Flavor of the Week: Apple
The purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and it's many uses.
####We're not just looking for you to post recipes you have containing the flavor of the week, but looking for you to share your process as you develop a new juice using the flavor of the week.
This should help us all to better understand how certain flavors interact, and give us all a launching point to perhaps discovering new wonderful recipes.
###Please post new recipes created using this flavor as well as any and all tasting notes as main posts. Thought process is encouraged also.
This thread will NOT be in contest mode so the best flavors and reviews of those should move their way towards the top.
While I definitely encourage you to branch out with this flavor and use some more rare flavors, I would encourage everyone to keep it in mind that others will not be able to try your recipe and comment or offer assistance if they do not have the flavors you are using. I would also encourage you to use this week's flavor as the "main" flavor in your recipe although this is not required.
You BETTER sample and offer tasting notes on your recipe.
Good luck to everyone!
##This Week's Flavor is: APPLE
Unlike in the previous monthly contest thread, I am NOT limiting this to any specific flavor from any specific vendor. After all, our goal here is to come up with perhaps some unique uses of the weekly flavor or combinations others may not have thought of before. This should allow for maximum participation as well!

Last week's flavor overlaps with this week's in my recipe. I posted it late because it took time to let the recipe steep, but here is what I came up with for caramel, with the other main note being apple.
- 2% FLV Green Apple
- 3% FA Fuji
- 2% FLV Caramel
- .8% FLV Butterscotch
- .5% FLV Peanut Butter
- 1% TFA Toasted Marshmallow
- 1d/10mL FLV Coconut
I went with FA fuji because it's really the best apple available. Such a wonderfully complex flavor that lends the sweetness of an apple with the tart, almost bitter, flavor of the apple rind. FLV Green Apple is more like the caramel apple lollipops that are handed out for Halloween, and seem to have a shelf-life that makes one feel uncomfortable just sharing the same spot in the universe as them. A delicious candy, and an unsettling anomaly. Nonetheless, it's a great tart candy-like apple flavor, and I'm using it here to gear Fuji closer towards a Granny Smith apple.
The marshmallow and coconut are in there to add a bit more of the cream and butter flavor that is found in real caramel. FLV Coconut has a distinct butter flavor that I really like in caramel, and it will hopefully lend that note to this recipe. TFA Toasted Marshmallow will add sweet thickness to the caramel without adding too much of its own flavor. Peanut butter for the peanuts on a caramel apple, since FLV Peanut Butter is more of a basic peanut flavor.
FA Fuji is also great with almost any unsweetened(unflavored) cream base, a recipe that has been my ADV many times when I tired of my 'Nana Cream clone.
Tasting notes on the recipe: Not quite as juicy as a caramel apple you would get at the Fair, but the apple is definitely the front of this recipe. You get a strong apple with a creamy background on inhale. On exhale, you get a sweet apple flesh flavor masked by caramel and a light hint of peanuts. The butter note I added for the caramel seems to work really well in this recipe, and the toasted marshmallow adds a decent mouthfeel. A slight hint of butterscotch is left on the tongue after the exhale, which makes this recipe feel a bit more realistic. The flavor is a little bit in your face, and I feel this recipe would do well if diluted by 10%. As it is now, it's not an ADV, but a great experience regardless.
YES!!!
i have a few apples. INW is hands down my favorite among accuracy. i will have to dig through my box and notes but INW Apple-TDM is fantastic, and combined with FA Apple Stark and INW Apple-WG makes almost a martinelli apple juice vape. this week am looking to advance this into an apple cider for the fall with FA Brandy/Liquid Amber.
i have tried making caramel apple many times with loads of apples but nothing ever seemed to work out well. tried others so called caramel apples and wasnt impressed either.
Any way you could post the Apple Juice recipe please?
the apple juice is easy, just 3% of FA Stark and 3% of INW Apple TDM with a PINCH of INW Apple WG, like 0.25% [though i cant find it anymore on BCV], it acts like adding pear to apple for that BIT of tart. if you like your juice more like martinelli, leave it out or add in FA Fuji [would probably do 2%x3]. i also havent tested overall % strength, but 6.25% is STRONG, so could probably reduce it a little more. i will also note i mix maxVG so there is a lot of sweetness from the VG.
okay, so a rundown of the apples i have tried [i dont count the "mixes" for bakery styles... apple tart being exception but i dont use it ever]
- FW Red Apple - not a fan of any FW i have come across, they all taste fake to me, so not sure of a use of this one but it doesnt taste like red apple to me... maybe in a candy type flavoring but not realistic at all. 3-5%
- TFA Apple Tart- Granny Smith - makes my lungs hurt, i would not recommend using this flavor at all. Contains Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl. 0%
- TFA Green Apple - candy like green apple, like jolly rancher type flavor; ~3-6%
- INW Apple TDM - most realistic apple i have come across, juicy; 2-4%
- INW Apple WG - Tart apple, like a green apple but not like a granny smith. VERY strong; <1%
- FA Apple Stark -Very mild apple flavoring, plays well with others but not overpowering in the least; 3-5%
- FA Fuji - second best realistic apple i have come across, more crisp than INW apple tdm. will probably make its way into my AJ; 2-4%
thanks so much for doing this. I'm trying to compile a newer list of flavor profiles, and i love that you rated several diff brands here. Once I get a fairly good database, I will be sure to post to the sub for others who may also be interested. ;)
edit: wording
This sounds like fun, I'm in! Pure coincidence, before I left work today I wanted something apple, so I threw together (without measuring anything) INW Two Apples, INW Cactus, CAP Cinnamon Danish and FA Pear. I have it mixing in my pocket right now but I'll try it tomorrow to see if it's worth doing anything with. If it's worth it, I'll measure out the list to share.
