Well my last vape mail came in including everything I was in need of to make the fabled "Bronuts". I'm super stoked! Except....They sent me Chocolate Fudge Brownie instead :(. C'mon OSDIY, you should know better about the myth, the legend!! Funny thing is they circled that Berry Crunch was back-ordered too haha. I sent them an email and am awaiting a response. As you can see by the gift bag full of candy and other cool free shit, I expect them to be awesome and apologetic. I guess I'll have to mix up a batch of Bronies in the meantime....and cry myself to sleep...
As to not flood this place with bullshit bitching, here's a shitty V1 of a fruity-ass recipe I'm working on. Yeah, try it if you want.
Grape Fruits:
- TFA Grape Candy 8%
- TFA Ripe Strawberry 2%
- TFA Wild Blueberry 1%
- TFA Koolada 0.5%
- EM 10% Sol. 1%
It's a 70/30 mix. I wanted the grape to be prominent since I freaking love the grape flavor of this concentrate. Chose the blueberry to help compliment the deeper notes and the strawberry to bring out some of the sweeter notes. However, I might try regular TFA Strawberry next time. Might also up the Koolada, can't really notice it. An over-the-weekend steep has let the flavors mellow out and they play together kind of like the way 3rd graders know how to rough each other up. Aggressively bitter, yet frightened about the consequences. In other words, they kind of clash but it kind of works. I still think the Grape Candy is ganging up on the Ripe Strawberry and Wild Blueberry like the little fartknockers they are (everyone knows GC is a wanker anyway). Enjoy.
I want to know how the bronies comes out, that may actually be pretty good
I was thinking the same thing. If the recipe is good, the name is perfect!
Just an FYI, Koolada has no (good)taste. At very low levels, it heightens fruit flavors, a little higher adds coolness(without menthol), and higher will kill your throat and ruin your juice. I've ruined recipes with 2% Koolada before and won't go over 1 now, even in my most mentholated recipes. I actually haven't used it in a long while and don't miss it. I'd strongly discourage raising it much as it's probably not what's missing from your recipe. Try 1% menthol as that really helps fruit flavors taste more like fruit as well as add a very slight "fresh from the fridge" feel.
I agree with this -- if you can't get what you want with <1% Koolada, you need a more potent koolada-type additive than standard WS-3 or you need to supplement it with a touch of Menthol or a similar cooling agent.
Really? Maybe there's something I can't taste in Koolada or I've got a weak batch or something.
As a standalone at 2% I only get a very mild cooling and absolutely no flavour/aroma, just pure cooling. Adding some fruits to it seems to bring the coolness out more.
I did a quick random mix one day with some strawberries and watermelon and threw in 2% koolada - I couldn't put that juice down for a week. I've also used it at 4% and thought it was fine, but it did destroy coils at that level. These were vaped at around 50W in a Mutation X V3 with a single clapton.
I've got some FW Extreme Ice and CAP Menthol that I'm going to start playing with, so maybe that will help me pick up any off flavours in the Koolada.
That's what makes Koolada useful -- it has NO flavor. Koolada/WS-3 and that family of compounds are designed to trigger a cooling sensation in trigeminal nerves, but they're not intended to have any perceptible flavor. Otherwise, why not just use menthol, yknow?
Koolada is something you add to your mix because you want it to leave your mouth feeling cold when you inhale the next breath, mimicking the sensation of a cool drink or frozen dessert. Anyway, to be more clear, what I'm really getting at is that I don't see much improvement in efficacy from using Koolada at levels more than 1% or so, and I do notice muting -- granted, it took me months of regular DIY before I became sensitive enough and familiar enough with the flavorings and their interactions to recognize this kind of subtle muting/flavor interference, but it is definitely there.
Just a random thought, but your fruity-ass recipe seems like it might really benefit from a splash of Watermelon, if you're looking to make some tweaks. Best luck with your Bronies, and let us know how the substituted recipe works out. ECX did the same thing to me (Harvest Berry instead of Hazelnut), and they fixed me up right quick.
I'll definitely keep that in mind. I have so many fruity flavors collecting dust, including tfa watermelon
NOOOOOOOO! Not TFA Watermelon. CAP Sweet Watermelon.
I couldn't use TFA Watermelon at anything over 0.1% without it taking over.
I'm actually playing around with Chocolate Fudge Brownie at the moment, trying to get a decent 'gooey' brownie mix out of it. I'm on the first set of test batches but I'll be making a post about it once I've gotten somewhere with it (which may end up taking me forever...)
Damnit. Another grape I have to buy. Thanks for posting this. I'm a sucker for grape mixes.
Have you tried TFA Grape Juice? If so, how does it compare to Grape Candy?
I have not, however I've read that the grape juice tastes just like it's real life counterpart. Sweet but very tart. Grape candy tastes exactly like grape jolly ranchers. It's a spot on flavor if you like those grape candies.
