To me, with my mix, GCD is unvapeably harsh, a chemical throat hit of epic proportions. Reportedly, I'm not alone, and it means Bronuts is unavailable to us. So sad.
This comes down to either technique, an intolerance, or bad batches / quality control. It would be very interesting to see if we could gather some data on which it is, at least in some cases.
I'd appreciate if whoever can would mix up a quick 10% of CGD, report where and when they got it, and what the experience is like. Those of you who would like to, I'm willing to trade samples over PM to see if it's me, or my batch.
I'm testing it at 3mg/ml nicotine at 70/30 VG/PG, but I'd be happy to do a 0 if that's the best baseline for us to use. My CGD was from Wizard Labs, ordered September 13 and mailed September 16. The 10% I am reporting on was mixed fresh this morning. I vape on a single parallel coil derringer .04 ohm at 25 watts, airway full open.
My report: From 1 inch away, the smell is amazing butter and chocolate, and some of that interesting pastry dough-ey-ness.
A super light pull (1/10 sec) gives me a light sense of chocolate liqueur.
Another pull of a half second, the pastry comes in and I get some a warm, delicious buttery buildup and ... ugh. That's wrong. Something just went wrong at the end, sharp and biting at the base of my sinuses.
A one second pull begins with delightful chocolate amazement, but just as I stop the inhale, my throat clamps down - astringency and sharpness force my throat to tighten. My tongue has a slight burn, and I choke a bit, as my nose starts to run.
If I venture another 1 second pull after the first, all pretense of delight is gone, as my throat seizes and I cough several times, needing to go find a tissue and a lot of water to recover.
Please join in, I think this would be an interesting experiment in quality control and tolerance / reaction.
EDIT: 3 hours in, 8 respondents so far. Only one positive.
EDIT: After repeated bavarian cream (TFA) suggestions, I gave it a shot (10% GCD, 2% BC), and it takes a lot of the edge off! It's still ripping up my throat, but it's not threatening to choke me out anymore - and it tastes awesome.
**Ordered 5x 13ml GCD Lot# 9500 from Bull City on 9/17 (bigger sizes out of stock)...
Batch #1 was 10ml of original Bronuts @ 80/20 3mg: harsh as hell, burned my throat, made me cough, mouth felt 'tingly' for lack of a better term.
Batch #2 was 10ml of Bronuts @ 80/20 3mg but with GCD 5%, added TFA Bavarian Cream 2%: still burning feeling in throat, kept from coughing though. TFA BC definitely smoothed it out a little, but still a lost cause.
**Ordered 30ml GCD from Gremlin on 9/26...
Batch #1 - same mix as #1 above: Night and friggin' Day! No throat burn, but feel like a little steep would make it even better. Chocolate tastes much better (for what it is, really), and now that my throat isn't being assaulted, I can taste how the remaining flavors mesh rather well.
Batch #2 - same mix as #2 above: Good grief is this tasty! Again, I'm sure that a steep would help to bring the flavor out a little more in the 80vg, but it is silky smooth and has a richer, thicker mouth-feel to it. I am going to have a tank dedicated to this one for a while!
All were tested on separate Kanger vertical .5 OCCs (for more consistency than my own wraps/wicking), @ 35, 37, 40, 43 watts each (yes, I suffered through the first two batches while testing).
Final answer: Bronuts is a pretty great, simple mix (variant or otherwise), GCD IS in fact a really friggin' inconsistent flavor - but when you have a good batch it is definitely worth it. Also, I absolutely love that Gremlin is now a DIY source and will be receiving much more of my business (and not just due to the GCD).
i ordered my cgd from wizard labs around the same time as you and had the same problem--it was really harsh and -almost- unvapeable. /u/enyawreklaw suggested that i ask them for a replacement. so i did and i just received it yesterday. MUCH better, not harsh at all.
tl;dr tell wizard labs your batch was harsh and request a replacement. they'll send one to you for free.
That's a great suggestion, and I've just sent them a contact message. Up until now, I thought it was me, so I've not considered this route.
