting the app. I emailed the dev and he said he is ashamed of the sphagetti code wants to redo the whole app. That was a month ago.
I use this one and it's faultless.
Sounds like an awesome project. Being able to update inventory everytime you make a batch, calculating all costs, unlimited flavoring additions, and a tagging system for fast flavor finding all put into one calc is something I would happily pay money for. A really good note taking app attached to it is needed imo because I rather not use two separate programs to take my notes. Just some thoughts!
Any mac users have a DIY mixing calculator solution?
Would be nice to have a multi-port desktop version of ELR. If you are into programming maybe hit them up as they've already got a big head start with this.
The ability to adapt a recipe and augment is great for creating test trials and taking notes. For those who mix by weight being able to change the flavoring ratios from drops to grams (and use manufacturers specific gravity readings) is also kind of priceless.
Would be cool if trial versions and adaptations of one particular juice recipe could be nested in a sidebar somehow a la iTunes playlist. That way you could quickly look and see every version of a tweaked recipe in a gestalt kind of way.
Ability to attach and edit suggested mixing %s for particular flavors.
A 'suggested flavor' pairing module. That could recommend an additional ingredient based on both a general knowledge of flavors / volatiles and collective knowledge of communities like this one.
This one's a little excessive but would be crazy: ability to see every compound in a certain concentrate. Then you could have features like "show flavors with similar compounds" or receive a warning when you're overall mix is exceeding a particular volatile that will result in an undesirable flavor or "dangerous" amount of something (e.g. diacetyl).
Ok that's it for now. I think I got carried away and basically asked you to make a flavor making artificial intelligence.
to be honest, im not really missing anything from http://e-liquid-recipes.com/
Well. maybe, perhaps some more info on steeping times for the diffrent flavors. Or the dream would be a tweaking calculator. "I added this and this much extra to the juice I am working on, now what are the percentages?"
maybe you could include the inventory that shows how many ml's each flavor left. each time we mix a batch, the ml will be deducted.
Edit: ah i just realised /u/Enyawreklaw suggest the same about the inventory thingy. really wish this could be in the app.
I'll throw my hat into the mix I've created an android app that has most of the features requested above, including inventory tracker which will also state if you haven't got enough of a concentrate before you start mixing
saves recipes
gives notifications when steeping is done
calc by weight & volume
Fully adjustable base & nic ratio
Few other features too and future features I'm currently working on

Yo. I use vapor calc on android. It has all the features you could ever need.accurate coil calculator for any metal that's vapable. The ejuice calc lets you pick the percentage of annnythinggg and allows you to save notes and back up your recipes. I use it daily.
