First recipe (Toothrot Juice) and method
submitted almost 10 years ago by magicvapechick

Hi! Here's something I've been working on for a few days, which i call "Toothrot Juice" on account of it being very sweet. It's my first go at sharing a recipe and I thought I might as well add some words about how I went about it in case it helps anyone. First, the recipe:

  • Brown Sugar (TFA) 2%
  • Banana Cream (TFA) 5%
  • Marshmallow (TFA) 2%
  • Raspberry (Cap) 3%
  • Sweet Strawberry (Cap) 3%

Shake and vape!

I was struck by the idea of making something that was very sweet. I started off mixing low percentages of Honey, Brown Sugar, and Caramel. As you will notice only one of those made it to the final version.

I mixed by weight, which is indeed much easier than mixing by volume. I made 5ml samples with no nicotine and a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. What I got from that first iteration was a slightly floral, honey-heavy juice that was like vaping sugar. Could have been worse, but it definitely wasn't ready for public consumption.

For the second version I made up three samples each with a different change from the first recipe. Adding Marshmallow won out over adding Bavarian Cream or Whipped Cream. The marshmallow seemed to give it some texture and made the honey less overpowering.

Version 3 dropped the honey to 1% and then I experimented with adding Banana Cream or Sweet Strawberry. In the end I went with both at 4% each.

Then I dropped the caramel out entirely, because the sweetness overall was a bit too smooth and lacking in specifics. Next was the addition of Raspberry for some "bite." I played with percentages a bit to bring the total flavouring at this point down from 18% to 15%.

Finally I had something that I really liked and which stuck to the initial concept of "something really sweet" as well as being vapable as soon as it was mixed.

I kept notes on paper throughout this process, so that if I had to I could recreate any of the earlier versions of the juice. I also consulted a notebook of "flavour notes" compiled from reading about various flavours and their properties. I definitely recommend writing everything down when developing a recipe, to document what you did and how you did it.

Making all those bottles of the same thing was a bit boring at times but making one change at a time seemed like the only sensible way to go about it and I think it saved a lot of failures along the way.

tl;dr = I made ejuice and you should write stuff down.

Gave up on the Honey? Lol, it's definitely a tricky flavor.

It was a bit overwhelming even at 1%!

Try using .5% or even less, and if that's too much of a pain, you can dilute it with PG anywhere from 1/2 to 1/5 strength and use that.

I do a 10% dilution with TFA honey, then use that starting at .5%. It's absurdly strong.
