Here I am, making ejuice - buying it every once in a while, vaping for almost two years now. I've gone through bouts of vapors tongue, but nothing super serious until about 8 months ago.
I can tell you for the most part, with some exceptions, I have not tasted ejuice for around 8 months. Someone tells me "try this it's bomb blah blah blah" new cotton, try their vape, whatever I taste nothing.
I make my own juices and every once in a while I'll be able to taste them, but it's rare. I'll try commercial juice and taste nothing - with a few exceptions.
I've tried the smelling coffee, I've tried chewing on ginger, I've tried water with a little lime (Oh god the heart burn), and I've tried drinking a ton of water. Which, by the way, I already drink a ton. I've probably tried other things that I can't think of off the top of my head as well.
Seeing the hype of bronuts, I hastily ordered all the ingredients, and am going to get my joy on Friday. I ordered a scale and bottles and all the equipment to mix by weight because I've hated mixing thus far because it takes so damn long. I decided I actually wanted to taste bronuts, so I did something not suggested here yet: I vaped unflavored ejuice.
It's been two weeks now since I've vaped juice with any flavoring, and I am cleaning up my juice station and about to clean out some bottles that I reuse. I open one and notice this is full. What was it? A full bottle of Trickz! That's my favorite! I grab my dripper, re wick, and get super pumped. Drip and break in the cotton without vaping it yet. Then I take a deep pull with so much excitement.
Nothing.
I taste nothing, still. There is literally no difference from me vaping trickz than vaping unflavored. Not the sugary milk I remember with the hint of lemon, blueberry, and strawberry. Just nothing.
The only thing I have not tried is /u/enyawreklaw's suggestion of not vaping for weeks - which seems daunting. I could do a day or two, but not a week or two. I need some help. Has anyone gone through this? Am I just an anomaly?
TL;DR Vapors tongue, can't fix it, halp
**Edit from the next morning on the toilet: You guys are awesome. Writing, posting, and reading your suggestions also helps me look at what's causing more critically. I will try everything in here, but even though I take allergy medicine every day, I still have a stuffy nose. I'm going to try to get that cleared up first. Then maybe go to the dentist and tell that dude to clean the fuck out of my mouth cuz she's a dirty one.
After that, if I can't taste, I will move onto your shit. Will post updates. I love you guys, you're so troll and fucking hilarious. You may have given a man his taste and love of vaping back :')**
Yep. Based on my singular experience, you're fucking weird.
PS - I'm sorry man. That sucks. I have an injured sense of smell from doing industrial work and it definitely screws up my palette. DIY has really helped, not hurt, both my sense of smell and taste though.
PPS - No, you cannot have a serious conversation and vaper's tongue at the same time. No one takes you seriously whilst having the vaper's tongue. Sorry.
Here's what works for me:
- Drip hot sauce on tongue
- Spit out and rinse
- Drip lemon juice
- Spit out and rinse
After like 2 or 3 times, the flavor comes back
What kind of hot sauce? Cholula? Sriracha? Louisiana? Ghost pepper! Comon man!
Thank you, I'll try this.
Yes, you can have vaper's tongue &&& have a serious conversation at the same time.
something gross, but worth trying, is called "oil pulling" you simply take about a tablespoon of either olive oil or coconut oil, and swish it around like mouthwash for 10-20 minuets, the taste and consistency is terrible, but afterwards your whole mouth will be healthier and the oil will pull some of the dead cells deep from out of your tongue, ive been doing it every other night and I can taste a notable difference with the flavor of my centerfold jinx before and after doing so
I'm walking around swishing oil in my mouth for 20 minutes?
I've done this before as well - I'll give it a shot for vapors tongue though.
Health benefits are complete bs tho.
Coconut oil is a lot more tolerable than anything else for me. I do it sometimes. Works okay I guess. What works best for me is chewing coffee beans. I started doing that in the grocery store. Grab a handful of beans from the thing where you fill the bag yourself and munch while I shop. I will still occasionally fill a tiny bag to munch on my way to work. I do this because it's tasty to me, I love all things coffee.
But I've never had vapers tongue for more than a day or so. Maybe give that a shot?
Hey bro, did you ever cure your vaper's tongue? I'm battling it now and wanted to see if anything worked.
Just don't inhale by accident. You'll forget any concerns you've ever had about popcorn lung after your third bout with recurring lipid pneumonia.
Here's what helped me:
-
Drink warm black coffee and swish it around in your mouth for as long as you can. Smell what's left in the cup while doing this.
-
Brush your teeth, floss, AND mouthwash a shit tonne. For at least 10-20 minutes. Depends on how bad you wanna taste ejuice again I guess.
-
Menthol. I used a vick's vaporub stick in my nostrils, as well as some vaporub under my nose.
From what I understand, vaper's tongue is only partially from your tastebuds, but majorly from your nose.
Don't know what to tell you.... Vaping unflavored always works for me.
Out of curiosity do you have issues tasting other stuff or is it only e-juice that you can't taste.
It happened to me for the new year week, I got a huge cold so I take a lot of medicines (four times the recipe dosis, maybe more) trying to enjoy the new year night, take some energy drinks too. Well it didn't work and I was numb and totally stupid that night. Next morning I lost my taste sense completely, not even hot spicy flavor (I tried).
Since then every time I take medicine or energy drinks I leave my vape gear in home because I got nothing from them. Maybe you are eating, drinking, taking something that make your taste be stupid as mine. Sorry for my poor English.
How's your sense of smell? Is your nose clogged all the time? Artificial flavors tend to taste muted if you cover your nose (or something is interfering with your sense of smell)
Good point, I have allergies year round and though my nose isn't completely clogged, its certainly gunked up.
Will buy some flonaise.
AFRIN bro. Flonase works but nothing hits the spot like afrin. My girlfriend has a cat that I am allergic to and sudafed+afrin gets my sinuses smelling dim sum all the way in the fucking china from my shitty little house in maryland. I buy the generic topcare shit from wegmans.
trussss mi
Have you ever tried a sinus rinse kit? I recommend something like this
I used to have terrible bouts of vapers tongue, sometimes lasting a month or more. Once I started using a sinus rinse kit weekly I had less problems with vapers tongue.
I also recommend Arm&Hammer PeroxiCare toothpaste, it seems to work very well for me in staving off vapers tongue combined with a tongue brush and scraper.
I sort of hear you, I taste things, but not like i think they are supposed to taste. Generally I just accept it for the nicotine. Since it's my main goal, but I haven't been able to taste a lot of the differences in my juice other than the major notes. I know its different, but I don't get a great variation.
Drink seltzer with cranberry juice, brush your teeth, use mouthwash, start taking allergy meds if you have allergies, and try vaping flavors your not used to (ie if you never vape tobaccos or coffee and are a die hard fruit fan vape tobaccos and coffees and no fruits). If all that fails maybe you should talk to your doctor because this seems really bad if its that persistent.
Electrolytes (Pedialyte or Gatorade) to hydrate and refresh, and ginger stuffs like candies (Ting Ting Jahe are freakin' awesome) to cleanse and renew the palette/open sinuses and loosen mucus a little bit.
If you drink coffee it would probably help to stop that or switch to a light tea as well as coffee completely screws with the tastebuds for a few hours. Chai might be a great subsitute as well as the ingredients are very cleansing and invigorating, especially an herbal chai as the tannins present in some real tea can mess with tastebuds quite much.
I saw somebody mention oil pulling below and I actually think that's a fantastic idea. When I pull it pulls all the mucus from the upper mouth and entrances to the nostrils and really makes me feel clean and clear. I think I'll try it next time I have a case of vapers tongue.