I ordered from wizard right around the same time you did. Myself and the few friends I mixed it up for have all complained it's too harsh. It smells awesome but it just scratches my throat the whole way down and ends up in a coughing fit.
Tried mixing at lower percentages but with same outcome.
Running on sigelei 150, twisted messes Rda wide open with dual 28g/2 n80 Clapton 38g n80 .02 ohms at 70 watts
I purchased CGD on September 5th from DIY E-juice(BC, Canada.) I mixed up Bronuts and found it vaped like someone replaced the flour of the donut with sawdust. Just an awful funk. I mixed up CGD at 5% and it has the same flavour. Even after a two-week steep both flavours are still 'off.' I just tried the 5% CGD in my RDA and it is still nasty. I hope this info helps your experiment...
10% seems like a lot. Is it as bad for longer inhales when you mix it at 5%? Mine tastes fine btw
I'm working off of what I could find for single flavor recommendations, but I'll try 5%. Bronuts has it at 7%, and definitely brought on the same reaction, which is what sparked this experiment in the first place.
After a cup of coffee, teardown and clean, new wick and running through some unflavored 3% 70/30 later, I mixed that same unflavored with my 10% to get to 5%.
At 5%, I get a similar reaction beginning on the second 1s vape, but the GCD taste is almost completely overwhelmed by VG sweetness. Still coughing, still rough, but very little flavor. A bit of biscuit and chocolate on the exhale, before the trouble starts.
I'm where you are. The first hit or two is pretty good and u get a massive amount of harshness after. It seems the more I drip or the longer I leave it on my wicks the worse it gets.
I'm honestly not sure how anybody can vape this on a bigger setup, maybe it's good in a ego and pro tank?
I'm running it on a sigelei 150 and a twisted messes rda. Dual 10 wrap 24g on 3mm. 50 watts
I've ordered it twice, once from RTS Vapes, and it turned out to be a batch from early January. Very harsh. Second time I ordered it directly from Capella, it was a new batch (less than one month) and it tasted slightly harsh.
PM me if you want two samples of completely different batches.
I just received some CAP Chocolate Glazed Donut from Eliquid Mart last week. I mixed up the Bronuts recipe just like the original with the exception of adding FA Vienna Cream at 1.5% and TFA Whipped Cream at 2%. I've let it steep for a week and there is no harsh throat hit at all.
I just made 60ml of bronuts a few minutes ago, and after testing it, it isn't spectacular or anything while fresh, but not harsh at all. This was from a bottle of CAP CGD purchased in February from Bull City. First time I've used it. I also have a bottle from Wizard Labs I bought a few weeks ago, but haven't used that yet. We'll see if this is a flavor I enjoy after it sits for a while.
Ok I've been vaping this since I made it a few hours ago, and its not great, but it is in no way harsh. So i doubt the "old product" hypothesis. My CGD is 8 months old at least. I'm curious to try it with the bottle I just bought though.
Vaping on a subtank plus at 0.5 ohm at 30 watts. Kinda weird chocolate, sweet, cloying. I think it needs to steep a while, won't try again for a week at least.
Ordered the Bronuts kit from Gremlin on Wednesday (9/30) and got it Friday. Whipped up Bronuts last night and let it sit overnight. Mixed at 30/70 3mg using Carolina Extracts nic vaping on a single fused clapton at 0.27 ohms and 50w. First couple pulls had a noticeable throat hit but nothing extreme. After vaping it dry and re dripping a few times it's perfectly smooth and vapeable.
I made a couple of batches of Bronuts a few weeks ago, and I just didn't like it. At first I thought it was the INW Biscuit that was killing it, it had a very harsh, pungent taste. I tasted a drop of the Biscuit and it was spicy so I thought I was sent Spicy Biscuit by mistake, so I bought another bottle...same result. It has to be the CGD. It's harsh, there's almost zero chocolate flavor at 7%, and tastes quite like stale dough. I bought it from Wizard Labs on 8/30.
