My first original recipe - Dragon's Blood
submitted almost 10 years ago by Abandoned_Ballbag

So this has been in the works for a couple of weeks, going through several iterations, and just now i added what i hope to be the final ingredient/tweak. Tasting good, but may be tweaked more yet. It is a kiwi/strawberry vape, with a touch of sour fruit.

#The ~~(hopefully)~~ Definately finished recipe:

  • TPA Strawberry: 5%
  • TPA Dragonfruit: 2%
  • FA Kiwi: 7%
  • FA Fuji Apple: 2%
  • FA Mad Fruit: 1%
  • TPA Greek Yogurt 1%

Mixed at max VG, and shaked and vaped. Liking it so far, if anyone has any feedback, that would be awesome! :) For anyone interested, the previous iterations are below.

EDIT: Adjusted percentages and added 1% TPA Greek Yogurt to add a tart, tangy note to the Apple and Kiwi

#V1

  • FA Kiwi: 5%
  • TPA Strawberry: 5%
  • TPA Dragonfruit: 5%

So with no previous experience mixing the ideas i have in my head, i set off for a kiwi vape. Obviously i needed kiwi, and after testing a few different flavours i decided FA is by far the best for the flavour i was looking for, if not a little bland by itself. Enter strawberry, and dragonfruit to bind the mix and add some depth. I set a baseline of 5% each to see where to go.

#V2

  • FA Kiwi: 7%
  • TPA Strawberry: 6%
  • TPA Dragonfruit: 2%

Straight off vaping the V1, the dragonfuit was overpowering to the point of tasting synthetic...so that came down. The kiwi was too subtle, so that came up. I wanted some more sweetness, so the strawberry came up a touch too. (Keeping my end mix at 15% i can tweak the percentages but stay consistent)

#V3

  • FA Kiwi: 9%
  • TPA Strawberry: 4%
  • TPA Dragonfruit: 2%

V3 consisted of me trying to bump up the kiwi. It didn't work. It added very little more to the kiwi flavour, but started acting as an astringent. Vapers tongue, anyone?

#V4

  • FA Kiwi: 6%
  • TPA Strawberry: 4%
  • TPA Dragonfruit: 2%
  • FA Fuji Apple: 3%

V2 was still missing something. It felt too plain, and not sweet enough, so i tried out some fuji apple. It seemed to fit the bill.

#V5

  • FA Kiwi: 6%
  • TPA Strawberry: 4%
  • TPA Dragonfruit: 2%
  • FA Fuji Apple: 2%
  • FA Mad Fruit: 2%

V5 was the closest i had gotten yet. I wanted more kick to the sweetness, and a sour note to compliment the kiwi. Mad fruit seemed to have these qualities from what i had read, so i ordered some up and mixed up V5.

#V6 (Final Mix)

  • FA Kiwi: 6.8%
  • TPA Strawberry: 4.5%
  • TPA Dragonfruit: 2.3%
  • FA Fuji Apple: 3.2%
  • FA Mad Fruit: 1%

The Mad fruit was overpowering the mix completely at 2%, so that got halfed, and may be reduced slightly still yet, i'm not sure. The rest of the mix was spot on i felt, but not quite strong enough. I bumped the flavour percentages up a touch, keeping the same ratio (roughly). So yeah, here she is, in her (hopefully) finished state! Hope you enjoy.

I love the format and the fact that you posted all your versions with notes. This is a very helpful post to anyone trying to learn other people's processes when making a new recipe.

One of juice lines at our shop sells a strawberry sour belt flavor called WTF (company: OMG) and it's our top seller. They use the TFA strawberry / FA kiwi combo (not sure what else, as I can't vape TFA strawberry so I can't clone it). It's such a powerful combo though, and to those wondering why the % is so high, FA kiwi is one of FA's more weak flavors and I'm not surprised at all by the % in this recipe. The recipe itself looks great. Nice job.

Why can't you vape it? Just preference?

It gives me a weird coughing fit. Not from any kind of throat hit. I've seen it mentioned before by others. It's like a sudden urge to cough. Couple other flavors do it, I'm assuming it's a sensitivity to one of the molecules.

Huh.... i get this now and then, attributed it to vaping outside when it's cold. Never thought about a sensitivity to a flavouring.... i'll keep my eye on it.

Could be an allergy. Certain grape flavorants make my throat itch for example.

Looked up that juice, now i want to try it! There is a site that sells it in the UK, but the postage is a little steep. May order with some other juices when i get some spare cash.

It's definitely worth a try. We've been around for over 2 years and it's STILL our best seller.

Holy shit, almost 7% FA kiwi? That's seems really excessive. And I'm sorry but I can't see that high % of kiwi steeping well. May taste great now, but I doubt it will stand up to time. I'd suggest trying out TFA kiwi double in place of FA, since it appears you want the kiwi to be the front of this recipe. Using kiwi double at the same % as you're using FA kiwi will make it stand out, and it will also steep really well.

Serious question, can you taste anything besides the fuji and kiwi? Those two flavors are both really powerful in mixes, and I have difficulty tasting anything besides them in any mix.

Yeah, i find the FA Kiwi to be extremely accurate, but very mild :/ I know plenty of people will use it around the 2-4% mark, but i just can't taste it at all that low.

And yeah, seriously, i can taste everything bar the dragonfruit in this mix. But indeed, time will tell after a long steep. ( I have mixed it max VG, so flavouring could come down a tad in a 70/30 mix )

I have used TPA Kiwi in the past, and found it very flavourless compared with the FA. I'm assuming the double is just a stronger version?

Yeah kiwi double is very flavorful.

I'm gonna have to try it! Thanks :)

Edit: Bought a 100ml bottle, as it's only 3x the price of a 10ml bottle for me.

I have the same reaction to Fuji. <%1 always works well for me mixed with other flavors though.

You are calling it Dragons Blood?

Yeah, i was originally going to colour the juice for the shits and giggles, but decided not to. Not really much point in vaping chemicals you don't have to i guess.

Aww yes! This is my type of flavor! I love the format here too. I have all of these Gravois except mad fruit. Hmm. I have a similar vape with Italian lemon sicily. I'll give that a shot.

The mad fruit is just there to give it that tiny boost of sweet and sour, citrus could work.

Sounds good! I'll let you know how some lemon does!

17.8%? Yikes. Try a batch of all flavoring halved. Might be more flavorful.

I've tried it at 10%, 15% and 20%. Found 18% to be about right for me. This could easily change after a steep. Needlessly to say, it will be tinkered with yet some, i'm sure!