I have been on an apple cider and spice kick for the last few weeks. I have sampled apple flavorings from Capella, Inawera, FA. I find that the Capella Double apple really brings a nice sweet apple to the mix when used in cider recipes. Inawera is a bit less sweet but is still tasty.
I have come up with a cider recipe that uses Fizz's and Hic's recipes to make a truly great cider.
Harvest Equinox v2 (Capella)
Ingredients|Ing %| :---|---:|---:|---:|---: Apple Mix (Hangsen)|4.00%|24.0|1.243 g|1.200 ml Cherry Blossom (TFA)|2.00%|12.0|0.622 g|0.600 ml Liquid Amber (FlavorArt)|1.50%|9.0|0.466 g|0.450 ml Oakwood (FlavorArt)|0.50%|3.0|0.155 g|0.150 ml Rich Cinnamon (Flavorah)|0.30%|1.8|0.093 g|0.090 ml Holiday Spice (TFA)|0.50%|3.0|0.155 g|0.150 ml Ginger (NF)|0.30%|1.8|0.093 g|0.090 ml Jamaica Rum (FlavorArt)|0.75%|4.5|0.233 g|0.225 ml Brown Sugar (TFA)|0.50%|3.0|0.155 g|0.150 ml Orange (FlavorArt)|0.50%|3.0|0.155 g|0.150 ml Cranberry (TFA)|0.30%|1.8|0.093 g|0.090 ml Double Apple (CAP)|4.00%|24.0|1.243 g|1.200 ml
You could alternately replace double apple with Inawera Two Apples at the same percentage. You could also replace it with FA Fuji at 2% and Apple at 1%. I however find Capella to add a depth of sweetness that was missing from the other apples.
Next version I am going to add .5% of FA Marshmallow to give it a better mouth feel.
I ordered a bottle of TFA Apple a while back, and I never even opened it until last month. Man, I wish I would have done it sooner.
I've been on a quest for a good strawberry/banana milkshake flavor using as few flavors as I can, and so far I've come up with a pretty tasty blend.
#Ooples and Banoomoos Mk. II (All TFA)
-
Banana Cream @ 8%
-
Apple @ 4%
-
Strawberry (ripe) @ 3%
It's best after a day or three of steeping and shaking, but it still tastes yummy with a shake and vape IMO.
Apple gives a very mellow, sweet and slightly savory flavor that can add the right amount of sweetness without overdoing it. In my blend, the apple even gives off an interesting hint of "pink bubblegum" flavor when it mixes with the strawberry. I think TFA Apple and Strawberry (ripe) has amazing potential when mixed, but I don't have the experience to really bring it out and take advantage of it.
There's definitely room for improvement (I still have two more variations written down to try), but I think it's a good base flavor overall. If you give this a tweak and end up churning out something amazing, pm me. I want the final solution!
I'm only new here, but here is something I came up with today.
I call it Pine Chapple.
Apple TFA 7%
Pineapple TFA 2%
Peach (Juicy) TFA 3%
Koolada TFA 1.5%
Mango TFA 1.5%
A really nice, smooth vape. The main flavour is of course apple, but it plays with the pineapple really nicely, especially since the pineapple is so low, but such a strong flavour. Inhale is apple, pineapple and peach, exhale is pineapple with a hint of mango.
I was going for a refreshing, cooling vape, because it's getting damn hot here in Australia. Very fruity, very tasty. Perhaps add a bit of Menthol to it if you want it to be a bit more refreshing.
This might be a great place to ask, I'm looking to develop an apple jacks flavor and am not sure which apple to start with. Currently I have cap green apple (which is more of a green apple jolly rancher) and FA fuji apple. What apple would you guys suggest starting with?
As for a recipe I have one of my favorites for you:
Rum-pples 80/20 3% Nic
- Fuji Apple (FA) 2%
- Butter Rum (FW) 10%
The Fuji Apple (FA) comes off strong with this one. Some people like it with a little less apple but over time it calms down a bit. As for the Butter Rum (FW) I have found that even at this high of a percentage it is easily overpowered by the apple and you get only a slight hint on the inhale. I have been tossing around adding in some caramel and/or vanilla to give it a more sugary/creamy note. Let me know what you think :)
Oh oh oh I can actually contribute to this one!!!
I started with a desire to play with INW Apple. Searching on ELR, I found a recipe for an apple berry cake. I didn't have the berry components, so I went ahead without. Pear enhances the apple at lower percents so I originally added .5%, but a mistake while measuring a previous version ended up tasting really good so I left it higher. The original had the Cin Danish Swirl at 2%, but I found it overpowered the more delicate fruit notes so I dropped it by .5% each time until I found the sweet spot for this recipe - it's not quite enough at .5% but 1% was just a little too much. Joy was the last change - I was hoping it would add an apple fritter-like note, and it definitely works. I may try it at 2% in the next variation.
Apple INW 2% Yellow Cake FW 2% Cinnamon Danish Swirl CAP 0.75% Joy FA 1% Pear INW 2% Sweet Cream TFA 2% Whipped Cream TFA 2%
I did this at 70vg/30vg and let it sit for a week. It's delicious.
