Cap chocolate glazed donut smells and tastes like play doh
submitted almost 10 years ago by PM_YR_MOOSE_KNUCKLE

I made a batch of bronuts 10 days ago. It smelled and tasted like play doh after a shake and vape, and still does. I've seen a couple other comments about a play doh smell, but not many. Is this a bad batch or just a personal sensitivity thing? My wife (non-vaper) thought it smelled great - I think it reeks of play doh.

I made Bronuts as well and didn't like it one bit. Different strokes.

As did I. Chances are you're just one of the people that don't like the flavor. I feel your disappointment though, the hype had me ready for Bronuts, then I vaped it and it was just a cheap chocolate frosting flavor for me.

I'm beginning to think CAP CGD is one of the most inconsistent flavorings available. I'm constantly emailed with questions like "why is one bottle harsh and one bottle not" "why is my CGD lighter than others" "why does my recipe taste more chocolatey yet my friends recipe more doughy". I think it has to do with how old the ingredient is when sold. CGD I don't think was a very popular flavoring until BRONUTS came out and I think vendors, after they got rid of their new stock, started selling older stock. I recently got mine from CAP and haven't tasted any issues. But I received one from another vendor before this where it was very harsh.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I had been working on a cgd of my own before bronuts and then ran out. It had always seemed a bit harsh, but not terribly.

I snagged a 4oz from capella and at this point I'm calling it unvapeable. It absolutely destroys my throat. 0 nic, single flavor, mixed..doesn't matter, my throat burns after every inhale.

My bronuts was incredibly harsh. I tried out adding different flavors to smooth it out, and tfa Bavarian cream dx at 2% worked perfectly for me. I really could barely enjoy it because of the throat hit and harshness, but I've been through about 100 mls now happily with that change.

Yeah that Bav Cream addition was great. Also subbing out out Joy for CAP Butter cream at 1% is awesome as well. Some people don't like Joy and get a flat beer taste, so I found Butter Cream to be a great sub. It just doesn't make the chocolate as sweet as joy does.

I ordered 3 13 ml bottles straight from cap, and the first two I've opened have been awful. I made single flavor batches of each of the ingredients, and determined that it was the cgd that was harsh.

I couldn't stand the harshness either, actually made me cough...also had a slightly (numbing?) tingling mouth-feel. My Gremlin order will be here tomorrow, hopefully with better CGD - will update then.

Soo did you get that new bottle of cgd?

Fuck you're destroying my bronuts dreams, I'm in Europe and planning on ordering from CAP and if it goes wrong I'll end up with a big bottle of unusable shit :/

But it's probably a low chance to get a bad batch, you'd figure people without problems most likely won't even comment on it.

The amount of people that don't have issues seem to outnumber these that do. Maybe a few of us got old stock, who knows?

I did feel like I was taking crazy pills for a bit because I couldn't understand how people could vape it being as harsh as it was for me. I'm still willing to order another 30ml of cgd though.

At this point, I'd imagine that there's not a whole lot of the "harsh stock" for sale anywhere. You'll probably be fine.

You definitely use chocolate donut and not plain glazed donut?

Definitely.

It smells like a bit of magic shell drizzled over play doh.

Personally thats how it has always tasted to me. Maybe the two different bottles from two vendors about 6 months apart had the same issue, but I think it's a flavor thats just not for me.

Was gonna ask the same, regular glazed doughnut is pure play doh flavour to me, never noticed it with choc glazed doughnut before though.

Me neither. I have a bottle I am going to drip on aroma strips to see if I can seek it out.

I made it a few times, I initially thought I had a bunk batch of Biscuit that was ruining it (it wasn't). I've learned that I hate CGD, it is VERY playdoughy for me too.

Bronuts/CAP CGD tastes like some sort of salsa to me. My tastebuds are either crazy, or it is an inconsistent flavoring like Wayne suggested. Super bummed I didn't love it like the majority of his mixes.

I get a small play-doh taste from it in Bronuts... Try adding like 2-3% bavarian cream or vanilla custard. It smoothed out the Choc glazed donut and also gave it more of a boston creme taste.

I tried a batch with bavarian cream, too. Not quite as potent, but still strong play doh.

Might seem silly but..Did you add sweetener?

Nope. Here's my chart:

Ingredient|Target|mL|Grams :--|:--|:--|:-- PG|30%|6.08|6.31 VG|70%|16.07|20.25 Nic (48mg/ml)|8mg/mL|5|6.27 Chocolate Glazed Donut|7%|2.1|2.18 Joy|.75%|.22|.23 Yellow Cake|1%|.3|.31 Biscuit|.75|.22|.23

EM or sweetener might help to cut that play-doh taste. Certain flavorings can be bitter before any sweetener is added.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

Same here. I had this vague recollection of a waxy creme filled American brand (Europe here) doughnut or some other bakery item I ate at some point of my life, and I guess some people over the pond might be slighty more acclimated to the taste sensation somehow? Idk. My SO though it was OK so go figure.

I also smell the play-doh in Joy.

I wanted to like bronuts. I can't. It's just straight up play-doh.

I'm so glad to hear other people saying this about Bronuts and harshness. I can't vape it, and I thought I was the only one.

Taste is fantastic, with something vicious and unpleasant in the middle, and I coughed through the entire first 15ml. I parked it in my steep box and haven't looked at in a week.

I don't get play doh, but I do get a buttery flavor, which tells me the DA/AP is strong with this one. I don't, however, get much chocolate at all.

I don't get play doh either. And I remember eating it a hundred years ago. Seems like it was salty back then.

I got the same taste and smell. The biscuit also brought out this nasty plastic taste and smell to me. This was the first time I used biscuit and I found out I cannot stand the stuff.

Just mixed my first batch of bronuts so it's still shake and vape territory. But no play d'oh (I'll keep that autocorrect lol) taste. Just tasty tasty bronuts.

I get the hype. It's a remarkable flavor in that there's nothing really special about the flavor at first glance. It's a chocolate glazed doughnut, delicious. But just how well these flavors all work together to make it seem like something so innocuous yet so delicious is amazing.

I do too, I loved it, I made 90 mls 2 weeks ago. It's half gone.

I lowered both Joy and Biscuit. I used half a percent each. IDK if that would help.
