Going down the rabbit hole...
submitted about 10 years ago by UnclBuckFrugivore

Hey there ladies and gents.

I've been into vaping on and off for a few years now, but I haven't ever bought decent equipment. Over labor day I took advantage of a dual sale and discount code and got a pretty decent setup for a great price. (iTaste MVP 3.0 and a Kanger Subtank Plus for about 60 bucks shipped)

Well I love my new setup, but I realized that I'm gonna go through a lot more liquid now that I enjoy it a lot more, and can produce so much more vapor. I'm not a huge fan of my local vape shop (shop is great, customer base makes me want to punch a giraffe), so I started looking into DIY.

Long hours of research made short, I put about 100 bucks into flavoring and equipment last night after reading a ton of info on here. I just want to thank you guys for how much help this sub provides. I had every question I could think of answered on the sidebar, with a few answered in searches.

Thanks for all the work everyone has put into this! It makes this much more viable for us new people.

Thank you for doing your homework and not expecting others to do it for you. Welcome aboard!

Very Good. PG = Pretty Good. We've been over this before, please pay attention.

Enjoy your stay. You may want to consider getting an rda to test new flavors as using a tank is a little prohibitive. You'll get a little better flavor from the rda but it's just easier to test new flavors.

I was thinking about that. Any recommendations on a cheaper one that will function well?

I've had two different versions of the mutation x and I love them (v1 and v3). Kinda cheap too, 25 to 35ish depending on where you get it. V4 has bottom air flow and may be prone to more leaks if you overdrip so I'd stay away from it for now. Plume veil has been good to me as well. I prefer four post designs as they are easier for me to build dual coils on. If you're not jazzed up about the idea of getting kanthal and building your own coils many online vendors sell pre-made coils. Something you may want to consider. If you don't mind building your own, YouTube has a ton of coil building tutorials and you should be able to Google around for whatever other info you need.

But rdas are basically the same flavor wise (great). People who compare flavor from rda to rda are splitting hairs, basically any will be giving you better flavor than a tank. Some do give better flavor but a large portion of that comes down to the airflow. In general a tighter air flow means a warmer more flavorful vape. So just get something that fits your budget.

Check out eciggity (discount code "Reddit10" no quotes) and origin vape (discount code "Redditready" no quotes) as a starting point. I have no affiliation with those sites other than knowing they're good places to shop. Someone posted below with a fasttech link, nothing wrong with them other than they take like a month for you to get your stuff. It's from China.

Any other questions feel free to ask!

I'm on board. mutation x, v3 is the shit. cheap on amazon or ebay, got my last 1(1 of 3) for $13. flavorful like a mofo, and i dint like the v4. I'm personally not a fan of crazy airflow.

Picked one up and threw in the included coils until my kanthal shows up. Holy balls I now understand the love of RDA's.

I really like the Velocity rda. Plenty of space to build, lots of airflow options, awesome vertical post design, and clones are cheap. $9 from China or $20 from the US.

People like derringer attys a lot for testing because you can get them stupid cheap, they're small (easily buildable by newcomers as it works great as a single coil), and the flavor is great. There's a ton of attys nowadays though that will get the job done. Just don't get one with huge air holes, adjustable airflow is a must.

Was ready to be the one to post the obligatory read the sidebar/search comment. I found all my answers from doing both as well. This is the best vaping subreddit hands down. It's the only one I visit now. Welcome to the family homie.

Yeah I look through /r/electronic_cigarette occasionally, but there seems to be a lot of asshattery going on over there. It's like an electronic version of going to my local brick-and-mortar.

Yes. Yes it is. Exactly. Thank you for putting into words why it bugs me there.

We need high end vape lounges with restricted membership to people that aren't asshats. That would be nice.

Thats awesome! I just got a mvp 3.0 two weeks ago and its great, but i didnt get a sweet deal. Kind of a trade up from a defective box i bought a week before. But thats cool, glad you like it!

Just started mixing this past week too. Win some, lose some. Good luck!

Yeah I love my MVP so far. The battery is great, and I love the ease of use with it. Nothing is crazy difficult to do with it so far.

I'm planning to follow recipes to start until I learn more about everything that I'm buying.

Once I feel comfortable, I hope to create some great recipes to share. I'm a self-acclaimed snobby armchair mixologist when it comes to booze. I've come up with some cool drinks that friends and party-goers seem to enjoy, so I can't wait to start getting crazy with juice.

Thanks!

Yeah man thats cool, mine could go three days on a charge no problem. I was using logics for a while and those were a pain in that department.

Yeah be careful when you start. I just got a bunch of flavors in, i went crazy the first day, with skme straight up and some mixed. Some of the flavors are way stronger than the rest. And some i just dont like. I put a tiny bit of tobacco in each of a few, but i didnt like that flavor, now i have a few bottle of unvapable juice i have to toss. Lol. I dunno. Dont get too eager and hopefully you dont have to toss as much as me. i'm just kind of tasting them by themselves now. and trying to figure out the right pg/vg for each flavor before i ruin more stuff. made a few solid ones so far. fixed a few juices i bought also, so i guess ive won more than lost. just that tobacco flavor killed me, and i got an almond amaretto, i did 2.5% instead of 3, and it it way too strong lol. have to get regular almond to cut it back a little, but my place has been out of stock on that.
