My DIY juice are muted.
submitted almost 10 years ago by fmoree

Been making juice for about a week now, using mainly TFA and Capella flavors. I ordered my VG and PG from Wizard Labs. I'm making juice at 80vg/20pg no nic.

I've been going off of others recipes (sidebar links) and the flavors are muted. I let them steep for a few days, even did a heat bath, and a magnetic stirrer. I've tried a few shake and vapes and the same thing. I thought it might have been 'vapers tongue' but I had my gf try some and she says the same thing.

A few examples of some juices I've tried: TFA Juicy Peach 10% TFA Raspberry (Sweet) 5% TFA Cotton Candy 1% 80% VG 4% PG

TFA Strawberry Ripe 13.5% TFA Sour 3% Sweetener 1% 80% VG 2.6% PG

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Overflavoring individual concentrates and sour and sweetener can mute as well.

Strawberry ripe at 13.5% is no good.

Try cutting 50/50 with VG and retesting.

Seems so many threads popping up with this same problem and almost every one has 15%+ flavorings. I get downvoted for suggesting cutting in half every time too. It's rare I top 8% total these days and have loads of flavor with maxVG to boot. So up vote for suggesting that!

Isn't that info in the sidebar too? Or maybe I've just read too many of these posts and I now think it is there because it seems so common...

Yeah I'm the same. Usually 7 or 8% max (except for one which has 10%) or even mix Strawberry with Ripe at a 4:3 ratio. Also, Strawberry doesn't play well with sweeteners.

Awesome, I will try that. Thank you.

Yup, Strawberry Ripe should be around 6%. And for my taste, 3% Sour is a bit overkill. As abdada said, cut everything in half and try again.

I'm thinking just making a post every morning titled "IF YOUR FLAVORS ARE MUTED, YOU ARE USING TOO MUCH FLAVOR" , since it seems most people are using apps that don't show the sidebar.

I even posted one of these "Where's the flavor" posts myself when I started out.

Yeah I read around, searched for a few days, tried different things. So thought i would just ask.

Well, just for the record, someone posted the same question 2 hours before you did, and it's still on the front page. And I think 3 did yesterday.

There are too many lazy people not taking the time to read the sidebar. I'm glad you asked because some of our best contributors here responded kindly to you. That speaks to their character. Kudos for not being a prick to this person. Most questions I have about making eliquid, I've found answers by just using the search feature.

I have also heard from a few shops that they let everything steep for 3 weeks before they sell it. I have watched my last batch transform over the last two weeks in terms of color and flavor. Good luck :)

Thanks, I will try having it sit longer with the advice from the other comments.

Also make sure they are not exposed too much light, I keep mine in the back of a cupboard while they steep.

Food for thought:

A lot of people are used to juice that is super overflavored / oversweetened. I rarely put more than 5% in total in any mix I make. I cut mine 50/50 so your mileage may vary if you add more VG.
