I purchased 100mg/ml nicotine solution from a private party on /r/ecigclassifieds. Had I realized that this person was an idiot, I wouldn't have. Basically, big glass bottle of poison, little shipping carton with not nearly enough packing, sent the cheapest way possible. I couldn't believe it when my postman delivered the dripping mess. The slacker hadn't even bothered to put the bottle in a ziplock bag. I contacted the shipper, then ran down to the post office to notify them of the toxic spill. Apparently, it's not illegal to send poison unsafely through the system.
Meanwhile, the seller/shipper is more concerned that I'm ripping him off than any of the safety issues here. He offers to send me another, which I strongly refused.
TL;DR: Moron unsafely shipped poison, which broke. Don't buy dangerous substances from a moron.
Maybe something that dangerous, that should be handled safely and professionally, would be best not to be bought from random folks on a forum.
Good idea notifying the post office. Hopefully no one was directly exposed to the nic.
I sure hope not. The clerk, whom I knew, said that they'd wipe the area and containers down, and pass the word along :(
That really bugs me. People like that are the people who give our community a bad name.
why are you buying nic from the classifieds?
I moderate there. I thought it was a good idea. I was wrong.
I have 2 kids in their early teenage years and I keep my nicotine as safely as I can and it still worries me, a nicotine disaster is my biggest fear.
Did you show it to them and explain what it is and how it can kill them and that it is not to be toyed around with?
I did exactly that, I do all I can but it still worries me daily.
I've had to deal with some major idiots in the "vaping classified" world before.... From ECF, FB, all around. It's amazing how stupid some people are with shipping things that can be dangerous (nicotine, lipo batteries, etc.).
I gotten so much vape mail, I have a massive amount of bubble wrap, super thick zip-lock style bags (in just about every size imaginable), foam containers, boxes, etc. i keep from various shipments to store my own things safely and reuse in case I need to ship something to others. I didn't buy any of it, just saved it from shipments I've gotten over the years.
The guy must have been s total noob, because I'm pretty sure just about everyone reading this has a stash of shipping material around they either bought or saved from previous online dealings.
So that no one else buys dangerous substances from this same moron, can you list his user?
No, I'm not going to do that. He's been rendered harmless. I had him 'fixed' ;)
Seriously, don't buy or sell nic solution from anywhere other than a proper company that ships it all the time. I was a bonehead for buying it on reddit.
Im a member of a very popular vaping forum and have received nicotine, flavorings, vg, and pg from forum members with zero problems. On a few occasions Ive gotten shipments of Nic from private forum members and had absolutely nothing go wrong. It sucks that you unknowingly bought from some dumb ass, because most of the diy community is not nearly that stupid.
I think about this all the time. Who's going to be the first idiot who kills the poor post man. With all the incompetence you'd think you would've heard about more 100mg deaths, but it's becoming more and more clear the LD50 is way above 60mg. Have any adults died from 100mg yet?
Touching it won’t hurt anyone, no worries. Bad of the seller anyway.
>Spilling an extremely high concentration of nicotine onto the skin can result in intoxication or even death since nicotine readily passes into the bloodstream following skin contact.

That also depends on the solvent. VG/PG are solvents which have trouble penetrating the skin and therefore wont readily pass their nic. Exposure should certainly be avoided but unless its a shitload, washing your hands afterwards should be fine at that strength. Dealing with a leaking bottle sounds pretty reckless nonetheless.
You sound like you know a lot more about the science of it, so my anecdotal evidence is possibly very flawed.
I had a bottle of 18mg in my pocket once, and for whatever reason (I must've not completely shut the cap), the entire thing exploded in my pocket. I had a pocket full of 15ml of 18mg juice, and the only reason I knew was because I got dizzy as hell, and then extremely nauseous. I stuck my hand in my pocket and knew it was the nicotine being absorbed way too fast through my skin.
I'm just confused as to why it's apparently not a big deal if me and countless other vapers have had a run in with ejuice spills. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just hoping you may have an explanation for the conflicting anecdotal evidence.
Are you nuts? This is strong shit, and nicotine has ridiculous trans-dermal penetration properties. If you're suggesting that splashing 100 mg/ml strength nic solution on you is no big deal, I'm disagreeing.
Was it a bucket of it that spilled? Minor amounts of 100mg on the skin is really no big deal.
If drinking 100mg concentrations, than it's a different story. But I doubt anyone's licking up the spill at usps.
