Mixing up 200ml of my ADV, and just realized I'm out of the last flavor. Help please...
submitted almost 10 years ago by Chi-Tony

So I'm in a rush & trying to mix up a batch real quick, it's my ADV so I just get to mixing without putting much thought into it. I get to my last needed flavor which is Vanilla Swirl, recipe calls for 6ml and I've only got around 1.5ml left. I'm sitting here with a batch that's 90% done so any ideas for a substitution would be much appreciated. Here's the recipe

  • TFA-Bavarian Cream 3%

  • TFA-Strawberry 2%

  • TFA-Strawberry Ripe 2%

  • TFA-Vanilla Swirl 3%

  • CAP-Sweet Strawberry 4%

  • CAP-Vanilla Custard 4%

I have substituted one of the following for Vanilla swirl , French Vanilla , Vanilla Cream , Vanilla Bean ice cream , Vanilla Classic and Vanilla Cupcake if i'm out of a certain Vanilla .

Works for me with Custard recipes .

I have Vanilla Classic, would you recommend same percentages?

Thanks, I think I'm gonna divide it into 4 50ml bottles as someone else recommended & try a few flavors to see what works the best

Mix the whole batch for a good while and split it in four, and try with different flavours in each of them. Vanilla Swirl isn't the most potent flavour in my experience so you could probably find a good substitute pretty easily, and having four batches will at least improve your chances of creating something good, or perhaps even better.

I don't know what flavours that are similar to VS you have in your stash. Let me know and I'll se what I can come up with.

If you've got any of these, this is my advice:

2.5% TPA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

or

1.2% FA Vienna Cream

or

1% FLV Cream

Looks like a good tasting recipe by the way, gonna try it later! :)

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is the closest sub for Vanilla Swirl. They share 90% of the same aroma molecules.

If you're using 3% Van Swirl, Id start at 2% VBIC.

Vanilla bean ice cream is real close. Dairy milk with a bit of bavarian cream is also pretty close.

Honestly 3% Vanilla Swirl is like alot. I would just dump your remainder in and i think the Vanilla Custard + Bavarian Cream will provide enough cream/vanillla. Maybe you'll like it more this way who knows?

lmfao if 3% vanilla swirl is a lot then what the hell do you think of 8% vanilla bean ice cream?

3% vanilla swirl isn't shit in many recipes. A light, slightly creamy, airy, slightly vanilla background note.

Have you even ever solo vaped VBIC &/or Vanilla Swirl at 5%? Probably not.

You're absolutely right and I agree with you 100% but damn that was harsh! Haha. You went from really helpful advice above to "trololol omfg new00000b" real fast. It was awesome.

VBIC has a lot more flavor to it than Vanilla Swirl. I treat it more like you would Bavarian Cream or other cream bases.

Actually don't seem like a bad idea, then if I don't like it I can add it in later.

Isn't TFA Vanilla Swirl the diketone free version of TFA Vanilla Custard? I thought I saw that posted here recently. So if you have that on hand, I'd give that a shot.

I've seen that on TFA's website but I dunno, they're pretty different.

To me vanilla swirl is a light-medium cream with vanilla and vanilla custard is more vanilla with light custard with reasonably strong sugary flavours.

Got Vanillin?

Ya I do, I thought I'd heard that vanilla swirl was just one flavor or another with something missing or added. Couldn't remember though.

Vanilla Swirl is:

  • Ethyl Vanillin

  • Vanillin

  • Ethyl Maltol

  • Gamma Nonalactone

  • Isoamyl Isovalerate

  • Cyclotene

  • Anisyl alcohol <para->

  • Butyrate <ethyl->

  • Maltol

Vanilla Custard has all that with added A+AP.

Vanilla Bean Ice Cream has many of them as well.

Ditto French Vanilla Deluxe.

Thank you for this. And thanks to everyone that responded, I could have done a little research & found what I needed but was hoping for some fast responses as I was in a pinch.
