This morning I spent some time reflecting on my last year of DIY'ing. I started off just trying to make something I would enjoy vaping and possibly share with friends. Now this has turned into a full blown hobby. I work from home and half of my desk is dedicated to making juice. It's really nice to have all of my flavors out on display for quick access. Previously I was mixing at the kitchen table every one - two weeks with my flavors stored in a box. Now I find myself mixing up something new almost every day.
So, I was thinking about where DIY in general might go in the future and thought I'd like to see:

Those monthly juice subscription companies offer a DIY subscription where they send out 4-5 small (5ml) sample flavors along with a couple of recipes using them. This would help new DIYers get some stock built up as well as introduce them to new flavors. (wouldn't help me though with my almost 200 different flavors)

I would love to see a show like Cupcake Wars or Iron Chef where the contestants are either given 4-5 flavors and they need to make something awesome, or they have a full selection of flavors and have to clone X ejuice or replicate X dessert. This would be awesome b/c of course they'd have to give out the recipe of what they made for all of us to use :)
What are your thoughts? Where do you see DIY going in the next year?
Diy parties. Someone shows up at your house (or vape shop hosts) with a ton of flavors, VG, pg, and nic. Then they give a beginners lesson in diy, hand out some recipe suggestions and helps everyone mix. People could make custom recipes with the guidance of the host. Then you sell them supplies. MLMFTW
So here's an idea I've been tossing around in my head.. Mixing 'groups.'
It's like a workshop for getting better at creating. Like a writer's workshop or a band camp.
I personally think it could really improve both the quantity and quality of recipes coming out of the community, and on top of that the members themselves will build up their flavor pantry.
- /r/DIY_eJuice members split ourselves up into groups of 5.
- Each person comes up with a recipe they have been working on, or a flavor profile they want to create.
- Recipes or ideas are shared with the group.
- Everyone in the group buys the necessary ingredients for the 5 recipes.
- Over the month everyone mixes, steeps, and taste tests all of the mixes.
- As a group, discuss feedback/suggestions/improvements over hangouts or chat.
I think buying 5 recipes worth of ingredients, and mixing/steeping/trying 5 juices per month is doable. If the members wanted to, they could even group buy the flavors to save some scratch.
It could be a monthly rotation where next month we either work with different people... or if the groups become permanent that's cool too.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any DIY comps yet. Mix some juice, send it in, blind taste test by vapers with good palates, juices are rated and the top juices/mixers are given medals/prizes.
"Taste is subjective" and all but it works for homebrew , BBQ etc.

I love the idea for the challenge show. This could come sooner rather than later via a youtube format. Or maye even an event at conventions!
Like others have mentioned, I think mixing parties/workshops could be very successful. I think workshops paired with a good DIY supply section would be a home-run for a B&M.
Something else I was thinking about is "recipe kits". They do this with homebrew. You pick a style of beer, order the kit, and you get everything you need along with instructions. You could set up a shop where you choose the flavor, enter specifics like pg/vg ratio, nic strength, and number of/size of batches. Then you are sent a kit with everything you need along with instructions customized to the variables you chose. I think this would make DIY much more approachable for new people. Just deciding on what flavors to order your first time can be a daunting task.
Damn you man, I got all excited thinking this was a clone recipe for Ahlusions Saturday Morning.
Great ideas though. The first clone on the TV show must be Saturday Morning!! Someone with disposable income and free time should do this now as a webcast. They could travel to the bigger cities and then have a mix off at the end with the (city) winners.
